Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Just had a couple questions since I'm shopping around for a game. I like the setting and look of this one but I've heard it's blown up in size in the past couple months.

What's the pace like? How does it change between/during events?

If I'm someone who can only do a handful of tags per day, am I likely to fall behind? Do people generally backtag, or will they drop threads if they're not being boomeranged?

Are logs or network threads more popular?

(And also since I guess it's kind of relevant lately) for anyone that's been in the game for a while, what sort of tone can be expected after all these murder rules? Is it more exploration, or humor, or slice of life in space, etc.?

The pace is what you make of it. There's an event at the beginning and one in the middle of each month. The events are take them or leave them, and you can do as much or as little as you want.

I'm slow tagging and people backtag and I've always had fun. The beginning of the month is usually busier because people tag to get threads started sooner.

I've noticed logs and networks to be equally popular. Though the first event log is usually the most tagged.

I've been in game a while now and some players pushed the focus to murder plots, which has nothing to do with the premise. There's a lot of complaining going on right now because it was cut out and the mods/players are trying to find the best resolution. Tbh, it'll all blow over when the crybabies stop whining and let the mods adjust to what is most wanted. I've been in about eight months now? And every time the mods have altered something, they've listened to their players and done the best for the majority. This just has a lot of attention because unfortunately every big game will get wankers and whiners and people that can't keep calm and be mature.

As for the tone, it'll be what it was originally before characters began murdering each other. The events range from horror to scifi to humor and players can involve themselves in whichever they want to most.

it looks to me like the players are fine with the no murder part of the new rule. it's when the mods start throwing around this new "intent" rule when people get confused

this

characters aren't allowed to fight anymore without actively caring about not killing at all points during the fight. if they slip up and lunge at a pc out of anger, they're icly booted from the ship

there's a lot the game dose well and if you want to play space sol and friendship jump right in. but at least until the mods have time to reconsider I wouldn't play anyone morally gray. people are dropping those characters and rolling back canon updates even with heroes now

since there are "cameras everywhere and the captains have ~abilities~ that can judge intent" this is definitely stepping in to thoughtcrime territory

which is really interesting as a horror plot/source of conflict but i'm not sure that's what they intended

i was going to app but i've changed my mind because of this. the irony is that the character i was planning isn't even a villain - he's a hero, but he's also hotheaded and impulsive and while he would never actually kill someone on purpose, he can easily get mad enough to WANT to kill them for a few moments before he calms down. i'd rather not spend my time worrying over whether my character's introspection in tags is going to get him tossed in the hold even if he doesn't actually kill anyone at all.

I would just wait and see how things shake out with this rather than writing it off entirely. I play a hot-headed character and I'm not really worried. I think once things settle, that's not going to be an issue and it's just poor wording.

i could, but there was another game i was also considering and this was sort of the thing that tipped the scale, you know? i'd rather just go for the other game where i know for sure that i don't have to worry about that.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-24 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
This is really upsetting to see. I don't blame you, anon, if I were deciding, I'd be really tempted to write it off altogether.

For the record, anon, whoever you are, I know I would be excited to have you here. And even if the mods can't be, I'll be sorry for them. This scaring away of potential players over semantics they refuse to clear up is ridiculous.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep thinking that it's maybe just a wording issue, too, and that the mods don't really mean it "like that", but at the same time, when people have raised concerns about the implications and pretty much asked upfront if they do in fact mean it like that, we're basically getting a Yes from the mods over and over. In the name of "being firm", of course.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-06-24 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
there's "being firm", and then there's being unreasonably stubborn. this is just ridiculous, I'm amazed that the mods thought this would be a good idea.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-24 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
From what I've read on that post and plurk, they were trying to appease too many people by giving them the specifics that they wanted and it snowballed. They let it get out of their hands and now it's a mess. Another anon said they were taking a step back to let everyone cool down and considering what I've seen that's probably best. Give it some time it's not like apps are even open until next month.

This... wouldn't happen, though. The rule doesn't apply to that situation.

the current tone is "everyone is butthurt about the rule change, except for the people that are butthurt over other people being butthurt". i say avoid the game until the mods pull their heads out of their asses and learn to properly compromise.

and by that I mean it looks like the mods just want this to be an SOL in space game.

avoiding the game until anything happens is kind of hard when you guys only have the one more app period.

Its kind of now or never for any of us interested anons.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-22 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
i'd completely forgotten about that part, anon. i'm sorry :(

thread op

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I was actually totally unaware of that.

I was going to wait and see but yeah, that makes things pretty tough.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
it's not one more app period ever, it's more like not having an app period in september and apps opening again sometime after that. that's still a long time, but people who are interested after that will still have chances.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
no one knows when after that. that's the problem. people are less likely to waste their chances on an unknown.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Jesus, do the mods just not want anyone to ever app to their game at this point?

Re: dda

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they have to many people for their "we can barley run our spaceship so everyone has to pitch in" idea to work". Then again a lot of the premise would have anyone I would app in side eyeing the NPC Captains.

ddda?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-24 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
honestly a little time where the game isn't the new shiny to app into and letting the flakes and shit drop out might leave the game in a better state then it has ever been. Only people who actually are good for long term play will be left after awhile.
