a lot of the f/f feels super forced in rwby and frankly if you need three whole seasons to get to "the good part" imo it's not really worth the investment. these days i see a lot more of the dudes floating around so i'd say this is a more of a niche/ymmv rec.

Re: F/F friendly characters/canons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-06 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't rwby season 1 an hour long or something? It's not that huge of an investment compared to a season of pretty much any other show out there.

Re: F/F friendly characters/canons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-06 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
the first 3 seasons are about 1.5 hours all put together, and honestly you can skip the first two if you find you can't stand them. there is a huge tonal shift halfway through 3.

"the f/f is forced" is a weird take if you've watched past volume 3 but shrug. i'm not here to debate or change minds, just here to rec something op might enjoy based on their stated tastes

+1 rwby is one of those canons where a good rper can potentially save a character from their own garbage canon and do them justice on dwrp, but the canon source material is SO inconsistent with their own characters and writing i would personally not bother even if you paid me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJjqH3Vl5bg there's only so much even a very good rper can do (and to be very frank ime many rwby rpers weren't that much of a step above canon), but someone who wants easy shipping material or likes cool fight scenes is welcome to try?

+1

the amount of aggressive whiteknighting in this thread should be proof enough you probably shouldn't bother with the canon or the players.

Regardless of the actual content of the show, a quick look at the only three games I know of with RWBY casts shows me that two of them (Erku and Deerington) have mostly female characters, while the other (Avalon) has entirely female characters, with an overall female to male ratio of 3:1.

Unless there's multiple other games with mostly male casts or a flood of the dudes on memes this doesn't seem like the sort of canon where someone playing a girl is going to get snubbed.

you're right but unfortunately, RWBY is one of those canons where if you say anything positive about it at all, some anon will rush in to piss on your comment

Re: F/F friendly characters/canons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-06 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
it has some positive aspects, but it's also deeply flawed and anyone seeking to pick up a character from it should know that in advance.

Anon what canon do we play from in dwrp isn't deeply flawed?

Anon, OP said they like Warcraft, FF14, Gundam, and the MCU. I'm pretty sure they can handle something like RWBY without turning away in disgust.

indeed all of those things are also poorly written lol

Hot take: it's okay to like something for being entertaining and having elements (fights, characters, etc.) you like

i personally adore rwby and find it enjoyable plotwise, but there's a few anons who hate it and feel the need to tell anyone who mentions it why they think it sucks. i'd really just advise anyone who wants to get into it to try it and see if they like or dislike it rather than assuming they'll have the exact same taste as a random anon.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-06 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
i mean it... does kind of suck and i say that as someone who is also a fan? or was. it really shat the bed in a lot of ways lately and people are right to be pissed about it and to point you may or may not be wasting your time with the turd of a plot and the terrible character arcs.

you're allowed to like flawed canons, but you shouldn't make excuses for them either. a buyer beware is pretty fair in this case.

we get it, you stan an unrepentant villain and/or they killed your fave waifu. let people enjoy things.

Re: F/F friendly characters/canons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-07 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
i mean, you can think that. i don't really see it as flawed, though. while i get you/some people really hate the plot, i really enjoy it. i'm not making an excuse for it - i just honestly think it's a great canon and i've enjoyed each successive season more.

it's cool you don't like it. i don't like some series that a lot of people in dwrp really like and really think are super cool. i find the plots trite or the characters dull. but that doesn't mean everyone feels the same way i do, because a plot i find boring or flawed someone else might find very engaging.

i just think it's mildly dumb that some anons are constantly arguing that rwby is absolutely totally flawed like it's not mostly flawed to them and acting like people genuinely enjoying it is "making excuses".

people like different things. YOU not liking a canon doesn't mean it did things badly for other people.

i mean, you're allowed to like whatever you want. plenty of people still liked GoT by the end. it just doesn't make it any less bad.

You should't expect people to flagellate themselves every time they talk about something either. That's weird.

Re: F/F friendly characters/canons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-07 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
da, but the entire plot has always been a poorly thought-out mess and some of it is downright offensive. it IS really entertaining, though, and as someone who has followed it for a while, i've really come to care for many of the chatacters, especially the main four. really feel like this is the kind of canon you should take what you like from and then fix the rest in your fanworks, without making excuses for the source material.

+1 it is objectively poorly written

we're not saying you can't like something that's poorly written, but, it is poorly written and that deserves a heads up, especially for someone looking to potentially invest their time and rp energy into it

Re: F/F friendly characters/canons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-07 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 and idk why this is so hard to accept

no one said you can't like rwby or whatever other canon. but the fact of the matter is much of the fandom was alienated by INCREDIBLY poor writing decisions and they even completely tanked certain characters for no logical reason at all (cough ironwood cough)

all this hyperdefensiveness is a huge turn-off to a potential player. not really a way convince someone to play from your canon tbh.

Re: F/F friendly characters/canons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-07 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
ironwood has been a fascist since season 2

I was surprised how many people forgot or didn't pick up on that. It ain't subtle.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2021-05-07 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
a lot of the best plot beats in rwby are very slowburn, which means that people with bad memories, and of course people who gave up in earlier seasons, are blindsided by "shocking" and illogical writing decisions that actually aren't that shocking or illogical.

the nature of the project during its early years guaranteed that there would be a lot of writing stumbles, and yeah there sure are a lot of those, but ironwood's arc ain't one of them.

genuine question, is there a vid or write-up or something that motivates this take? because i've only seen them for the opposite, that ironwood was never a fascist until they had to make him one to give him tension with the main cast
