Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-25 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)And out of curiosity, how long have you been writing smut for? Did you notice your style change drastically from when you started until now?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-25 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)I've been writing smut for, um, almost 20 years? And yeah, my style has changed from the beginning, but it hasn't changed in a long time, since I found the way I liked writing and haven't really veered from there. Creature of habit, me.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 01:41 am (UTC)(link)unless you want to get into the argument of playing smut while underage against an adult, which is a whole 'nother can of worms.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-25 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)Establishing a mood is very important to me though, so I use adjectives with actions and dialogue to keep it from being overly clinical. I think everyone has their sweet spot of writing, and I'm not even always consistent with it. But that's also why I'm not a professional writer.
I've been writing smut for going on fifteen years. I don't have any of my older stuff saved, but I think my writing style's evolved a lot in that time.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-25 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)i'm pretty clear about what's happening. cocks are going into holes, skin is dragging against skin, butts are getting stretched full, etc. i'd say i split it between physical actions/sensations and emotional shit but that's because i'm usually playing some kind of kink, and there's a lot of ways to feel about that.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 05:36 am (UTC)(link)although yeah, i was definitely one of those asshole kids who was like "my parents won't care!" and lied about my age to be in adult spaces, which i am fully ashamed of

(Anonymous) 2016-06-25 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)As for positions and emotions and stuff, I tend to swap between based on what needs clarifying and what needs moving along. I love banter and fuck-ups during smut so I'll slip those in whenever seems appropriate.
I've been writing for about ten years I think, and I started late to the game. I started off barely referencing the actual activities because I was so body-shy I got embarrassed trying to describe the actual acts. Now I'm comfortable and like using smut as a way to explore a character's relationship or to explore their specific kinks, so I guess it's gotten better. More specific and to the point I think.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-25 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)then we parted ways and it was a long time before i played smut again. i tried again with another rp partner years later, but i found myself getting stuck and thread dropping a lot.
i'm still like that now, and i'm almost in my 30s. i can take or leave smut scenes. when i DO want to write them i get stuck in the middle of a scene and usually drop the god damn thread
it frustrates me too sorry guys

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)If you find yourself on the verge of dropping a thread that you otherwise were enjoying, I'd recommend throwing your RP partner a line and asking if it's cool to move things along, or if you have an idea for something that might derail the characters, that works sometimes. If you're on good terms with the other player you can sometimes just throw this into the mix, but I find it's better to touch base OOC first just to make sure nobody is going to go 'wtf?'
when you do find yourself wanting to write smut, is there a particular kind of character or situation that you're getting into? Is it too similar to when you were younger? You could also try throwing different characters with different experience levels into the mix, or possibly exploring different situations or kinks... I'm sure you know all of this already, I'm just trying to be one of those nosy helpful anons.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 12:30 am (UTC)(link)i also think i have problems writing anal sex. that's my least favorite m/m sex act and it's also the most popular on dw
i'm trying to shake things up now and write some anonymous smut, because like i said sometimes i think being shy plays in to it, so we'll see how that goes

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 12:42 am (UTC)(link)I've been wanting to get into the writing anonymous smut scene for a change-up but I keep getting dropped threads. I think I need some crit or something because I'm not sure if I'm being boring.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 12:28 am (UTC)(link)if it's shippy, or if it's a kink thread where the kink is less sensory and more about the emotional dynamic (like devotion or trust or w/e), i'm a little more vague with the physical actions. not because they're not important, but because i like my tags to "flow", so if i can slip a few words of choreography into a sentence that's about feelings and get across what's happening that way, it's less obtrusive than breaking rhythm to be clinical.
not sure how to quantify how much is what because i like to roll it all together. if the scene gets more physical, sentences get choppier and more physical to reflect character perception. introspection and imagery happen in the same space because i identify things as the character notices them. physical actions get embellished with emotional responses via adverby qualities. it all just kinda happens
been writing smut since i turned 18 three years ago. i was shit at first but got better pretty quickly i think? my style's stayed pretty consistent but when i started i had no idea how to interpret my (canon) characters as sexual beings so they didn't resemble themselves until i thought it through more.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 02:05 am (UTC)(link)I'd say more than anything it's gotten more fluid. In RP I tend to match my partner, the characters, and the tone and purpose of the thread. I've had partners who were all about the hardcore language and focus on the physicality, and others who shy away from that a lot more. I think my own style in a vacuum tends to the middle, but very dependent on circumstance either way.
Sometimes I notice myself getting bored with my style or falling into one I don't like, so I make conscious efforts to adjust. Right now I'm more into testing the waters with smuttier language and more banter/dirty talk, at least when it's appropriate to the characters and scene. But sometimes it's just not. I've definitely gotten more shameless over time, though.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 06:52 am (UTC)(link)I try to balance everything out, and like above anons, it varies depending on the setting, characters, kinks, etc, but I do admit to being more focused on description and sensory information than emotional meta. I feel like I write better smut scenes when I include scents, taste, sounds, sensations, and the like. most of my characters aren't big on talking during sex so dialogue isn't much of a concern at all.
but hoo boy has my style changed. I cut my teeth on MU* cybersex and moved to aim chat style, so my first few smut threads in ljrp were hilariously short and terse. I rediscovered some recently and can't believe I thought I was writing totally great sex. so glad I've changed into a paragraph-spewing monster.
