Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i was the anon explaining that not all latinos are poc. he IS latino, so he does count as latino representation. but he isn't poc. in many parts of latinamerican poc are also discriminated against and we also have white faces on tv, so calling him poc is not fair to the people of color who want yo see more than white on the screen.

nayrt

americans don't get that the construct of race in america is different than in latin american countries. oscar issac is lation, definitely. but he would not be called a poc in my country.

perfect is the enemy of good, anon

I'm proud that there's a Latino in such a main role like that, in a franchise as huge as Star Wars is, but some of the "he's not Pantone coffee brown" critique coming out of certain quarters isn't helping

first latin anon in this thread

anon, it is not that we aren't proud. we are! latino representation, awesome. but when i see the arguments, i think both sides are being stupid.

camp "he doesn't count because he isn't brown" is stupid as hell. he is latino. we have what counts as a minority in hollywood.

the other camp, instead of answering just that, keep insisting he IS poc. when he isn't.

extremes are bad. that's why i jumped to explain. white latinos are a thing. i don't want it to be perfect, because like you said, it can be your enemy. i just want everyone to fuck the hell up because neither side is helping.

...the fuck? you have to submit to a pantone color test to be "poc" enough or something? do white-passing black people not count as poc either? super pale asians as well, maybe?

wanting pushback against colorism and people who aren't lily white on TV screens is great and all, but the hell is the 'skin too pale/not pale enough to qualify as POC' shit?

...no? it's not about "white passing". LATINO IS NOT A RACE. some latinos are literally white. because just like americans, they descend from white people. spaniard and italy mostly, just like the usa has a lot of england and ireland.

not all latinos are poc. many places in latinamerica have the same racist shit that happens with black people in the usa. "brown" people are negros de mierda. the cops will stop them at night for no reason. and good luck getting a decent job.

white and latino aren't mutually exclusive terms, anon. your white-passing black people doesn't apply.

i understand better what you're saying now, but going by the original question that sparked off this whole long thread, we're viewing things from an americentric lens here. and tbh, whether latino is a race or not (not my place to say), it's certainly discriminated against and treated like one in the US. other countries standards of bullshit and bigotry aren't really at play here.

for example, plenty of asian groups treat other asians of different ethnicities, nationalities, and skin tones like crap, but they're all poc from an americentric pov. (which tbh is why i hate the term poc, but it exists and the yardstick is merely 'not caucasian/white', so)

ayrt is talking out of the sides of their mouth on this but ia with how ridiculous this is getting

i've heard tumblrinas bitch about how misty copeland, a fucking trailblazer who worked her ass off to get where she is, isn't "black enough" and still too pale

especially when the people who are saying they're not 'dark enough' are usually the darker toned pocs who think they're the standing measure for what a poc is.
