Has anyone else played Ena: Dream BBQ? It's a wonderful little throwback to weird '90s adventure games. There probably isn't enough canon for RP, though.

It's got a youtube series attached to it as well! the Ena in the game is different than that Ena, but digging through the comments on the yt series' vids people say there's actually a set canon/universe starting to crop up under all the surrealist stuff thanks to the game. and tbh, people play commander shepard or the inquisitor from dragon age so I'm sure you could find a place to put Ena once the other game eps drop

either way, you're not the only one eying Ena in a game somewhere once more canon drops!

hell yeah, found it through one of my fav lpers and i was entranced by the weird but enthusiastic style of it all. love the wildly different styles of animation and general va work with all the languages. the business sass rizz of this ena's also great lmao

it's neat too bc on first parse the npc dialogue seems like mostly pure surreal nonsense, but as time with the game goes on it all actually starts making a dream logic sort of sense in retrospect. there's a narrative in there, the building blocks are just such bizarre shapes lol

there might not be enough canon yet but the rp might be fun?? i'd probably tag an ena if she ever appeared on bs! she'd fit right in with the anything-goes energy of some memes maybe idk

I made a journal for her! I honestly cannot wait for more of Dream BBQ so throwing her at randoms on bakerstreet will have to do for now.

I know nothing of dream bbq but as someone who plays a handful of random internet horror characters i say cheers and have fun!! i'll keep an eye out for you 👀

i just came back from seeing the movie in theaters and man, i'm kinda inspired to get into the game and maybe pick up a muse (we'll see who speaks to me...)

haven't played the game so i don't know about the narrative at all, but i am very familiar with vocaloid and i have seen a lot of the characters on social media, this movie was the icing on the cake to get me to download.

what did you guys think? what muses are out there? anyone looking for a particular muse to bounce off of?

I’m a day 1 player of pjsk, and while I don’t RP from it I can tell you a bit about the story. Since the game is about to hit its 3.5 year anniversary in English, it’s got a lot of story to read. The way the game works, there was a core “main story” that gives you the basic setup for each group and tells you how they formed up, then each event story builds on the story chronologically from there. 3 event stories come out a month and they typically have 8 chapters (sometimes more).

Because of this, my advice to any new player is to not try to read every story in order (unless you just REALLY like reading). I would read the main stories from each group to get a feel for them and see who you like and who don’t care as much about, then go to the event stories and filter by your favorite group, then read the ones marked Key Stories. These will get you the main plot points for the group you want to know more about. After that you can read mixed events if they interest you (mixed events are usually just there for fun character interactions across the groups, though sometimes they’re important).

As for characters I’ve seen around, the girls from Nightcord and the boys from WonderlandsxShowtime seem to be the most popular. I would love to see more around though!

sounds like narratives are split up pretty easily between groups so this is a huge win for me; reading and world building is great but i have a hard time keeping everything straight if there's a lot going on with multiple groups.

it doesn't look too far off from other idol gachas i have experience with (llsif/imas ss/enstars) gameplay wis so also happy to see some familiarity. very excited!

based on the movie i'm really interested in ichika, saki, and an as muses. we'll see if that still sticks, thanks a lot for the tips anon!

Yes, thankfully they do a good job of dividing things up! Most (maybe all actually? Not totally sure) key stories are the Group Event stories, and those are wholly focused on one group - at most, other characters make brief cameos, but you don’t have to know what’s happening with, say, More More Jump to read Leo/Need’s stories.

Mixed events are usually also written such that you don’t have to know specifics about every group involved, as long as you at least know the general vibe of that group. They will occasionally mention specific events, but it’s easy enough to understand from context even if you aren’t caught up with the other group’s story. I do think, as you come to decide on a character, it would be good to at least read the mixed events that heavily feature that character (usually the ones picked as the 4 star cards). They’re a great place to learn more about the characters’ lives outside their respective music group. For example, if you chose Saki as a muse, you’d want to read the Tenma Doll Festival event because it does a great deep dive into her relationship with her brother Tsukasa.

ALL THAT SAID, pace yourself and don’t stress! This fandom has so much story to read that no one here cares if you get some detail wrong because it’s in a random mixed event or locked behind a 2 year old card story. It’s very chill.

If you’re familiar with enstars you’ll do fine! Honestly I think pjsk’s story is far more accessible but it helps that it’s not split between multiple apps haha

Also as a gameplay note, be sure you at least open and skip through event stories while the event is happening so you get the 50 crystals for reading each chapter. You can skip and get the rewards, you just have to do it while the event is live.
