you forgot one of the most important things. writing about your partner's character.

i've rped with people who don't do this and who then complain about getting their threads dropped. they focus entirely on their own character, how they feel etc instead of switching some of that focus externally. it's important to do so, otherwise it can feel like you're smutting in isolation and using the other character as a kind of prop.

your character is in a smut scene. ideally they're reacting or acting in part because of another character. this character is a pretty important aspect to your character right now. your character's perceptions of that character are also important. that's going to be part of the drive behind their actions or reactions.

it also acts as a bit of ego stroking tbh. rpers love hearing about their own characters in other's writing. it's just a thing. in the case of smut threads, it can help keep interest alive.

jesus. tbh that's a shit tier reaction. it takes guts to admit to an eating disorder. my friend's mother has bulimia but she has never admitted it. i've seen the toll it takes on her though and i wish you had friends who were more understanding. you could at least trust to confide in them then.

but yeah, i'm sorry man. eating disorders are particularly bad for this for some reason. it's a hard blow to finally open up to someone about it just to have them reject the possibility.

sometimes people are just shitty friends, sometimes it's because they don't know how to approach it, or it's tinged with their own experiences. it doesn't make it any less awful to you, but it's made it easier for me personally to forgive folks i've needed to forgive. and to cut ties with those i don't.

Icon-wise, someone on here said they open Photoshop or whatever and set the canvas to 100x100, then size or crop the image as they see fit. Just don't put borders or text in there and you should be fine.

if they're genuinely depressed then you shouldn't be expecting a thank you. that's not how depression works. if they're depressed then they already feel like shit and trying to cheer them up is likely to make them feel guilty for wasting your time too.

that said, if you're disappointed at the lack of gratitude or that they're 'stuck' in this state, it might be best to move on. sometimes people can slip back into heavy states of depression; this person could be this way for a while. as you said, you're not very close and it sounds like you're only interested in the rp side of things?

which isn't an accusation btw. i'm not saying it's a bad thing. this is a hobby and like the other anon said, you are not their therapist and it isn't your job to lift them up. so if you're fine with moving on and you're done with waiting, i'd say move on.

or at least limit contact for a while. cut back, or whatever. don't expect anything from them until they feel better. if that happens.

it's not selfish to want to move on. you're in this hobby to write and to have fun, i assume. if they're not writing, you don't need to stick around. some people like that can unfortunately be very draining.

not so much? there is a network post about phone sex going on right now, and i've seen a couple of other network things turn smutty. mostly it's just asking about the bingo cards, what certain kinks mean, offering hookups and the kind of thing that then leads to closed logs.

also, some characters need cr before smutting and not all characters have chemistry together or match each other's prefs. also, not all players want to smut with everybody, like the players who are fine with underage gen cr but not smut. so there are gen threads going on in the game, too.

What do you consider character squatting? Is it something you'd bring up with that person because it might effect your character or bring it up to mods? I think games need to be a little stricter on character squatting. People who only do the minimum comments for AC or people who never finish threads but talk about rp all the time on plurk or app in 100 games but never finish plots with people and leave people hanging.
