Any advice at all would be useful as I'm new to both the character and the fandom. I think I have a decent grasp on her behavior and manner of speech overall, but I'm not quite sure where else I need to flesh her out most, or what would be important to keep in mind while playing her. (For the record, I've played the original game and that's all, but I'm not averse to looking into other parts of canon for reference.)

I would actually suggest looking at her portrayal in the OVAs. I haven't played her, but I've played with several and the things I would suggest keeping in mind are:

- she is modest but confident: she doesn't let people push her around
- she considers others her equals, and doesn't like to use her royal status as leverage unless absolutely necessary. She sees it as a tool, but not an advantage.
- she is resigned to not finding happiness or love and seems to avoid bitterness over it by focusing on the happiness in others and helping others achieve it.
- she finds joy in the little things. Dango, seeing Chizuru dressed up, etc.

Thanks! Those are some pretty solid things to go on, and I'll check out the OVAs; more Sen appearances are always helpful considering her relatively little screentime overall.

As for more questions, I don't think I have any specifically, but I can say that one thing I'm struggling with is how to flesh out her backstory/experiences with life based on what we know, and how much I need to do that? On the one hand, Sen is a side character and not as fully explored as the major characters, which means I'll want to put some thought into the parts of her life that aren't seen in-game; on the other hand, I don't need or want to go overboard with figuring out every detail of her existence. Some of that is probably the kind of thing that comes with trying to play her and seeing what works; I'm just (maybe irrationally) worried about diving in unprepared, aha.

But yeah, anyway, thanks for this! Regardless of whether you have anything else to add.

I'm glad to help! I guess I should start by asking if you know which route you're taking her from? I would definitely grasp onto whatever you can from the Heisuke route and the OVAs - especially how she tries to blend in to every day life in Kyoto and her relationship with Kimigiku.

The OVAs do add a bit more to her, but also raise a few more questions, unfortunately...there's really not much we know about her outside of her arrival in Kyoto, and her being with Kimigiku starting at a young age (?? I need to canon review for that point).

I'd be happy to go unanon if you'd like to run things by me as you write them, and I have a few friends that have played Sen or are playing Sen currently that might be able to weigh in as well? She's such a great character and I wouldn't let her mysterious history (which I would address in your application) deter you!

I haven't decided definitively on a route yet, though I'm leaning a little against the Heisuke route and maybe towards somewhere earlier in the game (i.e., before the routes branch). Heisuke's route is great for establishing her character, but I'm not so interested in playing her from that specific scenario.

Hm, okay. I can't really comment on those until I've watched through the OVAs, but that sounds like useful if sparse information, and I'll take what I can get.

I really appreciate the offer! I should clarify, though -- I'm not planning to apply for her, or at least not before I've got more of a handle on playing her, so I don't have to worry about an application. Just whatever might come up in actual roleplaying, which I miiiight be overpreparing for by this point. I'd naturally be thrilled to have help on figuring her out more, but don't feel any pressure; you've already helped plenty.

Pulling her from common route would certainly pose as more of a challenge, but I think as long as you have a solid hold on her motivations (making sure Chizuru isn't locked into the same forced path/obligations/oni community that Sen herself is in) you'll be just fine!

Yeah; it might be less of a definitive place character-wise, but I like not being a specific route enough that I think I can deal with that. Thanks for the encouragement, and I think I'll take you up on one of those offers whenever I get an account for her set up! :>
