if they got jealous, i'd see it as a red flag tbh, depending on how they react.

like my otp partner thinks she's not good enough for me because apparently i'm really good (LIES) and it helps that i don't take rp seriously/personally like some other people in our fandom do. but she's not a tantrum-throwing baby about it who constantly cries that she's not good enough for me or that i deserve a better partner or wah wah wah. right now she feels guilty that she's on an rp hiatus and not motivated to rp but she doesn't constantly cry about it and beg for pity parties. i love her anyway and don't mind chatting with her about other stuff until she's motivated to rp again. uwu and if she never feels motivated to rp ever again, that's okay because she's a good friend and we can at least chat about our dumb otp and other fandom stuff.

personally, i wouldn't give a fuck if one of my partners played with other people who played my character. not every (character) player is the same and maybe they'd enjoy seeing the difference between interpretations. or maybe another (character) roleplayer is willing to rp something that i'm not, and that's okay.

being "exclusive" seems pretty common in tumblr rp in my experience and i just don't like the idea of feeling like somebody's "property." if somebody only wants to play with one version of a character, whatever, that's their choice, but "we can only play this ship together!" seems a little possessive to me.

i wouldn't really ask about their threads with the other roleplayer because i wouldn't want to seem too nosy, but if we rp ships together i might joke about (their character)'s harem of (character i play)s.

every player i've known who needed to be my one and only was unsecretly a neurotic mess just waiting for a downward spiral. i've only put up with it in one case; in general it is a red fucking flag. play with anyone you want, just don't flaunt it. (ex: "omg, new player y is my faaaavorite x ever, i could never do anything like this with other x players!!") but that's common sense.

you're not entirely wrong, but you are looking at things through a very narrow, outmoded perspective. since the 90s (at least, that's when the topic of discussion was getting press) the idea of having a normalized representation of homosexuality in mainstream media has absolutely been a topic of concern.

let's talk about manga, specifically, for a moment. even setting aside the debates about yaoi that went on at that time, there was also generally the issue that manga featuring gay characters and their stories (outside of geicomi, i mean, so the less sexual stuff) would only be run in gay magazines and any gay characters being published in mainstream publications were either looked at as fetishization (see the yaoi arguments, linked above) or as insulting jokes designed to further characterize queer men and women and trans folk as freakish perverts and weirdos.

a younger generation of LGBT activists in japan (younger than the one that started all of the original geicomi magazines like barazoku or g-men or adonis) was having a much louder call to be seen as normal, not as private or shameful. you're basically talking about a difference in generational queer sociopolitics in japan, and thinking only the older mindset is still valid or present. things have changed, and have been changing since the 90s.

your entire point hinges on the fact that the "IT'S NOT LIKE THE WEST" was a point made in any kind of good faith. it wasn't.

whether it's a bigger issue or not is entirely subjective, and wasn't the point they were even trying to make. what they were saying was an objective (and untrue) statement that we don't care about representation in Japan. we fucking do. it is a real discussion that is going on as we speak about how queer people, gay, lesbian, whatever, are portrayed in mainstream television, manga, and film. to make a blanket statement that LGBT people in Japan don't care about representation is patently false, and basically trying to use a group of people you know little about as a shield against "sjws".

some of these are western researches looking from the outside, looking at first hand resources. most are based on actual queer voices from the inside. maybe stop assuming japanese queer people don't care about representation and actually study how it's different. listen to our stories, our voices. because right now, you and a lot of other anons are speaking for us, erroneously, and that's not okay if you're taking up this facade of giving a shit about sociopolitics in japan.

is plurk being kind of screwy for anybody else?

nothing major but when i click on plurks that i've read on my timeline, sometimes it won't jump to the last response that i saw. if there are no unread replies or there's only one or two unread replies, it might not scroll down all the way to the bottom. sometimes it won't auto-jump at all and it'll stay at the top of the plurk.

disabling my custom css or adblocker (ublock origin on chrome) didn't help. reopening the plurk seems to fix it temporarily until there are new replies.

not sure if it's just me/my computer or what. we do use a vpn with an adblocker at home, although plurk ads seem to get through fine if my browser adblocker's disabled.

imo putting the two new spirit beasts in major cities sounds like a disaster. i can easily see other hunters attempting to steal your tame, not to mention some of the grudgier ones just killing it if you got to it first. maybe the "challenge" involved in these tames is getting around nuisance players.

that's not even getting into the choice between the beasts; alliance gets a gorgeous ghostly gryphon, horde gets...a blue raptor. they couldn't even make it the spectral wyvern.
