Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

It's a little long for your tastes, but the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series is pretty good, if a bit sexually charged. There's only seven books in it, and it's about a legally-licensed vampire hunter whose night job is as a necromancer so that people can talk to deceased loved ones or business partners. It's largely kind of a horror/mystery series, with each book giving her a killing she needs to figure out with the help of some of the local spooks.

Burnt Offerings is the final book in the series and doesn't really wrap it up, but it's not exactly stopping in the middle of a story arc.

Um, no. There's like, 25 or some odd books in that series, anon. It's only worth reading just past Obsidian Butterfly, which is book nine. After that, it turns into a massive fuckfest (haha, pun) since Hamilton stops actually writing about Anita's work/marshalling and is more focusing on her being in a threesome/moresome/necrosuccubus who doesn't actually do much necromancing anymore. I mean, people can read past that if they want, I have, but if I was going to rec it, I'd tell them to stop after Obsidian Butterfly. You could argue that Narcissus in Chains (book 10) isn't too bad, but you can see that it's the start of where she stops caring about plot and when it all devolves into sex.

And to point out that it still might be ongoing. She just keeps crapping them out, much like her Merry Gentry series, which doesn't suck as much as Blake does, if only because Blake started out with PLOT and Gentry was pretty much fairy porn from the start.

Nope. Ends at book seven. Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter ends and Anita Blake: Vampire Humper begins. Blue Moon and Obsidian Butterfly might be considered 'transitional' books, but I can't recommend them to anyone in good conscience.

Anon... that's not how you rec books. If you're going to rec something, at least be honest about it. Don't say there's 7 books when there's not. Just say 'Hey, they're only good up to this point', because otherwise you just come off salty. And I say that as someone that genuinely got into the series and loved it until it turned into porn. As far as the series itself is concerned, it's a longer one and it's ongoing, but if they only want to read up to Obsidian Butterfly, which is pretty much the point I've heard people say is the last book to read as a pretty steady consensus across the board, that's a legit thing to offer. You're being disingenuous when you're saying "Oh, sure, there's seven books to this series and it ends sort of in the middle but whatever" when anyone who's not familiar is going to look it up and think you just got your facts wrong. Because your rec didn't come across as tongue in cheek humor at all. I legit thought you only knew of seven books.
