So the basic concept is:

A new continent has been discovered. Three nations have joined forces (both out of need and out of a distrust of what the others would get up to unsupervised) to carve out a settlement at the only (currently) viable landing point.

Characters would be from one of the three nations:

An empire where the magical elite rule absolutely, dangling the promise of freedom to get those chafing under their reign to assume the risks of expanding the Empire's territory into the new world.

An alliance of City States where position and status is determined by the significance of contributions you have made to the magical and scientific communities. These new lands provide vast opportunities for the ambitious to make new discoveries and gain positions they have long sought.

And an enigmatic Kingdom, long estranged from the rest of the world. Though they refuse to share their reasoning with the other nations, they seek the long lost origin of their people.

The general idea is for the game to center around exploration and trying to build a stable community in a new, possibly hostile land with the inhabitants having wildly different goals and allegiances.

Still a very rough idea, but thought I would throw it out here for input!

Man, this sounds so exactly up my street - AU, communal worldbuilding, focus on CR with political/cultural implications. I think this kind of game is hard to market for in DWRP the way it is now - if you made it, it would probably be pretty small. (Which is fine!)

What kind of magic system are you thinking of?

Something I thought of while watching Maze Runner/Scorch Trials the other day, but here's a neat idea for a game. Aside from being loose inspiration, it would have nothing to do with the actual canon itself.

-Survival based. Characters have been rescued from a jamjar situation, but are now set loose on a strange and alien world where they have to avoid being returned to their enclosure.
-The jamjar scientist people have stripped you of your powers and memories, leaving you as blank slates with only a vague notion of who you are.
-Memory and abilities regains would have an element of randomness. For instance for memories, players would choose two canon memories and the mods would generate some random fake memory. A monthly roulette for all players (probably tied to AC?) would decide which of these three memories the character regains. Getting a false memory could have interesting effects on your characters. Likewise characters could regain the wrong powers as well.
-Characters would spend about as much time traveling with the group as they would in camps. So instead of lots of threads of just hanging about at their homes, characters would basically always be in some form of transit. Within the band of refugees, characters could inevitably still take up roles of their own in order to be useful.
-The jamjar scientists would always be hunting for players. Characters that are dropped will have been considered to be recaptured. Characters that go on hiatus or stray from the group will have been detained, but ultimately rescued again. Those who try to desert or go off on their own would inevitably be returned to the group, but having suffered some kind of penalty for doing so.
-Probably some kind of dystopian and post apocalyptic setting which is kind of boring at this point, but it fits here.
-Ideally a short run game with a smaller playerbase. Decent amount of plot would be needed to keep going, with the ultimate goal of getting the characters to a place of safety where they can either return home or try to stop the evil jamjar scientists or figure out why they were doing it in the first place.

so there's been a big enough clamor for return to some oldschool LJ style games that I've spent a week or so putting some ideas together. I'd like some input, though I already plan on moving ahead with this.

Setting - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4He3UxkHnE

The Cleft of Dimensions, think Chrono Cross (actually pretty much exactly like Chrono Cross), a surrealist between-worlds like place that exists beyond the fabric of space and time in its own unique existence that sort of follows its own rules. By default, the entire place looks like Van Gogh and Escher did a collab. It all feels very impressionistic, with very little in the way of traditionally solid shapes, and pathways that have no meaning or destination. The Cleft itself appears as an island of sorts on a great cosmic ocean, vast and unable to be traversed, as swimming out in any direction will only eventually lead you back to the Cleft itself.

Characters arrive entirely by accident. No omniscient force has summoned them, it is just by complete cosmic happenstance that they have arrived on the shores of this bizarre world. Which isn't to say the Cleft lacks its own sentient inhabitants. There will be NPCs of some kind, just not of the typical jamjar overlord variety.

Food is provided, but the fruit and water will often have strange side-effects. These can be personalized "curse" style events, or they can be nothing at all. Most of the time, it's perfectly safe to eat and drink of the Cleft's bounty. The option is just there for players who want to make use of it.

Shelter comes in the form of a massive tree house structure, with multiple rooms and cottages built into a giant sprawling and ancient tree. The tree itself is not immune to the weirdness of the Cleft, and sometimes may change its own shape and form, or how the laws of physics apply in its vicinity.

Events will range from surreal to oldschool cracky to even mildly horrific. The Cleft of Dimensions is a highly unstable place, prone to shifts in how we understand reality. It plays be no rules but its own, and those rules are well beyond the understanding of corporeal beings. It may even, at times, take on the form and functions of familiar worlds, depending on which canons are represented in the game.

There's no real timetable for events at the moment, but I figure with larger scale ones we'll do them monthly, and smaller interpersonal events can be on a case by case basis.

Also, given the nature of the game's setting, I fully intend to allow AUs and CRAUs, because there's little logical reason why they wouldn't exist in a world like this.

I've been stalking this com waiting for news ever since the first discussion thread

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have the time to run this yet, but eventually down the line I'd like to give it a whirl (or give the idea up to someone else). Right now, the major sex games either seem to rely heavily on sex-or-die, some kind of mechanic that keeps a certain subset of people oppressed, or are based on consent and SOL but with rules in place to make it so conflict isn't really possible. I want to try to create sex game that straddles a few lines to be something different.

The Setting

- a fantasy city/kingdom with magic and magitech
- there'd be some cultural draws from cultures equivalent to the middle east, India, Africa, etc, and also some cultures that seem totally alien
- the mythical creatures would be original or drawn from non-European cultures (like a whole species of kinnara) to make it seem like a truly alien world.
- the visual aesthetic would mix things from fantasy and sci fi canons like Final Fantasy, the Dark Crystal, ATLA, Steven Universe, and A Wrinkle Time.
- like the consent-based games, people get offered a tantalizing incentive to the city. They can revive people from the dead, prevent disasters, you name it.
- it's basically a do-anything magic wish, and its only limitation would be that it can't be used to somehow hurt someone else or do something bad to them non-consensually.

The Sex Gimmick

- why are the characters being propositioned for the city? consensual sex and nonsexual affection helps breathe life back into two powerful goddesses that once protected the whole world from incursions by otherworldly creatures that regularly attack it. They've found that non-natives, for some reason, produce greater amounts of this energy with their acts of intimacy
- the goddesses loved one another and loved their world and exerted all their love/life energy protecting their world from a really horrific threat from outside the universe, a formless nightmare-being called Keku.
- because their powers were derived from their love, sex, love, and non-sexual physical intimacy produce similar life energy that's slowly reviving them.
- when they're revived, it's thought that they will finally be strong enough to destroy Keku for good and close off their world to its dimension forever.
- kinky stuff totally counts! They were very chill goddesses with a zest for life whose response to most questions of "is this weird sex shit we're doing okay?" was "geddit!" as long as everything was consensual.

The Feelings Gimmick

- the goddesses only managed to banish Keku's main form and couldn't kill it before they fell into their crystal sleep, so in between the sexing, the city faces incursions by Keku's monsters, that sometimes breach into the game universe from the space between worlds
- if Keku destroys the city, he can try to destroy the crystallized giant goddesses underneath and will destroy the infrastructure they're using to revive them
- the monsters that come through are pretty terrifying and hard to even look at. (I'm figuring on a vibe like the art from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark: http://i.imgur.com/aUvhGyR.jpg).
- they can't be fought physically! Each has some kind of negative magical mental status effect, like infecting a person with a fever that makes them rant and rave about their worst nightmares, or linking two characters together and inflicting their bad memories on each other, or otherwise causing emotional damage
- to fight them, everyone in the city is armed with magical crystal devices that harness the life energy of the city, and they reconfigure each time to provide counter-attacks.
- usually for each incident, these counterattacks are different each time, but typically require people to join their willpower and work together. The device tells them the solution, they do it to power their devices, and then they can wipe that particular type of creature from existence.
- depending on what type of monster it is, sometimes they have to link up with the devices and share memories with each other, or admit a deep secret, or confess their feelings for each other, or some other intimate (typically verbal or mental) act.
- the characters would be warned about the monster incursions before they arrive, too, just like they'd have the sex thing explained. That's why the city offers very tantalizing incentives for people to come.

The Vibe

- the game would be mostly SOL in a really beautiful fantasy city, with lots of fantasy creatures and cool culture, and lots of fun things to do there. (Since pleasure and love and affection revive the goddesses, it's considered something of a sex-positive magical Las Vegas).
- people can take up jobs to get more than their base pay for being there, including cool magical ones that don't exist on their worlds. (The light dancers of the city are renowned across the world!) They can create businesses, the whole works.
- but the monotony is broken up with the occasional monster incursion, where characters have to rely on each other and share things with each other to fight the monsters with willpower, honesty, openness of their feelings and so on.

tl;dr summary

- a fantasy (science fantasy?) consent-based game with lots of SOL and a little conflict, where characters fight the occasional monster attack with their emoooshuns.

Would anyone be interested in that?

You really need aphro too to make a sex game work for some characters. Completely cutting out non-con will put off a lot of people too, even if it's mostly based on consent/consent is encouraged.

I doubt you're going to get the conflict you're looking for in a game that's mostly cuddly SOL and it's not what I look for in sex games, but I wish you luck. I wouldn't have thought Eudio would get as big as it did, either, so obviously this is some people's cup of tea.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, you're going to be catering to a very niche group with this type of premise. There are three major groups of characters that don't really fit in at Eudio:

1. Characters who just wouldn't do much sexually without some sort of aphro.
2. Characters who wouldn't agree to a deal at all.
3. Villain characters inappropriate for the light-hearted setting.

This game seems like it would have the same limitations as Eudio, so your demographic would pretty much be "players that already like Eudio but don't like the fact that the consent aspect extends beyond sex and into things like fights and events". Which, hey, might be a few people.

But Eudio is a huge, established game and those people may already play there even if they're a little meh on that one aspect. Getting them to try a new game instead when an established game mostly fills the same niche (a purely consensual cuddle game). I don't know if DWRP is big enough to sustain two separate cuddlegames that both cater to the same demographics. I guess all I can suggest is either:

1. Don't make the game purely light hearted. Allow for darker themes - just don't allow non-con plots. This will allow players to app in characters that aren't totally suitable for the conflict-free environment of Eudio and thus attract more players. Of course players should still acknowledge that if they app a murderer, they can't play the type of plot that would lead to non-consensual sex, but if they can go darker than Eudio in non-sex areas it'd be more appealing. However, you might want to keep the game light hearted and focus most of the conflict on PCs vs monsters rather than vs each other, so this might not be a good option.

OR

2. Foster an environment where players are free and encouraged to play the kinks and pairings that they want even if they're not totally IC. That doesn't mean free reign to play total crack personality-wise, but a compromise between what the players want to play and what the characters would ICly do. TBH, the reason I like aphro in my sex games is because it's a good excuse to play things I want to play without having to find some wild kinkster of a character. I'd be perfectly happy with "this is a consent based game so no aphro, but don't be harsh on people for the smut that they play".

Hey anon, I think I can see what you're aiming for here and as someone that plays at Eudio and enjoys it there, but would maybe also like another sex game with more conflict, I like the cut of your jib with this idea. I think there's a lot of room to use some of the better suggestions in this thread to make it a game with some SOL but also maybe some mod-run and player-run conflicts that help characters relate to each other, without need for any things that break sexual consent.

Also, while I enjoy noncon and dubcon myself I also recognize that it's good for RP to have a handful of sex games without it for those that are uncomfortable with it or have traumas that make them not want to deal with it, and I can see how that might conflict with the theme you're aiming for. And while Eudio's a nice alternative it's pretty much the only one and the game doesn't allow for many villain plots or peril at all. You're right that there's a potential niche here even if it's a small one. I know a lot of the people that might like this that aren't the types to go on rpa to see this.

So if you want to pass the idea off to someone or have a comod that can maybe take a firmer hand with people for you, pop me a PM to this sock. I wouldn't be able to jump in right away, but it sounds like you'd maybe need some time before you got to it too, so maybe we could work on it over time and build it up together. I also know people to advertise to that might be interested.

Re: GAME IDEAS

Not a game idea proposal per se, but I've been wondering if it would be better to create a game that facilitates play for an entire community of players, rather than using a setting and plot as a hook if you want to make a big game.

Like, maybe something of a setting that requires little to read, but also gives players options whenever if they want to play SoL/Adventure/Horror (maybe even allowing a little worldbuilding), allows for there to be a balance between characters, and incentivices interactions between canons. Something of a sandbox?

I do see a lot of great ideas in here, but sometimes I think players might also feel intimidated by the amount of lore they would have to read, and trying to have a game with a solid core sometimes also comes in conflcit with trying to cater to as many people as possible, especially when some of the suggestions break the setting.

my first thought about this is i don't know if it's possible to make a setting that's both a) flexible enough that you can do anything in it and b) specific enough that it's worth having and DWRPers will join it rather than ignoring it like every other dressing room and sandbox.

Jam jar pan fandom scifi horror game set in night vale. seriously a richer weirder setting was never pre-existing. Thoughts?

skeptical. wtnv has a very specific charm. i know i definitely wouldn't be confident about being able to duplicate it, and i'd be a little dubious of anyone who claimed they could. i'm not saying it's impossible, but i'd have to give this game at least six months before i joined to see how the mods did with it, because it strikes me as very hard to do right and very easy to do wrong.

OC Only Korean Drama/KBeauty School

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I realize this is probably a niche idea, but I'd be content running a small game anyway with a closely-knit cast.

Loosely based on the OnStyle webseries Beautiology 101, it would be a university-style setting focused on cosmetology - specifically skincare, haircare, and makeup.

Original characters only, PBs have to be Korean (a few Japanese and Chinese or Taiwanese students would be permitted but would be at a cap). Backstories would be on the light side, due to the fluffy content of the setting.

It'd be slice-of-life primarily but with Kdrama cliches thrown in for plotting and whatever else. 'Ships' of all sorts would actually be encouraged (including with faculty NPCs, though activity with such would be limited vs. with other players).

Are there others who would be remotely interested? If I can get 10-15 people on-board then I'll totally set it up.

Shin Megami Tensei game - plot/survival/adventure

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
This is a project I'm already working on, but I thought I'd run it by the anoncomm to see how it flies.

It would be a stand-alone RP using the demons and mechanics from the SMT games (mostly from the ones under the numbered Shin Megami Tensei title rather than Persona). Anyone would be able to enjoy it, whether they're a fan of any of the games/series in the franchise or not.

Emphasis would be put on recruiting, raising, and fusing demons but characters could still choose not to participate in that. Choosing not to have a character gain any levels earns them a certain amount of default protection from demons that they lose should they decide to gain strength on their own. A character can raise demons without raising their own level. Character levels and the ability to make contracts with higher level demons are earned by passing activity, with level growth for individual demons earned through extra activity so that it's possible for someone to raise any demon they want to max level and have it still be useful (unlike in many of the games). Participating in plot events can also result in level bonuses.

Demons would be earned through capture, fusion, and from special events. New demons and/or areas for the characters to explore will be revealed on a monthly basis. Characters and demons can know only a limited number of skills at any one time, and each character is also limited in how many demons they can call upon. However, once someone has made a pact with a demon they can recall a stored image of them from their demonic compendium at their default level. There will also be a shrine system where characters can turn in a leveled demon once a week for a reward.

It will require a lot of note keeping, but anyone who enjoys playing SMT games is probably used to that anyway. In the end, I think it could be a very enjoyable experience.

The setting is a deserted city in a post-apocalyptic world (as many SMT games make use of) and the plot will involve discovering where they are, who or what brought them there, and for what purpose.

Thoughts?

digimon game

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm really craving one again but idk if the concept is RUINED FOREVER or doomed to never get off the ground or what after the clusterfuck that was digital dive and the failure of terminal

i still like the idea of something based on the original digimon world game where the objective is to restore a central base of operations by exploring the game world and undertaking missions, etc. while uncovering the threads of a larger underlying plot

idk. thoughts?

Double Sided Sex Game?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-27 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I was toying with the idea of the usual jamjar setting with people getting yanked into a fantasy world from their worlds, only letting appers decide which side of the war they get yanked into. One will have the coerced sex option, the other will have the 'you're free to do what you please but we do need people to have sex in order to enhance our powers to resist those coerced guys so if you can make that happen that would be greeeeeeeeeeat' option.

Coerced side: has the wristbands/collars that either kill or inject heavy aphros if they're not providing sex either to the soldiers to give them powers, or being soldiers themselves. The side where the terrible stuff happens. Led by a warlord, wants to conquer the other side and enslave them.

Freedom side: Can go SoL and offer incentives for those who fight back against the invaders, but they basically get to decide who they want and how often, or even just not at all if there isn't anyone around to catch their interest but they still want to participate.

I dunno, maybe toss in a few roaming tentacle monsters that people can NPC too to suit their kinky needs. Why not.
