This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. that's why i said i don't play in crau games. i do realize this and i specifically do exactly what you say: i do not play with them

"you can still play in the game and avoid the craus" - if it's a game setting then it might end up being my castmate. or my character might hear about the bullshit because we have mutual cr.

if a shitty ooc castmate deliberately contradicts canon i can (typically) correct them and report to the mods if they're an ass about it. if a crau is telling my character about their omega slick trick they gained from their previous game and it's a castmate? i have to decide whether to drop or if pretending that castmate doesn't exist and asking them not to tag me is worth it

Golden Peacock had a uterass CRAU on one or two of the TDMS. YMMV since it was a sex game to sex game CRAU, but I'd find "my ass was transformed into a monster breeding factory" difficult to play off of if it wasn't a development that happened in-game.

i think i remember that character and remembered going wtf because they only ever sounded like a walking sex doll instead of an actual person.

it's a rare use case in my experience of it getting that bad, but it does take me out when it does.

i feel it's worse in smutty/sex directed games. a lot of people like to keep their ships, so they crau hop from one to the other and figure out ways to keep mechanics that make them weird. like the hivemind thing from one game into another. i've come across a handful that have either been like that, or the 'i knew you in another time/know stuff about you/hate your character from past interactions/love your character from past interactions' and this weird idea that you have to bear the burden of their old cr with a different character version.

some people are also just really invested in THAT VERSION of their character, so yes, there are people that have kept x character for 10+ years jumping around crau and keep meticulous records on how old they are now, what abilities they have/had taken, and they have this decade long lore about a character that is literally no longer recognizable as a canon character at this point. but hey, it's a crau friendly game, so you're stuck with them. and dear god, do some of them get salty as fuck when you decline to play along or opt out of cr with them because you don't like this version of your castmate that is unrecognizable. i'm not going to name names, but there are some obvious versions of characters that have been twisted from canon versions and they like to game hop.

i haven't had any smut game mishaps with craus like examples mentioned, but other things...

most recent example: i was in a game as a lcw for a few months. a couple canon mates app'd in with craus from multiple games for each character. one was alright and didn't have cr with my guy in previous games, but they did trauma dump on my guy about cr with castmates in the previous games. which was a lot. and very confusing for my character who never experienced or had knowledge of any of these events they were rehashing.

the other one was... very hard to work around. i was on hiatus when they tdm'd, and i hadn't checked the taken page to see who had app'd in or anything. so i didn't actually know they had app'd or that they were a crau until a few days later. they tagged my network post and were immediately hostile. these characters have a mutually respectful relationship in canon during what little screen time they have together, so i was really caught off guard. turns out, my character in one of their previous games got into a relationship with one of their relatives and the relative is married in canon. and they were taking their anger about it out on my character. no prior discussion, no giving me a heads up, just immediately going in on my dude with the insults and attitude, and i was so confused. i messaged them to ask what was up and they explained.

i had to tell the player i couldn't thread with them anymore if this was going to be the dynamic they have. they got upset and kept insisting we could thread out them working through their issues even though i told them no because they weren't my character's issues to work through. they threw a fit, and i could only get them off my back by telling them i'd think on how we could make it work. i ended up dropping not long after when i found out another couple castmates with craus from the same games as the others were trying to app as well.

i had another instance where i played someone who had a secret identity in canon, and they hadn't told anyone about it or their double life in game (and i had no plans of having them do so). a crau tagged them addressing them by their other alias and basically treating him like he was their bestie and had told a couple other characters about mine (and his secret life) as well. no discussion beforehand. the player said they didn't see what the issue was but agreed not to do that anymore. i still opt'd out of future cr with them.

ymmv with CRAUs but my experiences have... not been ideal. i've had other issues as well, but those have been the most recent ones within the last year.

i also know of a few people who have craus that are at least 2 - 3 games worth of cr on them. i'm not in games with them anymore, but they talk about them fairly often on plurk.

it really boils down to people who have been subjected to really shitty cr with bad craus not exactly being thrilled with either craus or players who haven't been through that (or like the challenge) dismissing their valid experiences as petty bitching. when crau ruins an entire canon for you, it's kind of a kick to the balls to have someone come in and be all 'not MY crau'. well, i don't know that, barbera. maybe, maybe not. but some experiences leave such a bad taste in one's mouth, they don't want to extend the courtesy to others to try to change it.

this is very #notallcraus. sure, logistically we know that, but there's enough that have that make it not ridiculous to feel some kind of way about it. jumping in super aggressively doesn't exactly change opinion.

same here and i've played with a lot of crau characters. all of them were fine and none of them were any weirder than shit i'd seen from characters who had been in their games for a couple of years.

replying with this kind of defensiveness to "genuinely can't stand CRAUs", which is a pretty common opinion because 95% of them are mediocre to terrible, seems indicative of you being the exact kind of person they're talking about tbh
