This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. thinking about joining a smut game for the first time and i'm all nerves! anons got any advice for me or just general tips?

go in expecting everyone to be poly and don't make it weird

otherwise smut games are exactly like any other primarily cr-driven game. there won't be much metaplot so it's all about being proactive and branching off who you know.

seconding go in expecting poly, and also to have a kink & permissions page(s) set up. be good about communicating with others, whether it's planning smut scenes or telling other players no.

don't be afraid to reach out to the mods asap if someone's breaking the rules or making you uncomfortable. any wanky behavior gets 100% more deranged when there's smut involved.

don't be afraid to not immediately want to pigeonhole yourself by committing to a ship, either.

look at the taken list and comb through everyone's permissions and kink lists. you do not want to learn the hard way that you will not be smut-compatible with most of the game. some examples of what i mean:

1. the character you want to app is barely 18 years old, but more than half of characters will only thread smut with partners who are 20+.

2. you want to thread smut with female characters, but you don't want to thread with teens, and the majority of female characters in the game are under 20.

3. you play a violent character who can regenerate and getting to play hard kink is important to you, but only 5 people in the game have gore in their "yes" column and only 3 of them have compatible preferences. (keep in mind that all three of these characters may drop within months of you joining.)

do not join a sex game if you're not comfortable playing in an environment where dubcon/noncon happens. even if you play a sex-positive character who will gladly fuck without the jamjar gods telling them to, they will still be surrounded by dubcon in the form of characters ingesting aphro and being put in uncomfortable situations.

the dubcon/noncon thing is a big point. my worst sex game experience was a consensual thread that the character later said was nonconsensual because they had an event effect going on. be very very very clear with people that you aren't ok with that sort of thing if you're not.

this seems less an issue of someone not being honest about their discomfort with noncon, and more an issue of someone wanting their character to be victimized so badly that they're willing to retcon a consensual thread into a noncon thread to make it happen.

i'm not sure there's any surefire way to avoid a situation like this, other than to look really closely for red flags. does the other player like making their character a victim so they can be comforted by their cr? are they always starting ic drama? if so i wouldn't attempt to play any sort of darker kinks with them, but you can't always tell these things.

seconding seeing the permissions for people because if you have an under 18 there will be people who refuse to smut with them. i would just look around people's smut lists to see if you vibe with what appears to be popular.

and DO NOT under any circumstances go into a smut game with the intention of a monogamous ship. emotionally is fine, but the point of the game is to be down to clown and it almost always ends in disaster.

poly =/= open relationships

while poly ships (both in smut and not smut games) have become more common in dwrp the last few years, the most common thing in smut games is still open ships. aka serious relationship with just one person but they both fuck whoever

definitely don't expect monogamy in a smut game though, op does need to hold onto that
