Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

How common is deleting a tag that didn't get a response in a thread after a few weeks? Does it look strange or risk being seen as "wanky" to delete?

i won't lie, i've been tempted to do this before, but self-reflection made me stop because like... why? either no one will see/notice the tag-in is gone, in which case why bother deleting, or someone will see/notice the tag is gone, and what other reason would there be for deleting other than to make some sort of statement? while not necessarily wanky, but it is a touch more over-invested than i am personally comfortable showing.

if it's a matter of wanting to reuse the tag somewhere else, you can do that without deleting. nobody's going to get buttmad on the tiny chance they even notice.

i've tagged people who have done this to me (in that case they deleted it after a few days before i even had a chance to read it properly because i was busy irl, which they were well aware of, they just became impatient/too anxious to let it sit)

those incidents have stuck in my memory. i'm wary of tagging that person now because i don't know if they'll just get upset at something in their head and decide to delete the tag out of the blue. if they'd just left it i would have tagged it. or i would have talked to them about trying a new thread when i was less busy. as it is now they're "that player who deletes tags" in my head

if someone did that to me i would take note of it and not tag them again because to me that's a pretty clear message that they don't want to play with me.

I'm chuckling at the insinuation here that it's somehow unusual or strange for an RPer to remember and reflect on tags that are (gasp!) a couple weeks old.

some people think it looks passive aggressive. i've done it before when i realized i tagged someone whose prefs did not match mine after all and i know people who'll do it because they don't have time/brains to thread anymore and don't want the person they tagged to waste their own time on a thread they know they won't come back to

i've done it before for mismatched preferences i failed to read or if i was cleaning up my thread tracker and noticed that a tag hasn't been replied to for more than a month.

in those cases i just have no interest in pursuing that thread anymore and just like cleaning up.

Other anons seem to be making a way bigger deal of this than it is. I think expecting someone to wait weeks for you to express interest is the weird thing, actually.

If someone deleted a tag I was excited about I would simply apologize for the delay and ask if they were still interested in a thread.

if I care enough to follow up with a tag 4-6 weeks later or w/e, I care enough to drop a line and ask about it

otherwise I probably wouldn't even notice you deleted a tag in the first place because that requires me checking the thread, and if I left it that long I probably forgot/don't care/don't want to tag you

i don't think anyone here is expecting the other person to get back to op weeks later, more that it just seems a smidge overinvested to go back to a thread that's clearly not advancing and deleting the comment. it's giving 'i broke up with you first' energy to someone who already ghosted them. they can delete it, but... why bother? what is it going to achieve or communicate?

this is fanfic. it takes almost no effort to open links in my thread tracker and see if it's my turn or not. if someone hasn't replied to me for ages or has skipped my tag, or if i've changed my mind on feeling a certain prompt or meme, it's two seconds to delete the tag and move on. i'm not thinking about it again.

if YOU choose to ignore tags for weeks then decide someone has "broken up" with you when they delete one... you are the weird one i fear.

i've seen some meme only players who do, and i kind of assume it's so they can find threads they enjoyed before easily, or a directory for samples if they join a game.

haven't done it because of a delay in replying. i've had people tag back after 2 months before so there is always hope!

i have deleted meme tagins when the person i tagged has replied more than once to others who tagged them but ignored me. very clear that they're not interested in me/my character and i guess i feel a bit embarrassed when that happens. irrational of me because it's more honest than a couple of low-effort pity tags and then a drop but there we are.

i don't think embarrassment is irrational, anon. sometimes you just don't want to bother the other person and making the tag go away is a bandaid.

if it makes you feel better, I once had someone PM and ask me to delete my tag in.

that bruised my ego enough that I stopped tagging out at all for a few months, figuring I couldn't annoy anyone that badly if I only topleveled.

had the same experience once, asked to delete straight up instead of just leaving it alone. it was a DNI, though I was admittedly a little tempted to leave it up anyway. but I did not do that because I am not that much of an asshole.
