Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

what's the longest time you've ever spent on a video game

i've been working on playing this one jrpg for 4 years. i'm about half way through it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I still haven't beat tetris and unless there were earlier versions I got my first one back in '92 on the original gameboy.

...But I guess you're probably not looking for tongue in cheek answers, are you?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
probably skyrim? if we're counting just story mode/campaign whatever. i've had it since 2012, 200 hours in, still play it on and off, haven't finished the main quest.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
i still haven't finished inquisition.

i finished the other da games in weeks at the most, but the shoehorning of the sandbox shit in inquisition makes the game drag on and on and on and on and i've gotten bored.

+1

Exactly the same, anon. It's too bad because I do like the plot and the characters, but the gameplay is just not fun.

me too! i love the story and the characters, but it just takes too goddamned long to actually do the stupid little quests in order to get back to the story.

It's also kinda sad how it feels like all the little quests don't mean much. In the Hinterlands, at first it felt like you were doing stuff to make life better for refugees, but as the areas get less populated it feels more and more like you're not helping anyone. If we actually saw what we were doing have an effect on more of the areas (like people returning to their homes and villages), it would feel more rewarding. There are a few areas that do that but not enough to keep me engaged.

My family bought Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future when it came out, I started it but didn't get past the first chapter of the game until I was in my tweens because the game terrified me, and now as of 2016, I've been plugging in the Dreamcast about every season for the past approx. 7 years to revisit it and I'm still stuck on Hanging Waters.

this is literally me tho i finally finished it

transformation or whatever the name of one of the final levels is super messed up

AYRT

(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha, I wasn't expecting that. Congrats, anon!

And man, I still love how well the game holds up, not only in fun factor but in how nice it looks.

i even got stuck on hanging waters too! i played it before gamefaqs was a thing so i had no idea how to get past those levels as a child. upon finally finishing it i had the most bizarre experience. you know in atlantis lost, how you can go in that museum and look at x-rays of... things? things that look sort of like animals but not really? i had nightmares about those odd shapes and always wondered what the fuck they were. in the last levels of the game, post-hanging waters, you see those things as enemies.

mind. fucking blown.

they're really annoying creepy ass enemies to boot. anyway story time over i just had to share my weird experience with this weird game with someone who understands.

not counting mmorpgs and games i've been giving a replay to now and then for years, probably the first Dark Souls. played it pretty consistently for like three years.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
i spent years on threads of fate because i sucked at games that required to actually make my character move so they wouldn't die. it was 2010 when i finally beat that game and it felt good. one of my favorite games to date.

i also spent a long time on ps1 harvest moon when i was a kid. but mostly because i'd make a new file after playing one after a year to marry a different girl each time.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Harvest Moon on the N64. I got well into my sixth or seventh year on one game, plus a couple dozen other playthroughs so I could marry all the girls and unlock all the stuff. To a lesser degree, probably Animal Crossing for the GameCube and currently Stardew Valley on PC.

I am predictable.

that's adorable anon

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Steam tells me I've spent over 800 hours in Crusader Kings II...

But if we're talking things with a linear progression and an end point, I spent two years semi-regularly attempting Gitaroo Man's master difficulty and never got through the third stage. Fuck that bee.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
you sound like my kind of anon. I'm up to 911 hours.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
i spent five years on ocarina of time

mostly because i fucked up the boss room entrance of the water temple and ended up doing everything else on the adult side out of order, without strategy guides, at a relatively young age

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I've had Ocarina of Time for over a decade and I've still never bothered to actually go through with the final boss fight.

I've ended up doing the same thing with Twilight Princess.

I've started replaying both of them over again instead of just finishing.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
In terms of hours played: Skyrim. I have over 500 hours sunk into just ONE playthrough of that game.

In terms of playing it for years and I haven't finished it yet: about half of my RPGs for PS2. At this point I have owned them for a decade and have not finished most of them.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I started playing Morrowind in 2008. I always get to the quest where you have to go do a bunch of dumb tiny shit all across the continent to convince the factions you are Nerevarine and Hortator, and I always say this time I'm going to complete it. Inevitably, something happens and I lose interest. By the time I pick it up again I've completely forgotten what I'm doing and must start over.

Someday, anons. Someday.

THE MEAT CIRCUSSSSSSS

i love psychonauts but i will never finish it

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I actually have to go into detail about the Civilization series or does merely naming it say everything?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-20 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Majora's Mask. I've worked on it on and off for years. There's just so much to do in the game. I can't believe anyone ever finished it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-22 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
i spent hundreds of hours playing ffxii using a guidebook assist for extra completionist fervour and then when i finally decided to go up to the airship to play through the endgame at around hour 150 my console refused to load it.

after a lot of troubleshooting i ended up giving up on ever getting it to load, and starting again, just speeding through, but life got busy and replaying dropped massively in priority and i stopped playing it.

years later i decided to pick it up again but i realised i was too far in to easily remember my skill board strategy and how to combat and where the plot was at etc so i started it over again and went back to playing it properly, though without the guide, and finally finished it. all in all i probably spent 200+ hours on a 30 hour game.
