what is your current job? do you like it?

I'm a massage therapist and it's the best job in the world. Though, i am hoping to move into police work in a couple of years.

As a former officer I cannot strongly enough recommend you stay out of police work, unless you like working for shitstains and scumbags who are corrupt and more often than not racist af.

i currently work for law enforcement as well and i am echoing that you should not do this unless you are an extremely resilient person

the ugliness you will wind up being exposed to, all the hurt and pain and awfulness of the human condition day after day after day, is psychologically damaging to even the strongest people

high paying retail. i guess it like it. i wouldn't like any job because of course i'd rather be doing shit i want to do instead of being expected to do specific tasks on a schedule, but it's fine. i don't dread clocking in and i make enough to keep myself comfortable and entertained. that's all i really want

as a person in low paying retail, this sounds pretty good tbh.

I work in a factory. It's not bad. Pays better than retail (which is the only other type of job I've had) that's for damn sure.

i work in a call center. it's the most soul deadening thing you can imagine. i desperately want another job but my degree is useless and retail would be a step down in pay that i truly cant afford.

i work retail. i don't mind it, surprisingly enough. naturally there are days i want to just sleep in and not have to deal with customers/co-workers, but i feel it's manageable.

am getting transferred to a new store soon so hopefully atmosphere isn't unbearable!

main admin, client communications, and marketing and firm development person at a law office

it's pretty tolerable, is how i'd describe it. i don't love my job, but i'm pretty good at it, i like my coworkers, and i know my boss really appreciates my contributions, so i'm content to stay. downsides are that i'm doing about 3.5 peoples' jobs right now and get spread too thin, so i've been working a lot of overtime (that i'm not paid for), anything i do is constantly interrupted, and my boss is the least efficient human being on the planet.

I work in a university in student services. I basically have to know everything about the university's procedures, policies and support networks and find answers to any and all questions students and staff bring to me.

On the one hand, I really love this job because I love higher education and I'm very good at what I'm doing here, and on the other I really dislike all the bureaucracy. Overall though, I find I love my job more often than I hate it.

Sales manager in a call center. The company actually treats its employees very well and some of the upper managers are pretty great people so we don't have as much of the morale problem as other call center jobs but there's still a lot of stress and bs that comes with it. Pay and benefits-wise it allows me to live comfortable and securely. For the most part the good outweighs the bad.

full-time writer. love it, it was my dream job. everyone told me not to do it, that i wouldn't make enough to live on. i really think they were just trying to discourage me for personal reasons, because i've never even dreamt of the amount of money i have now.

personal reasons and because for every artist that makes it, there are dozens more who don't for one reason or another. it's a risky business to get into if you don't have a backup plan.

Had an office job. Hated it.

Switched to indie dev (web, apps, games, I do whatever). Love it. I set my own hours, don't have to spend a good 2 hours of my day bussing to work, and I live right next to my town's waterpark/amusement park and have a year's pass (which is hella cheap for locals because most of the money is from tourists). I go to the park in the morning for a few hours when it's not busy and then come back and do my work, pretty much.

I'm a research assistant (as part of a grad program but it get a salary and tuition benefits in exchange for doing the job)

I've been a research assistant for various labs and projects for about 6 years now and I really like it, but I much preferred the 8 months I spent as a legislative assistant for a nonprofit. I needed more schooling to get a permenant position so here I am back again. Both of these jobs appeal to me because learning is inherently part of the job.

Oh and to be clear, I may be a grad student now but I have been working as a research assistant and not a grad student for most of those 6 years

I'm a civil rights lawyer. I like it about 80% of the time, and the other 20% tends to be office culture bullshit that has nothing to do with my actual position. The pay is pretty mediocre compared to how much I owe in student debt, how expensive cost-of-living is here, and how much overtime I pull. I guess the frustrating thing is how much administrative and networking stuff I have to do, when really I just want to talk to clients and do legal research and write up petitions and briefs for them, but that's just non-profit life. Most of my workday today is just emailing people asking them if they want to donate to our fundraiser.

Part-time teacher and freelancer. The teaching gig is my stable income since I'm still struggling with getting more freelance jobs, but I'm enjoying myself anyway since I work my own hours instead of a corporate clock. However, I think I also miss the office since having a stable income is nice, though not enough to go back just yet.

I work in PR for book publishing!

It's okay. I like our books and the stuff I do is interesting, but I'm beginning to get overwhelmed by my office being perpetually understaffed and overworked. The pay and benefits are pretty good, though, and since there aren't many of us my job's secure... so I want to stay until I can find something that pays better and is just as stable.

i work retail in a city with a higher-than-average minimum wage. my company has great benefits for part-time workers and i make enough to get by without having to pull a 40 hour work week.

i like it all right, since it's more physical labor than dealing with customers, and our store is very small and family-like. but i do feel like my brain is going to waste away if i stay working there too long since it's all pretty mindless work. i'd like to try and do something with my degree, but i'm just not motivated enough to care.

I work at a university library. It's a good job with good benefits (including free tuition), flexible hours, and zero patron interaction. I like it, because we're essentially back of house for the library, and it's an interesting and niche field. There are also some very monotonous tasks, but I tend to put on a podcast and coast through those.

My only major complaint is that I am on contract and have zero job security, so my life has to be planned in four-month increments. :( I really hate how standard job insecurity has become for my generation.

i work sales at an online school. basically i contact students and ask them what courses they're needing to maintain their professional license, and then sign them up for those courses. it's not bad at all, i only talk to people who are already students so it's not like i'm calling randos who are getting pissed off at me all the time, and i make a good amount of money.
