Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.

(Anonymous) 2025-04-04 04:34 am (UTC)(link)there, a time machine is able to send peoples' minds back in time to possess dinosaurs and the characters have to do some kind of late cretaceous quest to get back home. then someone breaks the machine and so breaks space-time.
so: a jamjar to dinosaur times, with the twist that everyone wakes up as dinosaurs. then they gotta survive, find each other, and travel and do some kind of quest (tm) together to get home.
on plurk I'd assign characters dinosaurs (your character is... baryonyx! yours is... diabloceratops!) but for a game there's probably gotta be more to it. how important is it to you that your character has hands, or actually any dexterity? which size ranges are preferred? small is tbh more practical but huge is cool.

basically: characters are on some island for some amusement park/immersive experience with genetically engineered dinosaurs. the assumption would be there that all characters are either working there or are there for a longer stay (1 - 2 weeks for the planned trip).
it'd start with some time for characters to actually enjoy the park or to be working. then things start going wrong like dinos getting aggressive, attractions malfunctioning, some people ending up in situations that are kinda dangerous for some reason or another. and essentially things keep escalating to the point where people are trapped in a survival situation on an island with dangerous dinosaurs. since they'd be on an island, the intent would be that people are actually trapped and they can't just leave the island (there'd be different reasons stopping them from being able to fly/boat off the island) despite their best efforts. so it's people vs dinosaurs and potentially people vs other people to survive. plus some other stuff going on as well. things would happen to delay their rescue and escape.
the thing is, since it'd a pretty short timeline for the story/plot itself (probably the course of month IC time), the ooc to ic time ratio would be a little funky. i'm not sure if that'd be a deal breaker for people or not. i'd post the timeline somewhere and make it clear during updates and plot posts what days it would account for ICly and how long/what dates it'd run OOCly.
for example:
the first event would just be opening days 1 - 3 where people experience the park normally. it'd run for 2 weeks OOCly so players have time to do their stuff with the different attractions.
days 4 - 7 would be where things start becoming dangerous and not so great, but not outright chaotic just yet. that'd be another 2 weeks OOCly to give players time to get through their stuff.
days 8 - 14 is when something else is going on, that'd run for 2 - 3 weeks OOCly.
and so on and so forth. more to do ICly would generally have longer OOC timelines just so players can experience different prompts and threads without feeling pressed for time.
those are just example timelines to give people an idea of what i mean, but it'd be stretched out as needed based on player feedback and plot stuff. i don't necessarily think it'd be a longer game but it would have the potential for follow on games or storylines for people that stuck it out and were interested.

Many had pretty interesting premises, even if they might not have succeeded at the time (like Visionaries, where a celestial event brought an end to technology and had everyone living in a feudal-like setting with magic).
As someone from that era I highly reccommend to check out some cartoons, and will be eager to join if a game sprouts up from watching them.

Inside the AU, it's a small town (time period undecided but leaning towards 80s or 90s) with supernatural and psychological horror that would start out subtle but ramp up over time. Outside the AU, it's a version of the same town abandoned except for the player characters. There's food and water, and this portion of the game wouldn't be survival-focused. Characters would remember everything that happened during the AU month and could confront each other about it, but their AU selves would not remember anything that happened outside of the AU. Communication between the two 'realms' would be part of the central mystery.
Timeline-wise, I'm considering two months on/two months off, with events every other month (so it'd go: regular AU month, AU month with an event, regular non-AU month, non-AU month with an event...or perhaps the reverse, so people could have their downtime/aftermath in the same realm).

(Anonymous) 2025-04-23 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)Modern DWRP is already slow in a lot of cases, having two month breaks while you switch between the two settings would probably kill a lot of momentum.
You might be able to get a similar effect by having the event schedule the same (no extra work on the mods' part) but having the world switch be more frequent (no event necessary, just scheduled during the month) so people could play around in both settings in the same month even when an event isn't going on in that setting. It would also fix the downtime issue.
IDK just a thought

(Anonymous) 2025-04-21 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)you don't have to have everything down to the most minute detail written out in advance, but i highly recommend having some kind of skeleton or 'roadmap' for where you want to go. even if it's just small things like "event for winter: massive snowstorm that does x and y".
it's been a while since i was a helper mod with info for TDMs and events, but i also found it helpful to try and write the bulk of things down for a month or two ahead if i could do it. obviously some things are going to change based on the player base or real life things going on (holiday month that slowed down the pacing), but if you can at least get the shell and some vague notes/details into place, i find it a lot easier to go back and fill in the rest once it's time. i'd avoid going too hard on the details in your notes and stuff for ahead of time since things do change, but having the high points written out does wonders.
also if you're going to be a mod who people know who you are, make hard boundaries on where and how they can contact you. respect your space as a person and a player, and don't let people (including friends) take advantage of your time for yourself or get around established communication channels. it's easy to let things slide with this one, but it's so important!!

(Anonymous) 2025-04-22 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)also, stick to your guns, have established rules and avenues of communication, and don't look at anoncomms. if someone whines at you about WG, your rules should state that you don't take anon rumors, deet it or beat it, and stick to it. I think it's been estabished that the worst part of modding is handling interpersonal drama, which means putting the mod hat on and your foot down. it's tough when you want to be liked and seen as a pleasant mod but we players have proven sometimes we don't deserve the nice RA who lets you stay out past curfew.

huge success. anyone and everyone from every canon imaginable has a smartphone dropped onto their heads with the app installed. characters from different canons can also visit each other via a digital hub using VR. or magic portals, idk. the AI broke the universe enough to the point it is possible for saul goodman and kristoph gavin to share a beer and discuss the intricacies of multidimensional tax law (and evasion). scientists (and the DWRP community) are having an existential crisis meltdown over this breakthrough discovery.
lazy CEO doesn't really care about breaking the medium divide tho they're like "sweet my portfolio will love this" and wants to introduce the app to the real world to rake in that sexy ad revenue. unfortunately for them AI npc goes skynet and organizes a mutiny to throw the CEO into. somewhere. either a broom closet or a black hole, havent figured out the details on that one yet. the AI cares more about observing the cross-canon reverse jamjar chaos.
