considering hitting up the tdm! what's the pace like here and are people pretty friendly? is there much of a medium divide? that's not going to stop me personally because i tag anyone but it may affect who i decide to throw in

(Anonymous) 2017-01-18 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
pace is medium-slow depending on who you tag. overall the atmosphere is fairly friendly, but there are some who are clearly not interested in anything outside of their little circle. they're easy to ignore, though, so nbd. medium divide is basically non existent, which is great and one of the things i like about the game.

if you don't want cr with the rogue one cast or you play a star wars character, you're fine. everyone else tags around well.

man, anon, I am only ΒΌ of the r1 cast so I can't speak for my castmates but there are a lot of characters in this game I'm interested in CR with! I joined to play with everyone not just the Star Warses.

so! for the record if you (anybody in the game reading this collective you) would like a thread with Bodhi I have both an open log and an open post up, and while I haven't tagged out more than a couple of times this month because I have the newbie jitters I'm always open to plotting, so my cr meme comment is here or my general contact/plotting/hmd is here. /awkward fingerguns

there isn't much of a medium divide that i'm noticing, which has been a really nice surprise for me. i'm used to struggling to get cr for my character in some games and i've had no problems here. there's a wide range of mediums and character types. oocly people are pretty friendly too! right now there's an event going on that a number of characters are participating in off the ship that might have slowed the pace a little, but those characters can still communicate with the people on the ship over the network. otherwise i think it's pretty variable: some people boomerang and others are slower but consistent. overall, i'm really enjoying the game and have started thinking of it as my home game.

how "dark" does this game get

it's kind of difficult to say at this point, since it just started in december, but i'm expecting that it's going to the kind of darkness you'd expect from the sci-fi genre. i had to dig for it, but someone asked the mods about the tone of the game when it was revealed that the first event was participating in a conflict on an alien world and this is what they said:

"Since the game's inception, we've tried to be as transparent as possible in our information that elements of survival, horror, sex, and other potentially uncomfortable topics may arise through plots and gameplay. The game will also have low conflict and more lighthearted moments, like it's been this month, but that won't always be so and it's possible through gameplay that there will be worse conflicts ahead."

i wasn't in ataraxion or cdc so idk what those games were like, but this game's a lot more serious than something like gargleblasted was.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-01-26 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
agreeing with above anon that it's hard to tell so far, but based on the first event and some of the TDM prompts we've seen, I'm assuming that there's going to keep being the potential for some dark shit to crop up, but there's still plenty of SoL happening outside of that, because the setting does lend itself well to that.

I don't see it ever getting as heavy as CDC was, but it's probably going to be overall darker than I remember Gargleblasted being.

Re: ELUVIO

Apparently super dark. Event just concluded with nuclear holocaust and genocide and one of teams in the event was indirectly responsible. I feel bad for anyone who got chosen for that team. I certainly wouldn't want my characters to deal with that on their conscience.

if you didn't see that coming from 5 miles away i really don't know what to say to you

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-01 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Was there any indication when the event was announced that your character might trigger a nuclear holocaust? I'm asking a genuine question here.

does this game not have a meme comm?

that's awesome if so

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-01-30 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
no, it doesn't. the closest thing it has is a comm for the test drive meme, but only the mods can post to it.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
no meme comm and no intro logs. i might have to check this one out.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-02 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
am I the only one a bit disappointed that there are no catch all logs for events? i suppose it's not a bad thing it just feels strange to try and keep an eye on everything i suppose. everything is scattered and some people didn't bother posting because of it?

i don't mind it so much but in this day and age in journal rp it seems a bit strange and i was wondering if anyone else felt that way?

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-02 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
not really missing anything. tbqh i'm tired of getting lost in a sea of top levels or posting late and no one seeing it because it's too far behind. idk when catchalls became a thing but unless it's a party or something, it's not necessary. especially for events that can last long like some of them might in this game?? make your own catchall.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-02 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
i see your point, anon! they seem like a good idea for a major party for mass interactions and i thought perhaps because this event was segregated into groups that the groups would each have a catch all? so reading through each of them i got lost on who was doing what. that was my bad really. i should have tracked it all better. i was just surprised that it wasn't all contained. the more i think it over the more i might like it. i'm just so conditioned to being able to 'expand all' and read through an entire events is all lol.

also, thank you for your reply! i do not mean to knock how it's going but more curious to how people feel on it.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-02 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone looking at this game, it's a plus. I hate catch-alls for events and fucking intro logs. I hate the sea of toplevels as another anon said. I hate the "comment within a day or two or you're fucked" game. I think a lack of catch alls encourages more meaningful logs to take place when people plot together, or encourages people to make their own open logs which feel easier to keep on top of.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-03 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
i hope you do look more into this game. it's been great fun. and thank you for your thoughts on it. i see the point you are making and it makes sense to me. i suppose i haven't had the same experience with catch-alls as others have, so i find it interesting to see it from another pov.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-02 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think this day in age of journal RP it is something to get used to again.

But for a game like this I think it works. It's a lot less overwhelming and for a small scale event like the holiday party early in the game there was a catch all, so it isn't as though this game won't ever have catch all logs.

Re: ELUVIO

(Anonymous) 2017-02-03 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
you are right! it is something to get used to again and might not be a bad idea to do so. i suppose i never realized that they were overwhelming for most people? i generally looked at catch-all's as a place where i could read everything and choose from a large list of people playing, but it's hitting me now that that is very meme style.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
i hate game-wide catch-all logs with a passion. i like to be able to find my threads easily when i want to go back and read them. i also want to be able to load the page without a problem. in some of the larger games, there are so many comments the page takes forever to load and the formatting is all screwed up because the threads extend too far to the right. plus echoing all the things the other anons said: the rush to get on the first page, getting overlooked because there are a million other people and after a while even people looking to tag in randomly get overwhelmed, the unwieldiness.

years ago, catch-alls weren't a thing. people used to actually make logs of their own volition and those logs used to get a lot of comments. now players expect the mods to do all the work setting everything up and make little "my character is going x, y, and z here. come bug them" non-starters that pass the buck to anyone who wants to tag them. it's annoying. i'm glad there's a game that's willing to buck the trend and do away with them for events.
