rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Edensphere. Always /crystaltear

What it had, and what none of the games I've been in before or since has managed to the same level - though my current one reaches for it, bless! - is that sense of organic community and interconnectedness between all the characters. Everything you did rippled, everyone was into everyone else's conversations, people had reputations, shared histories and IC in-jokes. There was never this feeling of a huge vague setting and your character just doing whatever with their CR in there - which some people like, I guess, but really isn't my cup of tea. The memloss made casts a non-issue and let characters bond for other reasons, and also made for a strong sense of shared experience between characters. Though I've been in games with a good OOC community feel, I don't think I'll ever find another IC community like it. Sometimes I still like to dream up little stories about that world and the lives in it. It's like sitting at the table with old friends.

hey why haven't we made a legit memloss game since, anyway?

i never got the chance to join edensphere (it closed not long after i came to lj/dwrp) but i always thought total memory loss was an awesome premise for cr.

also, i really liked looking up why characters chose their new names.

not a whole lot of people seem interested in memloss, sadly, at least from what i've gathered. one reason i've seen anons give before is they're afraid players will use it as an excuse to be grossly ooc, which tbh is a pretty legit concern, depending on how the memory loss actually works. in es, the characters' memories were still there but locked away, so they behaved more or less how they did in canon- they just had no idea why. the loss/regain aspects were also integrated into the overall plot and were part of the puzzle characters had to piece together, it wasn't random. and speaking as someone who read and judged apps for es, to pass muster players still had to demonstrate that they knew the character's personality and motivations and had a handle on their voice.

but i can see how players might shy away from the idea of memloss if there's not some sort of solid reasoning behind it, instead of "your character is now a blank slate to project whatever you want onto, have fun!"

I would if I had the time and/or like three co-mods. I have a few concepts kicking around.

I always enjoy looking at them, but I never know who I'd play.
