it's not their faces that are icky, though. it's using them for porn without their permission. literally no one has ever said that real people's faces are icky

which in the context of 'i can't smut with-' comes down to icky faces. not to mention i've frequently seen people use the excuse that everyone looks the same and they can't tell real life actors apart because apparently there are too many weebs with prosopagnosia or some shit. voice actors didn't agree to play porn either. animators didn't agree for their art to be used for pornographic scenarios. that argument is bullshit (especially when at least half the characters played are ones used in sex scenes/love scenes in their canon, which happens more in la canons than in anime outside of hentai porn)

it's totally not bullshit? we aren't reusing voice acting clips here and repurposing them for porn and if you can't see how it would be a hell of a lot more disturbing to find someone using YOUR FACE for kinky rp than it would be to find them using your art/fanart you must have some kind of mental problem.

you're using the same 100x100 image of your char's face as la people are. and smutting tentacle sex. and there's a difference between someone that is an actual actor and a cosplayer, along with the fact it's still an image of a character that isn't you doing something you want them to. this argument is pathetic. what if you used a porn star? does that make it okay? what if it's a scene in a movie where they have their dick/boobs out? you're more likely to have nude/sexual scenarios in la than in anime that's not hentai. either way, you're taking someone else's art/face and doing sexual scenarios with them. whether it's art or a face doesn't matter. one isn't magically 'better' because you're using art and not a picture. it's still a bullshit argument, but keep trying to feel superior in your weebness.

i don't think it's better or worse, I think it makes ME uncomfortable to imagine how that person might feel and therefore i can't/won't smut with LA. you're really defensive.

or you can just take a breath and realize that fake people doing fake things don't matter regardless of the medium because it's all fake and nothing's happening irl. people playing dean and goku bukaking all over aerith's face isn't any worse than someone having dean and goku impaling and roasting aerith and eating her. horrible and fluffy things happen. sexy and cute things happen. it's not happening to anyone in any actuality.

and tbh, this is where i feel people fuck up with the ic/ooc border. it's okay to find an actor/actress attractive, and hey, people do think sexy thoughts of them while touching themselves, but god forbid you do it in public with other people? no one's playing jensen ackles taking it up the ass (unless you're on ij). we're doing things to people that don't exist. good, bad, sexual, fluffy. there is literally no difference between playing dean and goku other than medium, and if anyone looks at one or the other and says 'that's too real for me, peace out', then that's the person with the ic/ooc divide problem and they probably should keep away from la stuff because wow, learn to separate fiction from reality.

nonny, I think you're a bit too invested. it's not about ic/ooc divide where players are concerned. it's the fact that, actor playing a paid role or not, there's a real person out there who could be deeply upset having their own, actual face (not just a drawing) attached to sensitive material that they didn't sign up for. the person really might not care and might not ever see it, sure, but some people aren't comfortable ignoring the possibility - and that's okay. find someone else to play with if you want to smut up that character so badly.

and because it's upthread: nobody's doctoring audio files for their kinky roleplay, so the argument about it being the same for voice actors doesn't quite stand.

that's a really dumb line to draw. fanart of derek eating out stiles' ass is drawn representation of shit people play out, but it's also drawn and isn't real face attached to anything. how is fanart of la characters any different than fanart of anime or comic chars? it's still warping the canon of something. that applies to rp. it's all fake. you're doing that thing where you're getting offended on behalf of someone else. where is this line drawn? rp? fanfiction? fanart? anything not strictly canon? i'd think that artists would be more pissed someone's copying their art that they drew by their own hand and doing porn with it than someone taking a 100x100 icon of someone's face and writing words they didn't say with that picture attached.

it's all fantasy. we're all on a site to play it. trying to say one is better than the other is just asinine and tbh, the whole creepy eww real face attitude is why there's a medium divide in the first place. it's all fucking fake. using rl as some kind of 'well my fake is better fake because it's not anywhere close to rl fake' is making excuses for why you don't like the thing and can't separate from ic/ooc.

and you're damn right i'm invested. it's one thing if you don't want to play against me as an la player. whether you don't like the canon or the char or whatever, that's fine. i don't expect everyone to. i dislike anime. but it crosses a line into personal territory when you're basically calling someone a pervert for playing smut with la chars vs anime. eww live face? look, just don't play against la. don't be a dick and try to make it about a superiority complex thing. that's where i take it personally.

[someone is attaching a 100x100 icon of a character you drew to explicit roleplay of that character (or maybe a different one) eating another character's ass] vs [someone is attaching a 100x100 icon of your face to explicit roleplay of the character (you played, or maybe you didn't) eating another character's ass]

i'm not excusing people who want to make an ass of themselves trying to claim moral superiority or whatever, that's also bullshit and they should be personally addressed for it, but there's no need to make a delusional-sounding ass of yourself by accusing everyone who'd rather pass on the potential discomfort in the latter situation of being out of touch with reality.
