Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Panfandom fantasy afterlife

Have most of the writing and setup complete, just getting cold feet and wanting to gauge interest. Panfandom game set in a fantasy-type setting with politics, PvP, battles, courts, and player advancement, and hard ending date of 12 months with a pretty deep plot. I want it to also be very SoL friendly for people who just like the setting and don't want to worry about other elements.

No AC, but activity gets rewards. Doubles of characters accepted, first come first serve. No app challenges. Rolling apps, and a streamlined app to make it easy to come and go with new characters. Accounts that haven't posted to logs in 60 or 90 days get purged. No permadeath, but consequences can be powerloss, memloss, etc.

Simplified premise,

Once, long ago, the lands of the afterlife were unformed, and shrouded by fog. A land of unmoving grey landscapes, confusion, and despair, ruled by Death and populated with his servants and the dead. At his discretion, souls might be destroyed, or given leave to ascend and be reincarnated. His reign went long unchanged.

But an enterprising soul discovered that the souls of others could be consumed for power. That power could change the landscape. That the afterlife itself could be altered, and even Death's powers emulated. The source of his power was not kept secret for long, and the ages of war and strife that covered the afterlife saw the rise of great and terrible spirits who fought each other for pride, for control, and for mastery the world.

Seeing his power over his subjects deteriorating, Death split his lands, and made the most powerful of those warring spirits his lords, sharing a piece of his domain with them all... and grooming them each to battle the others, endlessly.

Only... the most ancient legends whisper that one day the time will come that a soul shall not be satisfied by these or any other powers. The a truly great soul shall ascend the path of power and usurp Death's dark crown.

Your character is dead. And after their death, will awake in the afterlife, in Death's Hall of Souls. Death himself will usher your character into the afterlife, judging their acts in life and assigning them as vassals to one of his great lords.

What your character does after this is up to them. They may live in the Afterlife as they see fit, adjusting to the strange new world and living how they please. They may seek to serve their Lord, battling other souls, and using their service and deeds to be granted the right to reincarnate. Or they may seek to increase their own power, gaining allies and learning how to displace the Lord who rules them.

Your character may be dead: but that does not mean that they cannot feel pain, loss, joy, or love. There is still much to gain... and much to lose. What path will they choose?

it seems like a neat idea but do you mean doubles of characters as in batman from the edgy movies and batman from the animated series, or double characters as in 2 of batman from the animated series who are the same?

So with the first season finishing up and the big reveal about the world, would anyone be interested in a game based on it still?

The big reveal would make things interesting for on-going plot / make it more like a mayfield type theme but still allow lots of SoL depending on how characters go about figuring things out.

Smut game activity mechanics

Thinking about setting up a kink-oriented sandboxy smut game.

I'm trying to tailor the activity system overall to reward playing out smut to completion and facilitating more kink and smut being played out as much as possible. I'd like the game to be about the kink and smut first and foremost (but of course players can thread and plot as much gen as they want), so I'm considering a monthly smut ac at the moment. While there won't be much metaplot there will be posts put up regularly to facilitate instant hookup/mid-fuck type threads, and I'm thinking tdm threads may also be allowed to count for part of the ac.

How do people feel about points/status-based systems kind of like CoA had? Like, characters need to submit completed smut threads to earn points to upgrade power/perks/social standing. I'm also considering characters earning bonuses for running open kink player events and bonuses for playing out whatever the kinks of the month might be etc. Maybe a player who is particularly active in completing smut threads could even earn the occasional smut ac waiver, where if they had a slow porn month for whatever reason they could submit gen activity instead.

i was the original person that suggested way back when that coa include a smut ac. at the time, it was needed.

now? not so much. people smut what they want when they want. i smut in my non-smut game all the time. so do others. if you absolutely feel you have to implement a smut ac, i'd advise something like a rotating bi-monthly mandatory smut ac. but lbr. in this dwindling playing era, trying to force people to play something if they might not be feeling it that month just hasn't been working well.

Hey folks, let me put this on here to see if we can get something going on rpanon as well.

My basic premise is to make another Sofia Academy if you've heard of it, if you have not, I'll sum it up as "AU, your character has powers and is invited to a place where the powers are strongest and allowed to help uncover the mysteries of the powers and their origin."

The draw is you have powers, and need to figure out how to get them under control, or you've been pushed to come the the place.

My problems is if I should include a special island/country/what have you in an otherwise typical Earth setting.

I've had a decent discussion on an anon plurk but I also know may not make the circles I want for checking if there's enough interest. Right now I'm alone, and I will be anonymous. I also hope the rest of the mod team will be so as well, because I have been harassed for answers that sometimes I felt I needed to touch base with my team with before answering and I am not about that life.

Secondly, as we're an AU game, I'm going to allow you to age up your characters if you choose. I like to run a little fast as loose so as long as you can demonstrate to me that you understand what your character is about, please feel free to take liberties, especially since the AU nature is going to result in some personality changes.

Thirdly, there will be an AC. I will however take opinions expressed by my potential playerbase into account when making it, so please suggest AC limits as well while this is getting passed around

Fourthly, I am hoping to get a team together, so do not expect a situation where if I suddenly vanish that the game will need to halt because I didn't hand out any of the community passwords (SA) or I didn't leave the staff notes about what was going on (DC).

There's been some nice discussion on AC as well, and the possibility of IC rewards for activity.

Okay. So I think I've got things sitting the way I want, ish, and now it is I thought I'd run it past people here before committing to open reserves or an opening date. I'd like to know if anyone foresees any issues in either the general game idea or it's functions. I know that I still have a couple of textareas to fix, for example, but they're less crucial to the game going live. Questions on the FAQ are welcome!

hey, yall. i've had this idea bouncing around for years but i've now finally had the kind of cohesive idea making/flexibility/time dedication to plan this out.

anyways, the point of the RP is you wake up, gotta be fresh gotta go downstairs, etc. in a jamjar that's suspiciously like some sort of horror version of disneyland. It's run by sadistic versions of mickey mouse/minnie mouse/whatever. what's outside of the park is vague,, but it's pretty foreboding that you don't leave. Events would range from silly (pokemon infestation) to horror (zombie outbreak, serial killer event, maybe some bizarre meta-election where we can put our characters through some sort faulty democracy, etc.). There'll be regains, and you won't start with your powers immediately. Characters without powers can probably gain some...at a cost!!! places to investigate would include rides that would function as some sort of dimensional portal (pirates of the carribean would actually transport you into some sort of skeletal buccaneer realm, peter pan would take you to some horrorneverland, the matterhorn would have an abominable creature).

Communications will be handled, there'll be smart wrist communicators built into the uhhh... wrists of people who apply. They'll have video/voice/voice to text function and also handle all things that need handwaving (death, etc.)

i want actual world building (as in in-game consequences for in-game events!). it's a large, ethically challenged amusement park for your ruining pleasure!

either all characters will be housed in main street or somewhere within the different "parts" of disneyland. I'm not quite sure if, it's the second, if I'd want connection between the various parts at first just for the dynamic that you know there are other survivors out there in a world far different than your own.

anyways the locations would be based off of parts of disneyland:. rides in disneyland would exist in some sort of pseudo-real dark state (the tiki room would have demonic birds, pirates of the carribean would be a literal pirateworld with skeletons and buccaneers, splash mountain will occasionally fill with blood, teacups would spin you until you throw up, peter pan's ride is in the complete darkness and has some sort of psychological effect in making you make reckless, childish decisions, etc.)

main street - get your mayfield flashbacks here. everything is perfect this typical midwestern town that seems to be completely abandoned but still fresh and oddly preserved. An ornate magical castle exists on the end, with a dark aura hovering around the gate. passing through it would take you to the park. main street would ideally function as a home base if i'm going to keep all the applicants together. features include a movie theater, a fire station, etc. some of which might just be there for shits and giggles and not actually work.

adventure land - some sort of indiana jones haunted temple shit.local features include demonic robotic tropical birds (The tiki room), aggressive wildlife including those found in active canons (the jungle cruise), and temples with traps (indiana jones???).

new orleans square - More enchanted. Like, here you'd encounter more occultish things like vampires, zombies, etc. There's an especially spooky, heavily guarded mansion which seems to the source of all things hallowweeny that come to life here.

frontierland - go even further back in time and go back to the Wild Wild West Days. Saloons, railroads, and settlements seem to rule these lands here rather than outright law. the Mississippi runs right through here, coming down from the towering Splash Mountain. The horror here would be a blend between domestic and survival, after all that's life out in this little midwestern town. Unlike Main Street, there seems to be a self-sustaining community. They're very friendly, but eerily oblivious to exactly where/how their town exists.

fantasyland - go even FURTHER back in time! Go back to when democracy was just that thing the greeks failed to pull off!! Everything here seems like a color-saturated medieval version of New Orleans. A lot of rides exist here, along with castles and seemingly small residencies for serfs. the matterhorn, that tall, snowy, mountain, is somehow always visible no matter what other parts of the park you're at, but finally is climbable and close in this section.

toontown - the most dangerous part of the park. This is a sort of villain homebase. It's accessible, but tread lightly. The laws of reality aren't obeyed in toon town, and the people who can exploit these rules masterfully are your very captors.

tomorrowland - head into the future! everything seems to distant and vast in this land, to the point where it's kind of isolating and not unexpected to be here totally alone for hours at a time. For some reason, space seems heavily distorted here. There seems to be a network of monorails that will pass by you with blink-and-youll-miss-it speeds, but they're never around when you need them. Luckily, there seems to be random futuristic hovercars available for exploration and to help you get around.

i'd probably need help with coding/consistencies/modwork/more ways to turn the happiest place on earth into a steaming horiffic hell hole but w/e. i guess i'm just trying to field interest and see if this would be something people would want

Bonus Activity Reward Incentives

I'm thinking of starting a pretty standard city game with some monster-fighting and low-key exploring mechanics, mostly because it's the type of game I wanna play in right now and it'd be pretty low upkeep. No heavy plot, but options to be more or less SOL as you choose.

My main question is this. I would like to offer rewards ICly and/or OOCly for players who want to submit threads to be converted into points that can be used as 'currency.'

What kind of incentives would you, as a player, be interested in cashing in your hard-earned activity points for?

I always tend to view activity rewards as something that would be useful for the character in the game, so try and gear towards that. For example - transportation. If you have exploring mechanics, ways of getting there could be useful.

Something I could use to make more threads with. Transportation to a certain area for one person would be okay, but I'd rather have transportation for two because it's easier to turn that into a log. A spooky foreshadowing dream's good, but a random foreshadowing encounter's better because 'attacked by a robot' is more interesting than 'weird dream from bad cooking maybe?'

I like the special assignments/missions idea you had there. It doesn't have to be unique to my character, but it gives me something to be active with.

Things from back home that characters weren't able to take with them. Like vehicles, items they didn't have on their person at the time, even buildings like houses or favorite hangouts.

Horror Game?

Would anyone be interested in a horror game more similar to past horror games like Haven? A group of some sort against the PCs, characters stuck in a run down city/a harsh setting, active plot changing based on how players interact with it, etc? I feel like a lot of games are lacking these days in things that create deep character interactions, or try too hard to cater to the playerbase without keeping the theme of the game strong.

Obviously this doesn't go into setting or detail at all, but a general question. If you saw a game pop up that was a lot like Haven, but not a blatant rip off like the trend seems to be lately, would you be interested?

au fantasy game with politics, war, and slavery

here are my ideas so far! happy to have help, already have a lot of pages up!

premise
in a war-torn continent, what was once a small and stable coastal empire has been in a period of advancement, destroying neighboring kingdoms using powerful blood magic, slavery, and more. with a politically cut-throat culture, these wars are the distraction of an aging emperor who is trying to get his affairs in order. recently, they have brought to heel their largest neighboring kingdom, and gameplay begins in the days after its capital has fallen.

apping
players can app in ocs or canon characters into either of these cultural groups, with the option to be members of either royal family (or their nobility, knights, etc.), and will have a period to hash out relationships. those belonging to the conquered kingdom can machinate pre-existing relationships with the aggressing forces to sell out their own kingdom and be spared, or have been taken as captives and slaves, etc. 50 player cap w/ rolling apps.

themes
dark magic, dog eat dog politics, slavery, stewing rebellion, powerplay. def. an 18+ game.

mechanics
characters gain political or magical power by completing objectives they hide in their app. important npcs, like the emperor, can all be killed or overthrown.

how it would look in action
say you read all the info and you really want to play one of the royal guards of the conquered kingdom, and play out being forced into slavery by one of the empire's nobles. you can either npc that noble or find someone who's playing a noble to be your character's master. on inspecting the roster, you see someone is playing the royal prince, who has managed to hide their identity and is also a slave. together you guys come up with a plot where your royal guards sees and recognizes the crown prince. you make two of your character's hidden goals to secretly kill the prince's master, and make sure he gets claimed afterwards by someone who secretly is a sympathizer with the fallen kingdom and will treat him well. on completing those goals, your character becomes known to other slaves in secret as a 'rebel' figure, and other npc slaves start passing your character actionable and useful intel about goings on at court.

i'm admitting right now that this was inspired/ripped off from the 2007 animated Doctor Strange film which i am now watching on netflix but anyway

at the heart of the multiverse is a nexus from which all other worlds can be accessed. characters are brought to the nexus from their homeworlds because whoever is in charge of this mess senses in them the potential to learn how to bend reality in order to defeat the extradimensional horrors that inhabit the nexus and occasionally break through into other worlds.

canon powers are nerfed on arrival and characters instead develop a unique "magic" style based on the way they perceive and manipulate reality. game would have an overarching plot (probs involving some evil bad guy trying to harness the power of the nexus and rule supreme, etc etc) with gameplay divided into periods of slice-of-life (training and cr-building around the nexus headquarters), routine missions battling monstrosities (on either "home" or "away" missions, defending hq from monsters or traveling to infested worlds to neutralize them) and plot-advancing stuff.

characters start off as baby guardians who are just learning how to manipulate reality. as time passes in-game, they develop new and stronger powers (oocly, this occurs by passing ac and cashing in extra activity rewards). players would have the option of apping "veteran" characters who've been doing this stuff for a while and help with training newcomers, in exchange for more advanced powers.

A game set in a place like in the city in Gravity Rush would be so fun.
