Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Something happened a few days ago and I don't know what, but now, whenever Firefox tries to load a page with any Flash on it, the entire browser freezes and I get constant Flash error messages offering to let me stop the script or continue loading. Uninstalling Flash makes it work fine, but it also means that I can't load any Flash-based games or videos. Reinstalling Flash gives me the same issue.

Also, if I click 'continue', I get two Flash processes in my 'Background Processes' section of the Task Manager. They add up. I had to clear out two hundred of them a little while ago.

I think they have to many people for their "we can barley run our spaceship so everyone has to pitch in" idea to work". Then again a lot of the premise would have anyone I would app in side eyeing the NPC Captains.

So first we should try and figure out what actually is causing it since it may not actually be flash player itself, it could be something else interfering with it.

Have you tried one of the sites in another browser like Chrome or IE? Could be an update Firefox did, or an update one of your plugins did that caused it. Also if you updated the flash player recently, it could be possible the build you got isn't as stable as it could be and rolling back to an earlier one could fix it. So right now the idea is to get a better idea of what the cause is by ruling out factors, the easy one to rule out is if it's something related to firefox or not by trying it in another browser.

A new hire is a gamble, an internal promotion is a much safer decision

In the future, you can usually tell actually open positions from internal hires that are obligated to be posted on USAjobs by the deadline. If it's only 2 or 3 weeks it's pretty much gaurenteed to already have been filled.

No education starts to not mean shit any more even as young as 25 and you have people with college degrees that have been working ft for a couple of years already

I recently upgraded to Firefox 47.0. I don't know when Flash last updated, it does its thing automatically, but before I uninstalled it again it was v22.0.0.192.

I also added a new Greasemonkey script, but it didn't involve Flash at all.

It seemed to work fine on Internet Explorer, but I wasn't sure whether to mention that because Firefox is NPAPI and IE is ActiveX.

I've also got the same version of Firefox, Flash, and I put the same Greasemonkey script set up on my laptop, and it doesn't have any issues. It's only a problem on my desktop.

The most recently updated Firefox plugin was "Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc." I have no clue what that is or what it does, but it came in on June 12, about a week before I started having these problems.

Wait, scratch that. Forgot to check Extensions. Newest update for those was Cookies Manager+, updated a day or two before I noticed issues.

Exactly. And think about it from the other side - if you'd worked your butt off to get put into a certain position, you wouldn't be very happy if it went to a new hire.

It's really more a problem with requiring all jobs to be posted. I understand why they're required to do it, but it gives false hope to one side and undue stress to the other.

The part about the laptop actually helps to know along with it working in IE. So something is up with the Firefox on your desktop. Are there any other differences between your laptop and desktop? Like any plugins on your desktop that aren't on the laptop?

And how long ago did you update Firefox? Even if the version is the same as on your laptop a bad install isn't impossible.

I'm going to punch the next person who points to STEM degrees as the solution to unemployment. I have a STEM degree. It is not helping. The STEM shortage is a pile of BS to justify outsourcing. And because I do have the STEM degree, no one wants to hire me for any other crap jobs because they figure I'll jump ship the minute I get a STEM related offer. Which I would but I need to pay my fucking rent.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish they would just not fucking posts jobs that aren't actually available. I've gotten burned on this a few times. I have skills that should count for something but it clearly doesn't.

i loved it too, anon (: i thought it was entertaining as all two hecks.

I honestly don't remember when I updated Firefox. Both of them work off of 47.0. I can try for a reinstall.

Extension-wise, the only ones on my desktop that aren't on my laptop are Cookies Manager+ (last updated a few days before I had issues), MEGA (last updated today), a few HP-related ones (laptop's a Dell, desktop's HP, these were all updated about three years ago.), and Tumblr Savior (last updated in April.) Plugin-wise, they're largely identical, with the exception of some HP stuff and Uplay PC.

So what would you say the tone of this game is like, anons? From the premise and the enablers on plurk I thought it was more on the lighthearted end of plotty, but reading all this about murder plots makes it sound like it's much darker in tone. I'm not looking for a place where only nice things happen to my character and I'm not interested in solely slice of life, but I just got out of a horror game and I'm burnt out on playing my character in constant peril. I know one thread on an anoncomm isn't necessarily indicative of the overall game tone, though, so I was just interested in hearing more before I start looking at apping. Thanks in advance!

I have a STEM master's degree. I make six figures

Re: EMPATHEIAS

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
emp is not a horror game by any stretch of the imagination. most of the death has been cast specific plots and are very contained. that's why the mods bringing special attention to it and introducing this new special entity is so out of left field and confusing. the entire point was to cut down on death plots in the first place (there have only been three recently though...)

the biggest events are the festivals and parties followed by god caused events and then followed by some psuedo political/bureaucracy stuff of being representatives for the otherworlders. there is some very long running mystery elements of figuring out just what the gods are and the history of the floating island too. overall it's a light mood with occasional action plots like the earthquake created by aiada.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
its a fantasy game with a balance of serious and lighthearted. its not anywhere near as dark in tone as this thread makes it sounds, you're fine.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
does anyone else get really irritated by characters who have masses upon masses of uncredited fanart icons but basically nothing from the actual source material

Re: EMPATHEIAS

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks anon! That sounds a lot more like a mix I would be happy with.

+1

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The tone is very aggressive. She has right to be mad of course but this isnt debate class.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! That's good to hear. A more balanced game is what I'm currently looking for.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd start with some of those plugins since those are the obvious difference. If none of those end up being the cause, try the rollback of firefox and update again and see if that resolves. If that still doesn't do it, try to disable all extensions and see if that resolves. If it does, then enable one by one until you find the culprit.

Good luck anon!
