Depends on the game! The main consistency is the boxes containing chips and dollar bills on the Poker tables and the boxes containing chips for Table Games. (Roulette has their own) The tables also have boxes containing tips which I found out are split evenly among all dealers in that time frame rather than to the person directly which imo is total bullshit.

As for the most common issues? Theft theft and more theft. Internal theft primarily, usually from the team in charge of counting the money. Beyond that I worked grave shift and alcohol flowed like water so LOTS of people were drunk and stupid. We were always supposed to track when security physically escorted someone out and most of the time it was people too intoxicated to function.

I also effed up in my TL and forgot to say former LOL mb.

So the main thing is that a lot of resources can get VERY in the weeds with regards to cataloging. Don't worry, you don't need to know the ins and outs of how RDA works, the vast majority of cataloging (especially at public libraries) is copy cataloging (taking a previously created record and applying it to your item in question). So if you get overwhelmed by numbers, just remember that you probably won't need this in the future.

If you're American, you'll probably be learning to read MARC. OCLC has a great resource where you can look up all the MARC codes and how to format them: https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/0xx.html

The first thing you'll need to do is learn how to read a catalog entry. My class didn't actually teach us this and I was livid, lmao. If you remember field (the three letter code, what larger concept is this entry trying to tell) vs indicators (the two numbers, what are some oddities about the larger concept we need to know) vs subfield (the longer strings of text, how does the larger concept relate to the item in question), that'll make reading a catalog entry easier.

my game actually does have that in the rules specifically but people just don’t seem to care. my prefs also say no 4th-walling. I think people think that if they aren’t coming up to your character and saying something like “aren’t you Velma from the cartoon with the talking dog?” then it’s not actually 4th-walling

it’s in my prefs but you’re probably right that I’m going to have to be more proactive about telling people not to do it upfront. I said this in the other comment but I think some people think what they’re doing is fine as long as they aren’t outright calling my character fictional.

if it's in the rules, report it to the mods. these players aren't just being stupid, they're actively breaking the rules of the game and making it difficult for you to play. that's not cool.

I've heard people will get kicked out for playing too well even if there's no proof of cheating/card counting/etc. In your experience how often did that actually happen?

i'm thinking it'd be easier to bring him way way later so he's processed it, had enough experience to feel comfortable (not necessarily have to bring it up at all in rp) and can focus on him having fun re: gender. would that work better?

I've been rewatching Inside Job, and been having a desire to play some of the characters. However, I've realized that a lot of the humor of the series is based off not just playing off real-life personalities in the context of a global conspiracy, but how politics and corruption are closely intertwined with it.

Given politics is a very no-no topic, especially in RP when people want to wind down, I've wondered how would it be best to tread those topics, especially since they may deal with sensitive issues such as authoritarianism, sexism, surveillance, and the like.

i suppose. it's up to you. i personally probably wouldn't load an oc up with that kind of trauma if i wanted light-hearted rp, but i'm not about to tell you what to write.

i started a new job today! it's my first time back to work in a couple years and i was too anxious to sleep last night, but it was so pleasant and everyone was so welcoming.

I don't know the canon but I think the politics thing depends on what it is. If it's your standard TV show thing, fine. If they're going on about Trump and Biden, no.

seconding anon above; we aren't purity culture weirdos here and plenty of fantasy canons deal with authoritarianism, sexism, surveillance, etc. Some of us like that kind of stuff! Some don't care for it, and that's okay. You would probably do fine to just avoid naming names and refer to them as The President if it's something like that? You could also always add a quick blurb in your top levels or if you're tagging someone new for the first time like, [character cw: backstory involves x y z, if you're okay with that?]

I don't think you should have to neuter yourself too much but I think doing some prefacing/warning and mild 'coding' is respectful and least gets the point across without having to be Too Real about it. Also, there's always opt-out posts and permissions posts! That's literally what they're there for. You aren't responsible for what someone chooses to interact with, just reasonably warning them in advance for what you have to offer.

So happy for you, nonny! That sounds absolutely wonderful. I hope you took your deserved victory lap in some way, and that your dinner will be delicious enough to be the perfect cherry on top, if not that you remember to try and treat yourself a little sometime soon.

it’s understandable but that doesn’t stop it from making me feel bad

i don't think that bringing in a character or playing out threads that involve a lot of modern politics and intrigue are necessarily a NO here - lots of people are down to play around with themes of politics, corruption, and discrimination, esp at... how would i put it, like higher levels of government and governance than us rando normies would ever really experience, forex an agent for the CIA, an ambassador for the UN, son or daughter of a modern monarchy, etc.

but i do think it should be a solidly opt-in sort of deal and you should lay out the kind of topics you'd be interested in playing out and let people pick and choose which ones they're interested in engaging with. obvs different people will have different limits, prefs, and topics they want to avoid. someone might be down to do a thread that's fully set in the here-and-now with all of the current trappings and political figures we've got rn, but not want to include ongoing election controversies, or decide they want to skip on the transphobia or rollback of reproductive rights or what have you because certain things hit too close to home or just aren't worth engaging in fictional pretendy times with.

i got my start in deviantart (that dates my age, i think) and it really does help to know people already in the industry. a lot of the people i know who got "in" were recommended by artist friends, who were in turn recommended by other artist friends. social media helps but unless you get extremely popular/viral (Artgerm, Babs, etc) it's more who you know that really gets you hired.

basically make friends, but be honest about it cos a lot of oldtimers are paranoid especially with the AI shit and moving away from print. though if you wanna do comics fulltime and not as a sidegig you'll want to have a nest egg first because you'll need to really hustle to get your first projects in.

No one was tagging this weekend, so I did a bunch of tagouts and went to bed very sad and tagless. Woke up, went to work, and came back after dinner to see that my inbox is overflowing. Guys, I appreciate it, but where were you over the weekend when I actually had time?????

I realize this is a great problem to have, but I'm blue that I'm gonna have to tag these back like a snail until the weekend rolls around again...
