i play from a canon that has barely any other active players on this site, so i’ve been relying on tagging out cross-canon on bakerstreet to get my fix. it was to my understanding that dreamwidth roleplay is all about cross-canon with the way the games are structured, but it feels like this is no longer the case? for the last month i’ve returned to this website, i have had a lot of starters sit untouched and a lot of dropped threads without prior notice within such a short amount of time. it’s actually pretty interesting.

i’ll admit i’m not the biggest fan of cross-canon myself which is why i’ve been avoiding games, but i’m thinking maybe it’s time for me to join one! orrr, should i cut my losses and go somewhere else? i used to be a major flake so I Get It, but having structure, consistency, and some level of communication would be nice! do you guys have any suggestions?

otherwise smut games are exactly like any other primarily cr-driven game. there won't be much metaplot so it's all about being proactive and branching off who you know.

Commenting again about this as I'm still slowly refining the contents of the comm! Someone on the last post commented that I needed to include the definition of powergamer, amongst other things, and for that one I'm not entirely sure what it means. Is it the same as a highlander? (Which, now that I'm thinking of it, I should probably also include.)

I've not heard "highlander" used in rp, but I'm guessing it's similar. Power gamer, min-maxer. They want their character to be the strongest ever. In D&D, they focus on perfecting their build/stats and tend to ignore story/roleplaying. In rp it would be similar, always wanting their character to win/be the best.

In rp, this can overlap with meta gaming, where you let your character know/use ooc knowledge they shouldn't have to come out on top. I think they're probably separate terms, but players that do one often do the other. Some people use them interchangeably though.

I've been seeing complaints here and there, it seems like they're being spotty. I've even seen someone comment they're not getting alerts in the DW inbox OR email.

You and a friend are opening a game. It does fairly well, a decent amount of apps for its opening, but you notice that one or two of your prospective players has you blocked on plurk. You know this for certain.

You have interacted twice at most. In some cases, never at all. You've never even heard of them outside of seeing them get s in a mutual's plurks.

You are not an anonymous mod. You are head mod.

How do you handle this? Let the friend play messenger? Use the mod plurk to get around their blocks so you can answer their questions? Refuse to let them in because of a dozen different issues that could come up re: blocking a game's mod and explain why? Simply decline them with no explanation?

it IS possible they aren't aware you're head mod, i rarely go look at the mod page if i'm being honest. it also may be that they blocked you for a reason you're not aware of. that being said, you're in an impossible position, because the block made it clear they didn't want to interact with you, and now you're in a position of power and responsibility.

i would pm them in case they weren't aware who was modding and inform them of who you are and that you're trying to be respectful of their choice to block you, but that will be impossible in this game.

outside of that you are under zero obligation to allow anyone into your game and if you're uncomfortable with the fact they blocked you for no reason you know, you shouldn't let them in.

I do a service project of writing to elderly people in care homes and I've been writing letters for week now but never got around to posting them. This morning I finally got addresses and sent out 39 letters!! It felt like a if accomplishment.

general pmdd misery made worse by disappointment. i've been playing this pos gacha for weeks, and this week i really focused on completing the dailies so i could unlock a 500 (currency) reward

somehow, someway, after all that time/effort... my weekly achievement is stuck at 61/63 meaning i get fuck all

i sent in an email, but i'm most likely going to drop the game. it just sucks cause i'm not going to spend real money on this crap gacha, so i was really looking forward to that dopamine hit of spending the free currency

Why don't more player hopefuls tag each other on TDMs?

this is my current experience in a tdm, in order:

- got more tags than i thought i was going to get on my top level, now i'm on the hook for multiple threads. i have enough on my plate, don't want to spread myself thinner

- the other hopefuls are not compatible with mine (M/M vs. F/F, mismatched themes/kinks, fit their DNI)

- want to prioritize characters who are already in the game and hopefuls who are likely to apply

- the other hopefuls got plenty of tags, don't want to add to their plate

- the other hopefuls top leveled and bounced (it's been days, they haven't answered the tags they did get) and i need this thread for an app sample

- the other hopefuls don't interest me

When is it too late to tag into a TDM?

Assuming you mean for topleveling here! I think it also depends on whether you're tagging in intending to app, or just to voice test/meme/mess around because the answer to the latter is 'whenever'. But that's not a very useful answer so I'll again assume you mean intending to app:

If you have friends in the game you know will tag you if you toplevel, any time is fine if you know they'll be able to bang out a thread in time for you to submit samples.

If you're a complete unknown and feeling out the game, I feel like after the first weekend after a tdm goes up, most players have probably loaded up on the threads they're likely to do and aren't necessarily going to check back to see who else has top leveled after that. And then for certain once the cutoff for being able to app in a round passes you might not get much interest anymore. You could try tagging out to other players on the tdm and maybe get some bites back that you could use next round but it's probably better to catch the spark of interest when the next tdm is new.
