Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

nonny is this your very first foray into any sort of internet community? the discussion happening here is pretty tame by p much any standard of an anon community, so if this is a cesspool in your pov... just. don't go here?

this isn't how 'how people on dwrp talk to each other' or 'how you can expect your writing partners/game mates to talk to you.' many dwrpers dont go on anoncomms or don't comment even if they go or see people arguing and close the tab and don't gaf. we the people who are posting on rpanons at this moment are a collection of total randos with a shared hobby who don't know each other, probably don't play with one another, or share games with each other. this is like seeing anonymous knitters bash each other for their poor choice in yarn choices in an online forum and deciding you don't want to join a knitting circle because you're afraid that's representative of the "true spirit of knitters."

as a regular lurker and more recent commenter idk. it is pretty jarring to see random transphobia and people being rude about questions or concerns or worries in any hobbyist community. so many of you guys respond in this strange and condescending way every time someone asks this question. it isn't a judgment call on you specifically so maybe chill? there's no standard unanon hub for newbies to get into the dwrp world anymore with the death of fandom comms, and so for a lot of them, rpanons is their first real exposure to our ooc community. i get that we get questions and remarks along these lines fairly often and it becomes a little exhausting. but i feel like if it's mentioned this much it might be time to consider that it's offputting for new people to see? it doesn't hurt to be patient.

i mean i'll admit maybe i'm just an old codger who's been here and around on the internet for too long but my impression has always been that anon communities (for all hobbies and subject matters) are and always have been full of bored people looking to chat and complain and easily devolve into trolls hurling slurs left and right without sufficient moderation. rpanons is a positive delight (yes even with the recent spate of complaints and crossover talk about wg) in comparison to a lot of other places, so are we getting new people who come from. idk much more well mannered communities or young people who aren't familiar with anoncomm cultures at all or what?

i like to roll out the welcome mat for newbies who ask about how dwrp works and how to break in but being shocked by seeing people being casual assholes brings out the cane shaking part of me ig

ayrt and i'm an old guy too and honestly it's entirely possible we might be getting an influx of people from both non-anon communities which are by default less acerbic and given that i've seen more than one person express surprise at the idea of anonymous communities in general, it may be that your guess it's actually 100% correct. i'd rather give some of the newer people the benefit of the doubt — i think us older millennials don't always have the best perspective on how much things have changed in such a short period of time with the internet and the culture around it because we've been around for most of the changes and dwrpers in general tend not to branch out a ton to other rp comms? this is just me spitballing btw I might be wrong.

and yeah i also get a little "ok :/" at some of the catastrophizing of new (and sometimes older) people on anoncomms whenever they see some spots of negativity on here, but i try to imagine myself in their shoes as maybe someone who just straight up doesn't frequent or know about anonymous communities to know that it's a commonplace thing to see in places where people don't have to put a face to their comments.

sidenote: i really do think dwrp would benefit from a centralized unanonymous (non-anonymous?) community too. something about us having like, ugly flop wankgate and then here, which is nicer by far but you still randomly see someone wild out about the dumbest shit just does not give a person a good impression ykwim. i can see where they're coming from. i'm not proposing a hugbox or whatever but it'd be nice to see more mentoring and camaraderie for sure. we used to have spots like that in ljrp and it sucks it's not a thing anymore.

I agree with your sidenote, but mostly because thinking about this group of 20-40 miserable people as the entire DWRP community makes me sad. I want to think there are more folks out there that I just haven't met yet.

no, but you're right. The people who've been here for a long while are mostly older-mid millennials (that's me too) used to a certain way things "are" but that doesn't mean it's how things should be or that the internet landscape hasn't changed around us and we can't change for the better too.
