Kink lists.

I’m not sure if they are supposed to be a list of kinks you as a player want to play.

Or if they are supposed to be a list of kinks you think your character would like.

Is it a mixture of both?

Kinks don’t come up in anime so how would you even know what your character is into sexually?

I’m not new to DWRP, just new to writing smut.

I prefer to find a code that includes a section for "my character doesn't want this but I want to play it" - it helps to sort of figure out what you're here to write and why, regardless of character.

that said, idk if there's any sort of standard. personally I try to keep anything labeled as IC to something I feel like would fit the character while not being a hard no for me OOCly. anything I feel like I can't justify based on their setting or personality goes in the "but I want to play it" category. like you say, kinks don't come up in canon so it's pretty safe to say that if you need to put watersports in the hard no section, canon's not going to come out and contradict you.

i always fill them in as a mix of both

stuff that im down to play, and can also justify playing with that particular character, or things that i can extrapolate that they might like based on their personalities/events in canon. for example, i play a character who is extremely insecure canonically and has a big inferiority complex, so i think it makes sense for him to be into praise kink despite that not coming up in canon at all

My kinks list is basically a venn diagram of OOC and IC kinks with yes/always being the overlapping area. If its something that triggers me OOC it's going to end up in the no/never section, no matter what. If it's something that I'm picky or apathetic about but I suspect my character would be into it, its in the sometimes/maybe pile.

I assume others operate like this whether they've considered it or not because I don't know anyone who would leap into a triggery subject for the sake of being IC.

Honestly, while you can certainly tailor it to both, for the most part, your kinklist is OOCly telling other players what you do and don't want to write.

If I play a character who is canonically into Vore, but I don't want to write Vore, I wouldn't include it under "Yes" in my kinklist. Otherwise, a player might ask for a vore thread, and be confused when I say I don't write it.

If I play character who doesn't know a lot about kinks, but would be open to being tied up during sex, and I would want to write it, I would include to under "Yes". This way, other players know it's something I would be open to including in a thread.

If I play a character who wouldn't be into somnophilia, but I love rping somnophilia, I'd include it under "Yes" with an OOC note saying my character would need to be eased into it. This way, other players know I want to write it, and understand it may require special planning with my character.

If I have 20 kinks listed under "Yes" and want to convey which kinks my character is ICly likely to seek out, I mark those kinks with a heart or a star symbol.


As for figuring out IC kinks, that's honestly super subjective, and not necessarily something you can go by personality for. For me, I usually have one or two that I want to write with that character, and then try to go about having them discover these kinks ICly.

For instance, I have a female character I love to write femdom with, but she's never shown in canon to behave like this towards love interests. So I have one thread of her learning about the concept, another where she ends up getting rough with a male partner and enjoying it more than she thought she would, and another where she negotiates trying something new and completely doms her partner, to the delight of both of them.

a mixture. like another anon mentioned i extrapolate based on character canon personalities/fears/desires and try to make the kinks as sensible as possible. i'd interprate a character who lost a loved one to a titan eating them would probably have ptsd from vore and not get a boner from it, for example, so i'd put that under a hard no for that character even if i might personally enjoy writing vore. if i really want to write vore i will do it with a more appropriate character. OR depending on how hard of a no i think it is, i might make a special note on the ptsd character and put it in a maybe column and note something like "player is willing to write, however, character would be opposed and need special circumstances or an au to be into this" or something.

for kinks that can easily swing either way and are ones i personally like to write, i include those in yes columns. kinks i'm indifferent to or need similar caveats go in maybe columns or don't get listed at all.

i will write literally anything since writing kinks does nothing for me personally but there are definitely things that i am not super into or don't understand, or would have a hard time taking seriously; like scat, guro, diapers, flattening, etc. i'll write it but it probably won't sound sexy. i generally put these under "hard no" anyway but i always do include an asterisk that is something like "will consider with extensive discussion" or whatever

i'll be honest; my kink lists are predominantly my ooc i-want-to-write-this. what makes it different from character-to-character is that there are different scenarios i might want to write with particular characters, so those kinks might get ranked higher on the kink list than my baseline if it's an ic kink.

in general, when i use kink lists, i'm looking for what to incorporate into a thread to make it more enjoyable to my partner (slipping in praise or dominance, for example) or what would be mutually fun for us to write out (position or kink-wise). i don't really care if the kink is ic or not; many of the kinks require an au anyway, and the bottom line is that i'll find a narrative excuse to make it happen if it's a favorite kink!

Mainly I would focus my kink list on my OOC interests. But I would also make a note for which kinks are IC favs for my characters. It's so I can do consensual, dubcon and noncon scenarios, and make it easier to start plotting things.

Sometimes I want cute, loving things, other times I want to do trashy hentai worthy things.

In the end, it's what YOU personally want (so "Yes" list) to write and try out (anything you might put down as "Maybe"), and adjust them as you go. Who knows, you might discover a new kink you like, or a certain kink ends up not doing it for you after writing it with someone.

Any combination of:

- lack of confidence in directing scenes
- concerns about coming across as aggressive or predatory
- worry about being pigeonholed into the role forever
- trouble connecting with more traditionally “masculine” characters
- lack of real life sexual experience prompts anxieties about being made fun of for getting it “wrong”, safer to pillow queen

the idea that pillowqueening is easier baffles me. i find it far hard to come up with ways to *lays there* and *moans* without my writing being a broken record.

otoh the amount of moaning pillowqueens is why i don't thread smut with anyone but friends.

As someone who plays characters as switches, I find that when I play with a bottom, there's more focus on sensation in their tags and less action. For tops, it's the opposite. Many people tend to find it easier to write a reaction to an action, but find it hard to push an action forward. So bottoming is easier than topping.

I guess they don't like writing service tops or power bottoms, because I feel they have the same dynamic but with switched positions.

i like writing tops a lot, most of my characters sort of lend themselves to it. i do prefer to have pretty much everyone as switches in case a hook up really calls for my character to bottom, but almost all of them lean toward topping more which is what i prefer anyway. i'm not sure why more people don't want to.

Is there a doc out there that helps explains the general mechanics and terminology of murdergames to people who might be interested in getting into them, the same way there is for people who're interested in DWRP generally? I might be joining a murdergame for the first time this year and there's a lot I don't know about them. Like, I know what mafia/werewolf games are generally and I've played games like Dangan Ronpa before, but how that translates into DWRP, I know very little about, and it looks like it's got its own lingo and norms that'd be good to learn about.

What exactly happened to open museboxes and the whole sixwordstories-esque community? Did some kind of drama drive people off from the concept of posting in open places? Have those kinds of players moved on to another rp site entirely? I haven't looked up from my own little bubble in so long that I must have missed the whole....whatever.
