Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

can someone please explain to me why britain leaving the EU is SO TERRIBLE without being all #RACISM or sjw about it? that's literally all i'm getting on my timeline.

It destabilized their economy something fierce, and will do the same for several other economies, will probably make immigration matters for Brits living elsewhere in the EU a nightmare to solve, same for EU people living there, and that's just off the top of my head.

Obviously it's complicated but being part of the EU allows for people to easily move and work in all the countries that are part of it as well as easy trade of goods and resources. It's bad for the overall EU because it's a very distabilizing event as Britain was one of the most powerful members in terms of economy and military power. And we can see how the economy took a huge hit today.

Also the racism thing is important because the #Leave campaign really preyed upon fear of immigrants and "others" in their campaign.

yeah, it's all very well to say "don't get all sjw", but even if you ignore unsubstantiated social media reports, journalists have been documenting an uptick in racist abuse all day.

The pound has flatlines and is only getting worse. The economy in Britain has tanked.

And all because some racist assholes didn't want Muslims around.

it wasn't just muslims anon

Basically because the UK is the way everyone outside of the EU trades with the EU, because it's a pain in the ass to deal with their individual rules. Pretty much anything America or China trades to the EU is via the UK, which makes everything a lot smoother and cheaper for the US and China, gets money into the British economy and gets the EU their American and Chinese stuff. The pound is a pretty important world economic feature, being one of the strongest (often considered THE strongest) currency in the world.

Now it's devalued 30 years overnight, so anything trading in sterling has just lost 10% of its value and that's just the start.

It's only getting worse from here.

Oh and now, literally the day afterwards, leave campaign politicians have admited their promises can't be fulfilled, their assertions were untrue and their plans are full of holes.

Not all of them and not all their positions, but the major ones (where money goes and comes from, how much can be spent, the control they'll have on immigration, trade deals they'll get) they've backed down on now they've won.

it's also bad because it paves the way for other countries to follow suit, further destabilizing the union and all of europe.

see the netherlands as a case in point.

and as a counter-argument, see what norway's leader had to say about how being on the outside of the eu isn't the picnic of tea and roses those who voted for it seem to think it will be.

here's a no-nonsense description i found

interesting point: the uk has not left the eu yet, that'll happen at most two years from now
