[D] How you like me now?

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Navigate:

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.
Go be cute and fun and fun and funny over here.

Youkai?

I was wondering if anyone would be even slightly interested in a Japanese supernatural themed game. Sort of like Kaidan meets Natsume's Book of Friends and everything in-between.

YES? I've dropped a comment in this thread now and then about wanting a game based around the Eastern Zodiac but a general youkai-themed game would be great.

+1

Totally interested.

If there's a non-jamjar AU option, yes.

Haven't decided which way to go exactly, two ideas were being considered though. One being AU with all the basic supernatural rules, the other being canon characters but not trapped in a small place. If canon there would be several open worlds and the small ability to return home, also no kidnapping.

Though logistics for either haven't been figured out quite yet.

I considered something like option #1 myself a while ago, but never got around to actually doing anything with it since another japanese fantasy AU (kaidanrpg) opened first. That one flopped quickly, but don't let it put you off - the worldbuilding/game info was really insufficient for a complicated historical-magical setting. I really liked the basic idea, though, so I'd love to see something similar with a little more meat to the premise.

this sounds really cool! i love youkai...

but i'm opposite to everyone else. i would rather it not be full au.
if you are thinking about it being more free than just kidnapping, it could be that characters discover areas where there is a weakening in some wall that separates the worlds etc and they can come and go as they please. you would have to give incentive for them to stay but who knows. personally, i think optional games never really work out cause what character that isn't already dead, post series, or from some slice-of-life series really stay in some unimportant area when they have universes to save? but this is just throwing out ideas

I was thinking along the lines of people get lost and sort of stuck in a general area, though not specifically trapped and not kidnapped. Just a situation where getting back home is really hard. Also, if one did get home (or to another place) they would find themselves more often wandering back. Just to break a bit away from "Oh no the big bad kidnapped me!" and "My world is gone forever and I have to get used to living here!" type scenarios. Though world travel from an OOC perspective would be restricted carefully as to not allow it to be common, probably tied to events or something. Or maybe just used to explain canon updates and dropped characters.

As for the AU thing, I really like the potential of both ideas and can't seem to really decide. Maybe if it were a combination, such as AU characters were allowed as long as they were game universe and potential for doubles in that context?

like Spirited Away?

Sort of, at least the general root idea. Pretty much all those stories of getting lost in another world, spirit world, faerie, type of deal. Once found it's hard to forget and hard to avoid.

It's interesting you bring up Spirited Away because my first thought upon seeing this thread was [community profile] hiddenbygods, except it died.

My only condition is that Inu-Yasha be incorporated somehow. Because how can you not.
