if it's a character you wrote entirely yourself, in an established media world (like lotr or doctor who): canon OC

Is OP talking about a world they created themselves, that has become an established media world?

Like say OP is Philip Pullman and this OC is Lyra from HDM. Does he app her as an OC or an established character?

I've always wondered.

i feel like this has come up before, usually with webcomic creators, and the answer was app as OC.

for something that's big-name media, you don't tell anyone because that's a terrible idea

for something like a webcomic, most people would expect you to app as an oc. in part this is historically due to people drawing their characters twice and claiming it as a canon to get around "no OC" rules.

but it is tricky because some comics are just enough at the tipping point between popularity and not where their creators and fans could both conceivably be here.
