Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. oh gdi i post this and THEN i see the new post

well anyway

how about a memory loss game

where the characters are forcibly dragged into another world by two warring factions of dickheads who need cannon fodder

as soon as the characters arrive, the two factions each steal half of the characters' memories as leverage

then both factions try to get the characters on their sides with each promising to return a) the memories they've got, and b) the memories they'll pull from the cold dead hands of the other guys ... once they win, of course.

thus leaving the characters to decide whether they want to join the shitheads or the douchebags, knowing only their own names, basic personalities, and the gaping emptiness where their entire lives used to be

they'd get to earn back random memories through missions, foraging, killing enemy factioners, and so on. things could be adapted to suit characters' skill sets, no use in wasting resources

the war would be the main overarching plot but there would be handfuls of smaller events and possible plot twists along the way

does this appeal or are memory loss games passe

Re: GAME IDEAS

How do you plan on dealing with the fact that often war type games do fail?

Not quite sure why, but likely is the fact that it separates the playerbase and limits CR. When a game is small that can be a huge problem. Just tend to see those sorts of games fail quite often and with memory loss not being so popular you're already at a disadvantage.

The ones that have seemed to have worked best is to have the factions be optional to join or its not known which one characters joined right off. Another idea could be to only allow for joining one faction to start off with and once the game increases beyond a certain size people have the option of joining the other or even betraying the current one open up.

holy shit yes

i would need to make time for it, but yeah, i think i would. had a brief stint with the ecats group and DO like the memory loss, just couldn't keep up with their style of play. i am also a lover of conflict between characters (as opposed to only with npcs or straight-up villains) so this sounds right up my alley.

Reposting this to see if there's any interest. I know someone else did a similar RP a while ago, but from the sounds of things it never got off the ground.

Is there a good amount of interest in this? If I made this, what would you want to see in it, and what should I look out for?

If I did it, I'd probably want to talk to some other mods. I'm not very experienced in making games, and this one could be tricky.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2012-11-13 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Not-actually-anon has a lot of solid ideas for a Rune Factory (fantasy Harvest Moon) jamjar.

http://www.plurk.com/p/hncvd7

General summary of ideas: Characters come to a backwater corner of Norad on the demand of a illustrious and powerful monster of some sort, who wants them to develop a little rural community and in the process generate lots of earth/life/love energy to keep the land healthy. Game's atmosphere is largely slice-of-life with lots of player freedom and opportunities for creativity built into the setting, with events mostly environmental rather than character effects - much like Rune Factory itself. Player innovation and initiative encouraged; if all goes as planned, most setting additions will be player-character-driven, and the course of overarching plotlines will depend on player-character actions. Characters' original powers are restricted, but all characters have the ability to learn rune magic and may be able to gain Earthmate powers (plot willing).

Is there interest out there for something like this? Would people be interested in it as a memloss game, a non-memloss game, or somewhere in between?

A game where characters take missions to hunt monsters, explore wilderness areas, loot ruins, and dig for treasure. Sort of Dungeons & Dragons meets Monster Hunter meets Indiana Jones.

Is this even remotely workable without the mods having to keep an eye on or run everything? Or am I just dreaming here?

Nightside game idea?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've been bouncing around the idea of making a game set in Simon R. Green's Nightside.

For those not familiar with the series, the Nightside is a city within a city, supposedly in (or under) London, that's dark, decadent and very morally grey. It's always 3am, the moon is always full, and all the clubs, bars, and businesses are always hopping. Gods, demons, and Beings walk beside people from a thousand alternate timelines and universes, often in pursuit of every flavor of the forbidden. Everything is for sale and anything is possible. If nothing else the city itself is never, ever dull.

Details are very much still in the process of being hammered out, but I'm throwing this out to see if there's interest in the idea.

Also, on the hunt for people familiar with the Nightside who'd be willing to help mod.

[community profile] vaidatha is an exploration skill game in which characters are taken from their home world, stripped of their skills, and dumped in the middle of a ruined desert civilization. They have no supplies other than those on their person, no means of survival other than what they can find in their area, and no means of getting home — except for, perhaps, the glyphs.

As they explore and try to expand their resources, characters may stumble upon clues as to what befell the civilization that came before them, as well as mystical symbols that grant an entire skill upon contact. They come in a variety of types, and may bestow abilities never seen before on a character's home world. But whether one exists that will return them to their rightful worlds is yet to be seen...

Vaidatha is looking to acquire a modteam! If you're interested and think you have what it takes, the following positions are open:

Welcome Wagon

Event Mods

Ombudsmen

Administrative Mods

Night Circus?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-16 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't actually know if anyone's suggested this before, but I figured I should post this before I forget. Would anyone be interested in a game set in the Night Circus verse?

I'm thinking it would be an AU where players can either be performers or revuers. I'm up for any ideas at all, even if you have suggestions for a jamjar or some other type of game. Nothing's set in stone or anything. I don't even have a plot yet.

If this does attract enough attention, I'll also be needing some mods as I have no experience running a game at all.

SPACE TIME

(Anonymous) 2012-11-17 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm considering a game. Sort of a Star Trek/Macross/Gundam feel. Basic gist of the plot is that there's a colony ship/fleet looking for a habitable world. There's a mix of military and civilians, but by and large it's pretty relaxed. If the military population says 'jump', the civilians ask 'how high', but the military generally lets the civilians govern themselves except during emergencies. They 'farm' asteroids and dead planets for supplies, etc.

Still working on where the players come from, but they're all unconscious or in comas, some of them just sleeping while others are on heavy life support. The colonists have enough resources to spare, even if there's some irritation that their stores are being used on strangers in some corners. When a player apps in and is accepted, their character wakes up and is officially welcomed aboard. Their personal equipment is in a footlocker near them, if they had a mobile suit or a starship, it's being studied, repaired, or generally upkept in a spare vehicle bay.

Here's the thing. Space is dangerous. There's ion storms, rogue meteors, space pirates, hostile planets, space stations filled with killer robots, and an alien empire that would really like the colonists out of their territory. So, while they have plenty of supplies, both the military and the civilian populations are slowly, but steadily, dropping. So, since they can't really say how the characters got there (Unless they brought them there), the colonists ask/tell them to help them out, either by serving essential civilian roles or joining the military. Whatever.

We can do this slice of life or adventure. If we do it slice of life, there can be weird things as a result of Q-like beings toying with the ship, Trouble with Tribbles-style plots, medical emergencies, etc. If we go with adventure, we'll have alien attacks, pirates, maybe a revolt from citizens who are tired of being under the military's thumb, and astro bears.

What do you think? Worth working on? I could use some help with modding and putting things together, if people are interested.

Spooky School Jamjar anyone?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I've had this idea running around in my head for a while now. The basic premise is pretty boring and cliched : a horror jamjar set in an abandoned boarding school on an equally deserted island (I'm thinking somewhere like the Hebrides, cold and clammy and very very spooky.)

The game would be mostly player-directed, I think. There'd be events every couple of weeks, to keep things lively, but there'd be plenty of opportunity for player plots as well - in fact, they'd be actively encouraged.

So, is anyone interested in this kind of game? And if they are, what could we do to make it less typically jamjar-y?

Legend of the Five Rings Game

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Predominantly Political and Supernatural Intrigue with potential for battle scenarios set pre-Race for the Throne or during Celestial with long term plot potential to change events as the timeline folds over into Imperial.

This would be an OC only game, and all OC's would have to be built using the L5R rules set. still deciding between 3rd or 4th edition. While dice rolling won't be a focus, the RPG rules do help build a character to the setting and can make extended combat easier - it also gives a resolution format we can turn to when players can't agree on an outcome.

Because of the setting, panfandom is impossible without making nearly every character that gets sucked into the world a hunted criminal and it really helps if people are familiar with the setting, in any case.

would there be any interest on DW? I've helped run an L5R game before on forums, but I really like the journal set up for character accounts and comms.

But would anybody be interested in a game that does exactly the opposite?
That brings our muses into a historical time setting where even modern technology doesn't exist?

I'm interested in setting up a game based in the French Revolution, where characters can either choose to fight on a side, or even just face the realities of life in the eighteenth/early nineteenth century. Would anybody be interested?
