help finding a game?

does anyone know of any games where there's an established way to handle the whole lack of grief seeds things? I've been wanting to play Kyouko for a while but I'm not sure how exactly to avoid the whole turning into a witch thing in games that keep powers.

I know it probably wouldn't happen as fast depending on the genre of the game, like if there's not as much reason to use her powers, but it's still something that would loom on the horizon that I don't want to ignore.

(of course I could look for games that nerf or replace powers, and I have been searching around some, but I want to know what other options there are)

haven has a system where the girls find grief seeds as random drops i think. haven't checked in a while. exitvoid allows them to get grief seeds from merchants (it's been a while for this too but i'm pretty sure that is the case). crux_fleet would allow synthesized/artificial grief seeds to be used. none of these games have a kyouko as far as i know.

Some games may also let you handwave the need for grief seeds, or in games that slightly dampen powers outside of events and stuff, they may not need them unless their power goes back to full strength. I know muns in luceti did something like that.

You could also look into just making the effects of not having a grief seed occur more slowly, so you can still play with the idea of them turning into a witch and being killed someday for player plots, without it being your character's chief concern in game.

What the actual fuck

If it turns out that the ending was just one big ~elaborate plan~ by homura to get Kyuubey to understand that human emotions can't be controlled/ are unpredictable OR to get him to feel emotion and despair at his situation (evidence: in the new universe she created he had signs of "watery"? anime eyes and then really dark-scribbles in his pupils showing some sort of negative emotion), I'm going to flip a table.

I am so butthurt by this movie. God. I always disliked Homura's character and her unhealthy obsession with Madoka, but it made me so pissed she called that obsession love like it's the most pure thing ever.

...I guess I'm also butthurt because a lot of homura players never acknowledge that Homura is just toxic to Madoka at this point and thing her love is a beautiful thing when it's totally not. Is creepy and destructive.

look i don't like the movie either (as a standalone it might've been okay, but slotted into the series just no, why ruin a good thing) but

if the movie was anyone's plan it was kyuubey's. it just backfired. majorly in their face(s). homura didn't plan anything, for once; unlike in main series she's flying pretty blind and making a lot of assumptions that are all false false false because all her planning was from experience, and i'm pretty sure she's never been an amnesiac soul fragment of a half-witch suspended in between states before. even if she had, amnesiac.

if you don't want to blame blatant open setup for a second season for the movie, you can blame kyuubey for it, because for once it was totally their fault. you can argue that maybe homura was 'asking for it' by way of the fact that she mentioned madoka and the previous world at all but that's more likely to just be her being lax and not expecting that kyuubey could do something like completely isolate her soul gem. besides, her priorities regarding madoka have always superseded anything regarding kyuubey, so if it was one big plan from the beginning it would've been to "keep madoka from going away and making herself unhappy all alone in space-time" rather than "hey kyuubey, emotions are dangerous."

really by the time she goes full on witchhomurakuma she's pretty hedonistic seeming, so all the kyuubey torture she indulges in is just a side bonus of ruling the world.

that obsession was love though. it can't be denied that homura loves madoka. love is not necessarily a pure thing. it's an unhealthy love and i think that's kind of the whole point of the thing, neckbeard yuri waifu blah blah pandering aside.

i'm wondering where you ran into homura players who thought last-10-minutes-of-the-movie homura wasn't creepy and/or destructive, though. i thought everyone pretty much agreed 'yup, she lost it.' and what made you think it was homura's plan in the first place, because that's a really long stretch even by tumblr standards.

She does love Madoka. But there is such a thing called obsessive love, and that's what Homura feels. It's not pure or happy or whatnot. It's very toxic and dangerous. It's ALWAYS been that way, and yeah, the fact people don't acknowledge that Homura and Madoka is an unhealthy as fuck ship bug me, too. But hey. Guess what. Love isn't 100% pure and happy, it comes in some very dark flavors.

i'm just mad at how the plot was handled in general.

the anime was just so tight and cohesive plot-wise (until the end) and rebellion is a frigging mess by comparison. maybe i'm biased because i've always been more interested in kyouko/sayaka/mami but wtf do those three actually do? mami and homu have a pretty, well-animated fight… that has no stakes or impact on anything as far as i can remember. kyouko and sayaka chase each other around and act overly cutesy, then they get into these abstract conversations that don't seem particularly ic or purposeful, and then they get thrown into a fight where they appear to have no real grasp of what's going on? — much like me at that point.

to be fair it's been a while since i watched it and now that there's a clean version available to the masses i can watch it again, but i just hate schlocky writing in anime where ~magical things~ happen that have no precedence and/or don't abide by the in-universe rules that have been established for the audience.

like in the series we get introduced to new rules about magical girls and soul gems throughout but they make sense when put together with what we already know. more importantly, the stakes are clearly defined so that, like, when we learn magical girls turn into withces, that sayaka/mami ain't gonna like that too much, now let's see how they'd deal with it! etc.

in rebellion, we get a fake homura world that the audience recognizes is off in some way right from the get-go because it doesn't line up with what we saw of the world the anime leaves us with. so we start with a fake world with fake versions of the other characters while things only get more and more abstract from there… and the investment then comes from where, exactly? especially since it seems ambiguous whether homura is aware and in control of whatever the hell is going on.

sorry for the mostly unrelated tl;dr but the plot and structure of the movie did not impress me, and imo those elements were what really stood out in the anime.

alas, much as I like her character (flaws and all), Homura's not really my type to play. otherwise I definitely would because playing out the problems if half the fun to me, plus I just plain like unhealthy devotion in fiction

honestly my problem is how many people treat homura and madoka as a 1trupurelove. i didn't care that much about the pairing even before the movie, but after it i just think this pairing is trash and kind of sideeye anyone who thinks of it as ~pure yuri rabu~ cause you can like the pairing but at least acknowledge what it really is.

I really want to do Gretchen x Homulilly, but I understand that shipping witches is a very small niche.

Aside from that...I've always wanted to play out Madoka x Sayaka.

If anybody is willing, I would definitely like to also play Homura from Rebellion! Of course, I kind of want to attempt doing her mid-Rebellion (like, while she's still Moemura - especially since there were some timeskips within the movie and it would be cool to play that out..) as well as post-Rebellion; though I would also love to attempt playing Homura as a witch, too.

I also have accounts for Mami and Madoka if anybody wants to do anything with them as well!

I've decided to take up the task of making some icons for anybody who wanted to play from Rebellion (especially for any prospective Homuras and Nagisas) or just get new expressions in general. First part is here with Homura, Madoka, Mami, Sayaka and Nagisa! I'm going to make some of Kyouko and Moemura as well, though if anybody wants Kyuubey or any of the other characters, feel free to ask me!

The number of people I've seen on plurk, Tumblr and other sites who wanted Rebellion to end with happy MadoHomu/SakaKyoko lesbians really kind of disturbs me, because then they turn around and complain about how OOC Homura is in Rebellion and whine about how their happy ending was destroyed and how betrayed they feel.

MadoHomu was never going to be happy and healthy, not without Homura working out a ton of issues.

Fangirls seem to self-project on Homura and make her their Mary Sue a fucking LOT from what I've seen. (If it's not Sayaka, it's her)That would certainly explain MANY things about their idealization of HomuMado and Homura in general, and how they go NO NO NOYOU MUST BE AN HOMOPHOBE UWAAAAAAAH when their ~pweshus yuri goddess~ snd/or ~peerfect girl/girl oooh teee peee~ are ever portrayed in a non-Purity Sue way.

I find Rebellion is partially a deconstruction of Homura's character and specifically attacks those who had an idealized version of her character.

I confess at one point I was one of those people.
