Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

are there any canons about fictional viruses that can effect both technology/machines as well as organic beings? any medium is cool.

I can only think of the Transformers Hate Plague and Marvel's Techno-organic Virus.

Adding actual reading reccs for this:

Annihilation: Conquest: Prologue
Annihilation: Conquest (main miniseries)
Annihilation: Conquest - Starlord
Nova #4-7

Even if you're not the most familiar with the characters it's not hard to pick things up. It's Guardians of the Galaxy (sort of like the movies but slightly more serious) + Nova, a normal guy from NYC who became Marvel's version of Green Lantern, except if the whole Green Lantern Corps died.

Before this they all fought and won a terrible war against space bugs, and an evil Borg virus that infects organic people and machine life is the next threat that comes after.

Sorry, that's Nova volume 4. There's multiple volumes.

Just seconding this recommendation because it's a really good arc and more people should read it.

Reading Annihilation, which comes before Annihilation Conquest, isn't necessary, but it has more background as to the state of things and it's just as good.

The Andromeda Strain is the first one that comes to mind! I've only read the original Crichton novel, but I believe there's a movie adaptation as well.

The Flood/Precursors from Halo.

Seriously. There's a variant from the forerunner book trilogy called "the logic plague", which allows a hivemind to overfeed an AI with data and arguments to have it join the flood.

Writing in trochaic heptameter might be difficult if you do halo 2/3 gravemind, though.

The Ring novels (yes, the ones on which the horror flick is based), esp the last book. Much more emphasis on the virus' effect on organic beings, mind.
