Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

tbh i understand why it went this way

if negotiations had won, then the away team of like, what 10 people? would get to do a fun thing while the rest of the game sits on their hands watching

doing exactly nothing themselves

fun shit

I'm sure that no matter what, something would have gone wrong. We were told from the start that they didn't really want to negotiate. It seems like a lot of anons are just looking for reasons to be salty.

but then why set up a negotiation group and assign people to it?

it's pretty fair to be salty if you were chosen arbitrarily to have no influence on an important plot

my character was on the negotiation side and I'm not salty because I don't approach RP as a thing that you're supposed to win. Also as others have pointed out, the entire negotiation plan does happen. It fails, but it happens and we get to play it out. It gets a bunch of people trapped on the enemy ship. That's having an influence. I don't understand what would make you happy short of the aliens just agreeing to whatever negotiation was thrown at them and fucking off into space, which is the most boring outcome possible.

i don't see it about winning either. i don't like being assigned to a group without my input that's never going to have an influence on anything

if the groups were opt-in, or anything other than completely randomized for no discernible reason, i'd be completely fine with this plot. that would make me happy

i don't enjoy having been randomly chosen to be separated from most of the game to do stuff that was never intended to accomplish anything. my character is basically a time waster and a bullet sponge, and i didn't have much say in it.

and this is 100% subjective, but i don't care about this recurring plot from last year, before i was in the game. the planet exploding was an accident, and maybe 20 people are still in-game from when it happened in the first place. but now it looks like the july plot is going to mostly be an extremely generic fight log, and my character's role is so unimportant the mods literally handwaved our failure with a heaping side of "now everyone is joining in the spirit of cooperation the captains always wanted, wahey teamwork!"

yes it's whingey, but my interest evaporated the moment i realised that not only is there little to do as a negotiator, but the literal only helpful thing my character can offer is murdering a bunch of grieving strangers. so i'm going to sit this one out.

I like that groups are signups some events and picked for us on others. It forces people to play with those they wouldn't.

The failure isn't handwaved. Everyone gets to play it out. They implied from the start that it wouldn't be successful. And did you even read the post? Nobody has to murder anybody.

i think it helps make new cr when players are split up and can't just sign up with their buddies

not only does the entire negotiation team not have to go, but there are members of the other teams who can go. learn to read.
