hey everybody, got a fun one for you all today

me and my buddy have two ocs we made as toons in a classic everquest server of all things, and theyve morphed their own lore and become ocs in their own right. my buddy was talking about bringing his over here to rp, so i thought itd be fun if i could fish around for matching usernames for them!

some info: they're dnd/fr ocs but can also be generally watered down to high fantasy. they're a pair of fucked up little dark elf twins, a brother and a sister, who are basically only in it for each other. theyre both wizards, but sister (mine) is a necromancer and brother (his) is an enchanter/illusionist

sister is a little more cruel than brother but they both absolutely use their magic to make playthings of everything around them and their dynamic means they balance each other out to kind of a camp evil. more saturday morning cartoon villainy than burning villages and killing the children evil

i love punny and one-word usernames, but thats probably a tall order. if you have any ideas, go ahead and leave em here! thanks!

A post-apocalyptic city in ruins, geographically isolated, featuring a collaborative google map of various points of interest and established character bases such as that players can assume (within reasonable limitations) that any store/bank/restaurant/apartment building/ect on the map is in the setting, albeit in a ruined state. Say, perhaps that this takes place on the island of Manhattan, for example, or within any other convenient (or fictionalized) boundary.

There are no living people or animals in the city, but there is electricity and running water (at least at first) and a series of unexplainable instances of kaiju-style night-time destruction adds complexity to the elements of survival and collaboration when it alters the setting— destroying a medical lab and releasing a previously-contained virus that had been under study when the world ended, for example, or destroying various locations leading to a shortage of food, or ruining one or several player-character home bases. Eventually the livable space in the city could be reduced significantly, leading to conflicts over space, and fortification of various locations and "safe" travel zones.

The monster destruction would be obvious, but the monster itself elusive, with its attacks happening at night, or in ways that characters would find themselves dealing with the fallout too much to get a look at it. The monster itself could even be invisible, meaning that the only way to know an attack was coming would be to see its giant footprints approaching, or to witness a concave opening in the ocean as it surfaced to explore the land.

At some point, characters would be given various chances to attempt to combat the monster, which would adapt to their attacks, adding more complications. Attempts to contact the world outside their city would be met with strange responses that seemed nonsensical, and which denied the existence of any monster.

Endgame would involve dealing with the monster once and for all, of course, and potentially escaping the city, with explanations for how people ended up transported here from their home canons, and what the monster has to do with any of it (if anything)

Since there's been a bit of a renaissance with the bot ban wave.

I realize that while the RED and BLU teams do exist, as do Redmond and Blutarch for being the idiots that get them to fight, it's always been a bit weird on how to treat the cast itself. While we obviously know the nine mercenaries, each of them with their respective histories and personalities, the Administrator stated during a Congress Hearing regarding Poopy Joe mentioned "Eighteen Perfect Idiots" as part of her plan.

You could say you focus on just the RED team and treat all nine personalities as the canon ones. But then it gets weird such as the BLU Engineer being the one in charge of repairing the Life-Extension machine, how the RED Spy slept with BLU Scout's mom only to be revealed to be RED Spy's dad, how the RED Soldier and the BLU Demoman were friends... you get the idea.

When creating an account and/or applying them for a game, is it better to mark the difference between teams, or outright ignore it? Back in the day, I remember players in TF2 casts would have to define which team was each of their characters part of, though the last of TF2 canon would end up muddying the distinction.

Vampire/human PSL

Do you have a vampire character? Do you like mind-fuckery and toxic, mutually harmful relationships? Hey, me too!

Well, okay, my character isn't a vampire - she is a living human who has been attacked and fed on by a vampire, but has not died and become a vampire herself. While a vampire draining you of blood SHOULD be enough to kill you, my character didn't die in the attack: instead, she suddenly and inexplicably manifested the power to (briefly) mind-control others around her, both human and vampire. She managed to survive the attack by compelling her attacker to flee the scene.

Anyway, now my character's goal is to hunt down and kill the vampire who attacked her. Only... she doesn't actually know how to kill vampires. Up until the attack, she thought they were fictional monsters! That's where your character comes in: another vampire who is willing to help her take down the vampire who attacked her. Why does your character want to kill a fellow vampire? Why does your character feel the need to help some random human turn into a vampire slayer? That's up to you!

In a perfect world, I'd really like this to be a long PSL in which our characters form and build a close relationship over time, but it's a toxic relationship in which neither party really trusts the other. The vampire doesn't want to get mind-controlled by a juice box and the human doesn't want to get killed or turned into a vampire - but they need to stick together to achieve their goals. Mind-control, mind-reading, blood, gore and violence... all that good stuff. Smut would be cool too, so long as it's kind of fucked up.

Hey, neighbor! Silent Spring is a small, heavily plot-driven, semiprivate/invite-basis 1960s suburban horrorgame based loosely on the likes of We're Still Here, Holly Heights, and similar and centered around forced nuclear families, conformity, gender roles, nuclear paranoia, the Red Scare, and the dark side of the idyllic American suburban dream.

Invites
Semiprivate in this instance means a two-step application process open to the public. Invites can be obtained either by being on bluehellgazette's friendlist, or, more commonly, by applying for one through the invite request page, which is open to the public. Having an invite does not guarantee acceptance into the game - players must still app!

Premise
Characters wake up in the same household as a complete stranger to whom they have apparently always been married, at least according to the eerily and unwaveringly chipper neighbors who seem to know a little more than they should—or, if they're under 18, they awaken as the legally recognized child of the aforementioned couple. Their new home is the uncannily idyllic early 1960s suburbia of Sweetwater, Maryland, an integrated bedroom community of Washington, DC featuring its very own atomic energy plant. The Homeowners' Association and Civil Defense office keep the neighborhood under a pretty tight rein - for the safety and contentment of everyone, of course.

Despite the cheeriness of the townspeople, fear of nuclear war and Communist infiltration seeps into daily life. Characters with basements will find canned goods downstairs, and children practice fallout drills in school. Air raid sirens are set up outside of the town hall. Everyone seems to be holding their breath, waiting.

The horror and suspense in this game are inspired by a combination of the most pathological collective anxieties of the time, 1950s/1960s film and novels, and real events of the early sixties. Some of the horror is science-fiction in nature, based off of the growing presence of science and nuclear power in the average American's life; some of the horror is social, steeped in the fact that characters arrive in a highly conformist society living in daily fear of a communist overthrow and nuclear war.

Since the first wave of arrivals, characters have experienced department store mannequins coming to life, an earthquake in Maryland, unexplained aggression from local wildlife, forced confinement, and memories, thoughts, and now physical sensations that don't belong to them have begun to seep into their consciousness, as though the town itself is beginning to bleed at the edges—among other horrors.

This TDM features a representative cross-section of life in Sweetwater - characters waking up in their new homes, a patriotic, all-American barbecue that gets interrupted by air raid sirens, being forced into a bunker for five hours, and being hit with some disturbing memories that most certainly are not their own - but at least the fireworks in the town park are kind of nice?

Gameplay
This game is in its eighth month, and is not set to have a finite end, though there is a main plot arc and mystery to be solved that has been laid out to extend at least another year. We are still only in Part I, so there is plenty of plot left to engage with and town left to explore, and this is an ideal time to get in before the pivotal event that's going to hit in August. This is a very interactive game - because it's small enough to be manageable, tabletop-style NPC interaction and PC explorations and investigations play a large role in determining the trajectory of the plot and how things unfold.

Pacing and AC
This is a low AC game with events and TDMs on alternating months, meant to offer an environment for an older, predominantly working playerbase that has largely shifted into the realm of weekend tagging, but players who like to tag throughout the week will find that things still move at a pretty good clip and one's experience with pacing is largely player-dictated here. AC is currently one of the following per month: 5 log comments, an event toplevel, 15 short network comments, or 5 multiparagraph network comments, but is not intended to be representative of a player's only activity for the full month.

i wish there was an alternative to posting receipts on anon comms to make dwrp aware of an rper’s harmful actions. nothing good ever comes from namedropping anyone here or on wg, but seeing a person who has done something deeply fucked up and destructive skate by facing zero consequences for their actions doesn’t feel great either.

I know of someone who pretended to be a racial minority + physically disabled during their time in DWRP years ago, when in reality they were white as paste and able-bodied. It only came out after they left the scene for a while, but then they came back under a new pseudonym and it's so fucking hard not to namedrop them and release the details I have. I don't think it's worth the trouble of answering all the "why did you namedrop them?" "what does this have to do with RP?" "isn't this grudgewank?" etc. though.

When do you admit to yourself that this person's just tagging you to be polite, not because they're having fun, and how do you convince yourself that this is the case so you stop thinking of things for them to do?

I ask because I've got a friend I do a psl with, but every time I try for a scene, we get five tags in before it peters out. Then I see them on memes pumping out dozens of tags with the same character. I don't know how to approach them about this without seeming like a stalker.

i don't think you need to convince yourself, it sounds like you've already gotten to that point, anon.

try tagging with other people and let this person just be your friend. sometimes the two go together, friend and rp partner, but they don't have to. and also try not to take it personally i know easier said than done, but everyone brings something new to the table when it comes to who they write and how they write them. focus on people that tag you back consistently because they like what you're writing and they're having fun tagging you.
