About the Game

SRW UG@ is a multi-fandom, OC-friendly plot based RP based on the Super Robot Wars series of video games. If you want to play a character from a mecha canon, keep your mech, memories and plot, and get to team up with others to fight your villains and theirs - this might be the game for you!

The game is community-based with AIM-based missions on average twice a week for combat-heavy plot events. The plot is a combination of the plots of the component canons in a semi-post-apocalyptic setting, with an overarching conflict affecting the entire setting each season. Not only mecha pilots (Japanese and Western) but power armor users, transforming heroes, and more are welcome - including noncombatants!

Stargate AU Game

I brought this up last post, but I'll mention it one more time, to see if there's any interest.

I may not have time to run as a large scale game, but I figured I'd share the ideas I had for it. If I DID start it, there'd be a character cap in place until I have a solid enough mod team I felt comfortable enough to lift it. But here's the basic premise:

-Set in 2013. It accepts the entire Stargate series as its background. This means SG-1 characters will be major NPCs in the game played by mods or established volunteer players.

-The Stargate program was made public knowledge on Earth in 2011.

-The setting will be a special "Exchange Site" that is functionally similar to the "Alpha Sites" used in the series. More importantly, it's going to be a colony city designed to allow people from Earth to live alongside people from the human worlds across the Milky Way galaxy. Being there is voluntary, but an extremely unique honor. Most people will want to be there for the opportunity. There will be several mechanisms that give incentives for why characters would want to be there.

-Character will be AUed to fit this universe. Fortunately the Stargate setting allows a ton of flexibility for this. We'll bend canon a little as we go to allow people to create new unvisited worlds that will try to match different canon worlds. This will allow people to match their characters to their canon originals as close as possible. Certainly moreso than most AU games allow.

-Character powers will have origins rooted in Stargate canon. This will come from alien technology, evolved humans ('near ascension' humans), and genetic experimentation. Although characters may be toned down to put people on a more level playing field, you won't have to worry about your character having to lose their canon powers.

-You won't need to know Stargate to play. The game information will provide just the information you need to play. Major plot arcs from the series may get mentioned and have some involvement (like the Jaffa, the Tok'ra, Atlantis, the Trust, etc...) at times, the game will focus on its own plot arcs so people don't have to watch the series to feel like they can really participate.

-Characters will form SG teams to explore new worlds with a mission-based setup. These teams will be composed of characters who offer complementing skills and each team may have different purposes: exploration, military, medical relief, research, and so on. Generally these teams will always be led by an Earth military character, but team members don't have to be from Earth.

-The experimental city will be the pinnacle of Tauri (Earth) technology. For those who know Stargate, it would be better to think of this as being like an Atlantis made by humans.

-Original Characters will be allowed, though naturally they'd exist in the Stargate canon. Although groups like the Jaffa will not likely have a big impact on this game, someone could certainly create a Jaffa OC if they wanted to. The same goes for any group in the Stargate universe, provided they're not extinct. (In that sense, we wouldn't allow an Asgard OC.)

-Stargate Characters not reserved as NPCs can be apped. This includes Stargate Universe characters. We'll either make up an ending to SGU or just retcon it. Although Atlantis will have returned to the Pegasus Galaxy, those characters can still show up as part of the Exchange Site anyway.
-- Tentatively, the characters expected as NPCs would include: Jack O'Neill, Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson, Vala Mal Doran, and Cameron Mitchell. (Possibly Teal'c, but his role is rather unimportant here.)

-Overall, this is a game that does highly favor adult characters who are in the military or some kind of scientific discipline. But this does not mean characters not from this background won't have their place too. There's a lot of room for everyone, even underage characters. While underage characters may not be able to join SG teams, there should be other things that come up to keep them busy.

-Non-human characters not already invented in the Stargate mythos are still up for consideration. There is certainly room for alien races in the Milky Way galaxy, they would have to be of limited influence.

-There would be a 'Character Creation Workshop' post for people to share their characters and get tips from mods and players alike for how best to adapt them to the setting. We'd encourage people to combine canons into single worlds when possible and try to make things as cohesive as possible. The game would definitely rely on a wikia to keep everything straight.

There's more I could share, but that's the gist of it. So, any thoughts? Anyone interested in joining something like this? More importantly, anyone interested in modding something like this?

I was going to make the villain I had in mind more of a morally ambiguous hero who still does horrible things but for the sake of good this time, but I'm not sure how to pull it off without falling into the same old tired cliches that you guys hate.

I don't particularly like playing with castmates in games. PSLs and memes? Sure, okay.

90% of the time I pick and develop characters that can stand on their own without any castmates and then app them into games as a lone-canon warrior. I want to see how they do and how they develop *without* people from their canon. I love cross-canon CR, obviously, and I never have any trouble drumming it up or going after it while keeping my character IC. It's much more freeing, in my opinion.

Most of the time I end up with a cast and this happens without any effort on my part to enable. Typically it is from people already in the game who have interacted with my character or followed them in some capacity.

I really hate it. Even if I'm asked before the person apps, I think it's pretty rude to say "No, don't app this character. I don't want castmates." What if they want to explore the same setting with their character?

I usually try to play out things with them for a while but eventually I'll drop my character.

An easy solution would be just to start playing from crazy obscure canons or make OCs but I am very fond of the roster that I play. So this is more just a vent. I don't tell anyone about this since it is an a-typical and unpopular stance. Yeah, it makes me a bad rper, in this sense. That's usually why I drop.

What if you just peacefully drifted away from them in game? It's not so bad to see castmates that aren't too active with each other, as long as they're active in the game. And if it's what you'd prefer, no one can demand it of you.

But it all boils down to having fun, so if it's better for you to drop than find a way to make it work, then more power to you.

So an old character I used to play was recently dropped at my old game, and I’m feeling really tempted to re-app once a little more time passes. Problem: when I played this character before I was still new to RP and really, honestly bad. Most of the old players who had to put up with my awkwardbutt tags for over a year are still in the game now and even though I feel like I’ve improved a lot in the 8+ months I’ve been gone I wouldn’t blame them at all if they had some iffy feelings about playing with me again.

So, RP etiquette wise what’s the best way to handle this? is it better to broach the subject OOCly first and give them a chance to talk it out with me or should I just re-app without consulting old CR? Should I just put it all behind me and play the character in another game with less baggage instead?

i wouldn't bother talking it out OOCly unless you did some, idk, really serious stuff. like, wankgate worthy stuff. i'd say go for it and re-app anyway. if needed, reset the character because that'll probably help ease the awkwardness a bit.

everyone was new at one point, anon, and i'm sure those other players understand. if you feel you've improved in those 8+ months, it'll show through your playing.
