the most welcoming game i've ever been in, people actually tagged out, one network or log post per month was required for ac, and had a surprisingly nice balance of crack and drama. it was fun in a way that doesn't fly in dw's current anemic state

remember when it was blasphemy to have an app cycle that was a whole two weeks long?

yeah yeah, i know what people think about it now and it always had wank, but the premise is super cool and the first events were awesome. everyone was incredibly welcoming, i had an amazing close cr circle and got to play a great character arc.

I probably whined a lot about it in the day, because I recall thinking there was a bit of cliquishness going on with the mods and who got to do what with certain plots, but I still wouldn't have traded it for the world. It was just a ton of fun with lots of unique characters and engaging events.

asgard. what a beautifully put together game and my favorite mod team.

sure, it did sort of peter out at the end due to unforeseen circumstances meaning that only one mod was left to do all the work at the end, but the game meant years of great times and one of the few games where i actually felt like my characters were part of the plot and not just observing from the sidelines. hell, even the npcs were fun, rather than aggravating to deal with.

TBH it kind of makes me sad that it's only ever brought up in a context of "lol what a hot mess" anymore (not that I'm denying shit happened, but sometimes you just want to look back on games without any of that). I loved all the wackiness and unexpected CR I got there and I thought the plot was fun for all of the first season, and for all the wankers and assholes I do know it had, I met and had pretty darn good times with a lot of nice people there.

back before the setting swap to mask or menace, i mean. i've fallen out of contact with them but that was the first game where i really felt included. i had a lot of really great threads there, made a lot of great friends. miss em, man.

Brave New World. I'm a whore for game mechanics, and the blurbs for the Pokemon you catch are hilarious. Mods are fast and friendly. Just a fun experience all around.

how has anyone not mentioned haven yet?

i really like a lot of games i was in, but there was something about haven that was just so special - blue, the mod, put so much love into the setting and characters and the story of the game, and she really valued every player - i remember when she made a boss fight against a monster from my character's super obscure canon all on her own, and that really touched me that she would reach out to gain inspiration from the players and their characters.

overall, i'm so upset it ended the way it did, i made friends there that i still have even years after it closed, and i still hope that blue is doing alright out there, wherever she is :(

The Games. Before Yami and Ali ground it to a halt and before everyone peaced out for endgame, it was the most fun I've ever had. I had great crosscanon CR and was so invested in my character's story arc, which I basically got to play to completion.

Looking back most of my RP back then was embarrassing trash but goddamn if it wasn't fun. I miss having weekly events, torture porn mixed with a healthy dose of crack in between, huge game-changing character-driven plots, and a phenomenal mod team that was always on time with event posts and app processing (save for that one time a mod literally got shot irl, never forget). I've played in dozens of other games since then but I've never quite been able to recapture the experience.

luceti. i've never gotten such a good reception for a character from an obscure canon anywhere else. i'm used to having to fight tooth and nail for cr, but in luceti, i got more tags on my intro post than i knew what to do with.

What it had, and what none of the games I've been in before or since has managed to the same level - though my current one reaches for it, bless! - is that sense of organic community and interconnectedness between all the characters. Everything you did rippled, everyone was into everyone else's conversations, people had reputations, shared histories and IC in-jokes. There was never this feeling of a huge vague setting and your character just doing whatever with their CR in there - which some people like, I guess, but really isn't my cup of tea. The memloss made casts a non-issue and let characters bond for other reasons, and also made for a strong sense of shared experience between characters. Though I've been in games with a good OOC community feel, I don't think I'll ever find another IC community like it. Sometimes I still like to dream up little stories about that world and the lives in it. It's like sitting at the table with old friends.

paradisa between 2007-2009. even the drama was good. no one was afraid to do stupid shit and everyone had fun. probably the high point of my rp life.
