thinking about a game loosely based on The Good Place, but without the gentle bent of religion/thoughts on the afterlife and some horror themes that are closer to mayfield ('play your part, do it well, or we'll MAKE you do it')

characters are brought into 'a good place' to live out their lives, with the option of doing memloss/AU ('I've always been here... right?') the good place initially appears to be a very nondescript suburb + small downtown area in present day US, but with some weird out of place architectural quirks - forex there's a Vegas style casino and the Bellagio fountain, a few random skyscrapers plopped in the middle etc. they're either placed into randomized "soulmate" pairings or "family" groups and have to play at their parts of loving partner or head of family or child to be taken care of, no matter if that part actually suits them (joel last of us as loving partner or child lmao). events can go from pure comedy (flying shrimp steeds) or more psychological horror (suddenly character shadows begin to peel away and act on their own to sabotage characters) etc.

anon... literally begging you to make this happen, i'd be on it in a heartbeat!

i always liked the randomization thing in Mayfield, it felt like a good way to built CR.

was thinking about a limited-run memloss/regain game last night and had two concepts for it:

1. something like the anime Big O where there's a town full of people with no memories of their past. characters live here with a general idea of their role in the town and by stumbling across certain items, can regain their memories. also maybe giant robot fights.

or

2. something more contained set in a mental hospital, where the characters seem to "remember" that something happened but they don't know what. by searching the hospital grounds they find things that restore their memories and can start trying to unravel the greater mystery of what brought them here and how to get home.

both of these have precedence in journal RP - there was a short-lived Big O game with amnesia and robot fights on LJ, and the second refers to Landel's Damned, although i was imagining something less ominous (no monsters/torture, etc., just a slightly off-putting hospital covering up something deeper).

anyway, which sounds more interesting to you guys?

the idea of 2 sounds interesting but i wouldn't join a "mental hospital" setting, it's too real/potentially triggering. not to mention it feels like it's reinforcing stigma around mental health issues.

if you wanted to do something like that i would suggest removing it as far as possible from an earth setting. make it a recovery center or hospital-like setting on an alien planet or something totally different and unrelated to the typical "asylum" settings. if they have no memories and it's a jamjar there's literally no reason why it would need to be a normal hospital. i would advise thinking outside the box for sure!

i actually love the idea of combining it with memloss, putting it as a "hospital" on an alien planet or with robot staff or something trying to help the patients recover their memories
