Rundown:

rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I hope your experience is different from mine, but be aware that the department itself is going to severely limit you in any good you're able to do and will likely have draconian policies that actually prevent you from helping people.

(I got written up once for giving an elderly woman a ride home in 105 degree heat when I saw her carrying grocery bags on foot. "We're not a taxi service!" was the chewing out I got.)

I also got death threats from fellow officers and people failing to back me up because I reported a case of abuse of a handcuffed prisoner. The officer who did it lied and claimed the prisoner wasn't handcuffed and was a danger. The truth eventually came out. It didn't take away the fact that I nearly got killed by a convicted felon because someone in dispatch who was on the side of the abuser kept covering traffic every time I tried to radio in my location.

I stayed through all of that bullshit. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was being asked to tear up tickets for a doctor friend of my new shift sergeant. I realized that it was always going to be a case of having to turn a blind eye or actually being expected to do shady shit just to stay alive in that job, and it was not at all worth it.

It's not the criminals who will drive you out of that job. It's your fellow officers and supervisors. Not everyone in the department was corrupt. Enough of them were to make me believe one person is more likely to get absorbed in the corruption, killed, or driven out than make any kind of difference in the long run. Good luck. You'll need it.
