Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The gist is that my character was rude to theirs on the network, and their character + some of their CR dogpiled mine. That wouldn't be a problem, except now the other player is asking if I'm interested in shipping or smutty CR and I'm suppose I'm mostly baffled because I thought our characters would need to work back up to friendly smut-level relations... but they don't seem to have registered that a negative interaction has taken place and that our characters (or at least, my character?) are on the outs right now.

And I guess I'm mostly worried that if I point it out, it'll seem like I've been upset by this interaction OOCly and don't want to rp with them anymore, especially when it's not their "fault" that other CR jumped in and started yelling at my character (everyone asked permission to threadjack, it was all cool.) Maybe other people treat characters snarking at each other on the network as nbd, and I'm the odd one out for having it ICly impact my character this way?

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, that's a good way to put it. I was a little taken aback by the dogpile at first but it was fine (and kind of fun) when I leaned into it, since I expect negative CR for my asshole character. Mostly I was just surprised that it didn't seem to register to the other player that my character would feel mad and upset by this even if they were the one in the wrong.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I suspect they didn't see the snarking and dogpiling on the network as a huge deal, since I think a lot of people take network interaction less seriously in general. If you're open to continuing CR I'd state your character's POV of that interaction icly and make it clear that it'll take work, or, if you're open to smoothing things over this once since they might not have realized it would be a big deal, let them know that but also make it clear that future network stuff will be treated the same way as any other negative interaction.

i wish i didn't feel like the only person whose threads are getting dropped in my game. if someone responds to 9 out of 10 tags in their inbox, mine is inevitably the one that doesn't get responded to.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
ngl that is such a weird reaction to negative cr for me but i guess it's up to you. if you're not really up for shippy/smutty cr, you can say you're willing to do gen but that shipping/smut is unlikely at the moment given what happened. i assume that's still on the table?

i don't think it's weird to set even ic boundaries as long as you explain it clearly and aren't just "no i don't want to rp with your character", since it sounds like you're not opposed to more cr with the right development.

haven't really noticed this myself and i just came back after a long hiatus with a new character. it's definitely slower than this time last year when i was active, but i blame my choice of character and canon for that.

still getting a modest amount of good threads going though. give it a try, anon! you miss all the *shots you don't take

*p.s. accidentally typed shits at first. oops

eh not that weird imo? some characters are more grounded in that they don't have a lot of reasons to talk to characters that have put them off. if it's ic, no reason why taking on the "we'll need to plot a little more oocly to get them on normal terms again" perspective is a bad idea. if anything, i feel it shows a willingness on part of the player to find a way to maintain the cr despite what their character would normally be inclined to do (be avoidant).

I mean, I consider this my character's reaction to negative CR and I prefer to make an effort to stay IC. Not all of my characters would sulk and cold shoulder people who diss them, just that one.

Thinking about it more, I think I do feel a little miffed like... just because my character acts like a jackass with a hardened outlook doesn't mean that they don't feel hurt or get impacted by negative interactions, and I don't want to ICly gloss over those messy emotions to jump back into friendship or smut. I would be happy to plot ways to change their avoidance or throw the characters into a situation where they have to work together, or my character learns the error of their ways, whatever. But it would take plotting and development to get there.

no, don't cut it off, that's not what i meant

You seem like a pretty chill player! I was initially reading this situation as the other players just piling on in, so I'm glad it wasn't that sort of situation.

In general with this kind of thing, I think it sets you up for success to frame things positively and clearly express that you are interested to continue rping with this character, it will just won't be as direct a path to shippy and smutty stuff as they are perhaps imagining now. Balance it in carefully, but it will probably also help to poke a little fun at your character for their reaction too. I think this will help make it clear the sour feelings are IC only and you as a mun are down to play more.

Sorry, not weird on you, but the other player that their reaction to negative cr is to want you to ship/smut with them.

my bad. i meant it was weird on the other person that they angled for ship/smut right after a negative interaction where others dogpiled op's character.

m/m or f/f, slowburn corruption, powers/magic

[personal profile] starpatternsocks 2024-03-04 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Slowburn corruption is the name of the game in this prompt! I'll be playing character B:

Character A sets themselves up as the mentor of Character B, and teaches B how to use their powers while manipulating them and swaying them over to their point of view. This can be either magic based or superpower based, either is fun! Either way, A will be an experienced teacher who uses their experience to push and coerce until B is firmly on A's side, until B is willing to do whatever A says, no matter how heinous.

I'd like this to contain a good amount of actual connection on both sides: A isn't just a villain with no emotions, they do genuinely care for B, they just have a kind of fucked up way of showing it. And B genuinely cares for A, and may even begin to realize at some point how they're being manipulated, but they're so far gone at that point that they shrug it aside because they love A.

Slowburn would be ideal here, as well as some fun worldbuilding and plenty of interesting character dynamics, with scenes of A teaching B to use their powers, comforting them after a power useage goes wrong, B curiously listening to A's stories and backstory, undertaking missions or quests, etc.

Of course, there will also be smut! Whether this is somewhat dubcon at the start, or fully consensual with B just being oblivious to A's intentions, is up to you! I'd like them to grow their sexual relationship alongside their mentor/mentee relationship, and their romance as well. Typical kinks we could throw in there is dom/sub, power usage in sex, bondage, body worship, stuff like that. More optional stuff could be a/b/o (with A as an alpha and B as an omega), or mind control. I would play B as a bottom, but they can be anywhere on the dom/sub spectrum from a shy sub to a smug power bottom dom.

I'm cool with any kind of PB (live action, drawn, description, etc), I'll match what you do. I've got a couple of canon characters that could work for this (Pyro from the XMCU, or Peter from Heroes), or I'd be happy to make an OC!

I think you just need to be straight forward because honestly even your comment here comes off wishy-washy. You say the other player is β€œangling for CR,” indicating that you don’t want anything more, but then you bring up the idea of plotting and development, which is CR building.

First figure out if you’re actually interested in more CR with the other character, then communicate that, and if the answer is potentially yes, then what circumstances would it take to get to that point.

If the other player thinks your character should just get over it then they think their character is too precious for anyone to not like/be mad at and probably isn’t worth your time. But some people do legitimately like neg CR and want to look for ways to put the characters in situations where you can continue it

we had absolutely incredible writing chemistry, our plotting discussions often wound up 5+ paragraphs long each reply because we both had so many thoughts and ideas and bounced off each other so well, our characters always had insane chemistry with each other, and I'm never going to write with you again, because you're the biggest flake I've ever met.

We connected on a cool prompt, we wrote together for a couple of months, and then you ghosted me. You came back a few months later, we connected on a different prompt, and everything was great again, and then you ghosted again two weeks later. The entire time, you were telling me I was the best rp partner you'd ever found, this was your favorite rp, and so on. Your enthusiasm was so genuine, and yet you still ghosted me. We connected again two more times, and two more times you ghosted me.

I just don't have it in me to give you a fifth chance. You always come back with excuses, we always start with new characters and a new thread, it's always great and then you vanish. The hilariously ironic thing was, the last time we connected, you actually had the audacity to say that because you loved this idea so much, you hoped that I wouldn't ghost you.

i'll remember our threads fondly, but I sincerely hope we never respond to each other's prompts again

tfw when you play a character from a tiny fandom, you find a canonmate on memes, and they ghost you multiple times

like i get that they just probably didn't mesh with my writing style or portrayal, so i only poked them once and then left them alone to make sure i wasn't being a pushy asshole, but damn. feels bad man

Re: RP WOES

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's also sadly more likely to make things worse ime. It sucks, but ignoring it until they move on to their next shiny to whine about and just continue happily threading with the player is the best option in most cases.

Re: RP WOES

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
(un?)fortunately this probably isn't the issue for me, as i've mostly only gotten a couple tags into some first meeting threads and chatted minor details oocly. it adds to my confusion because i probably didn't rub them wrong within that time frame (but what if??)

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Agreeing with others that the best angle - if you are down to continue the CR oocly! - is to be upfront about where your character is right now with it and be really open about wanting to plan to get them wherever both of you want the cr to go. It might still not work out - I've had it happen before - but it sounds like if they're willing to work with you on it you could get some more fun interactions!

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Did they ghost you but you saw them tagging elsewhere? If not it's entirely possible RL got in the way or the inspiration for the character died! No sense in blaming yourself for it without knowing.

(Anonymous) 2024-03-04 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure if this would be more appropriate under "Character Advice" since it's not for a specific character per se but...

Anons who play characters from obscure canons: how do you make yourself/the character more appealing to write with? I always get a ton of tags on my meme TLs for more/semi-popular canons but when I try my hand at someone obscure I like a lot the well runs dry. I'm p sure it's moreso to do with people tagging characters they recognize but as someone who has gotten into a lot of canons through RPing on here.... honestly I want to try to be that/just be more appealing overall.

If it's an "It can't be helped" situation then fair but if there's something anyone can suggest I do more please tell me. ):
