Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Anons, recommended workout regimes? I have a con in the summer and want to tone up before so I can cosplay without shaming my ancestors. Not a member of a gym, so budget suggestions preferred!

Swimming regularly is probably going to be your best bet, and there are often half-price nights at local pools/rec centers.

I tried running for a while but found that the complications were tricky (knees not so good.)

I'd google core-toning exercises and find a place to do reps every morning or night. Throw some rest days in there, too. You're going to be squeezing your ass and belly a lot; tends to help.

Don't forget to work on making the diet healthy and sustainable at the same time. I got stupid and started eating like a largo while working out and therefore have not lost a single pound. (Though I haven't gained, either, and most of it seems to be going to muscles, so that's not bad.)

Oh! If you're a little older, working your triceps may help with the arm jiggle. That part is harder to tone ime, for some reason.

+1

Especially to the diet part. I've put on a lot of muscle since I started working out but I haven't lost much fat which means I'm a lot bigger and heavier than I was when I was a lazy slob.

I laughed and then I cringed because I know people who do this and more on the regular.

former personal trainer here

what is your current diet? and your living situation (do you live in an apartment or in a house, in an urban area or a suburb?) and what is your ultimate goal? when people say "tone up" it's a pretty vague term. are you meaning you want more muscle def or losing a few extra pounds or just looking sleeker?

Ground floor city apartment! My diet is 'haphazard vegi', it isn't super controlled tbh but I try to drink a lot of water every day and at least two pieces of fruit, something with iron, avoid too much cheese and stick to one coffee. I'm not a whale but I'm very soft specifically around my middle. So I'd like to shed a bit there and firm up!

hooray for water :) how do you take your coffee?

any good/safe places for you to run or walk? like a park or a dog park if you have a pooch? (maybe you can walk a neighbor or relative's dog for them and earn some cash)

and would you be willing to eat meat and/or eggs? because if you're going to blast that spare tire, you'll have to do a lot of core work and you're gonna wanna repair that muscle as it tears and strengthens as well as give yourself some energy to replace the carbs you're gonna cut down on.

sorry for all the questions. :)

they don't need to eat meat to get their protein though

nuts + beans will give you complete protein

not complete, and the benefits of fish, and lean meat far outweigh nuts which are high in fat and carbohydrates as well. they're better as a snack than a meal.
