Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

I think it the most tactless and tasteless thing ever to reserve the same day someone drops a character. Even more when cast mates of that character get all excited about the new character like the old one never mattered. I'm not even remotely related to the cast in any way but it makes me sick to see.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Do you also get full of RAEG when someone takes the seat of someone getting off the bus?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not, but if the person had a lot of cr with their other bus-mates and became personal friends with them I might.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
lmao you're retarded

stop trying to make this a thing

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, bro. I didn't know this was a thing. Almost never get on here unless I'm angry about something that I need to vent. Which is what I just did.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
you're a loser :)

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
...Seriously, just deal with it. Someone else wants to play a character that someone else doesn't want to anymore. It's not "erasing" the previous player from existence. Don't be petty.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wow I am not even taking this personally. But if it was me, I'd probably be pretty upset if someone jumped on it several hours if I dropped. Most people would say the same.

I don't think it's the worst thing you can do in rp, but yeah, it's kind of rude.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Vent all you like but just saying now, your opinion is an unpopular opinion for a reason - because it's irrational and dumb and possessive, and I pity the player for being "too fast" in your eyes.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
How is it possessive when I'm not even remotely related to the cast or previous player? I never even so much as tagged them or me them. If anything, I'm more sad for them that someone's already looking to replace them when they haven't even finished saying their goodbyes.

Maybe it's just me, but dropping a game or character has never been easy. I've never even been in that position before, but I don't think I'd like it if it happened so fast. Maybe a few days later, but not even 24 hours?

Let's consider this other scenario - someone does pick the character up because they think they'll play them better than the last person, and they leap on the character the second it's available like a vulture.

...So what?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
How is that another scenario? That's basically what I figure is going on here and it's pretty rude either way.

at this moment I'm waiting for the finalization of AC in my game so that the person that's been character squatting for months can finally get booted and the person I found that I adore for the character can reserv and app in.

no regrets.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
See, I feel differently about being dropped through AC vs physically dropping. If dropped through AC I figure the character couldn't be assed to so much as announce anything, it's free game. But if the person takes the time and consideration to let everyone know they're dropping, say goodbye, etc then I feel like it holds more weight.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder if we're in the same game. I don't know of anyone who wants their place, but I'm so over this one castmate who's supposed to be so important to mine but is basically nonexistent.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'll keep doing it.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen this happen and didn't have a problem with it. The mun acknowledged that may have been fast on the jump, but they loved the character for fucking ever and really wanted to try playing them. And then they were great. So no regrets.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Taking RP too seriously there.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Been in that position, where I dropped and a castmate of mine jumped the gun - dropping who they played to reserve the character that I just dropped.

I had like IMs and people pretending to be offended on my behalf and honestly dude, I didn't give a fuck. I dropped cause of lack of time to RP and a lack of voice for said character, if someone else wants to play, I'm fine with that.

Props to them, I mean it's just RP.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I could agree with you if it was a scenario like... someone who was in the game for years and well-loved having what basically amounts to an IC sendoff, only to have the character return the next day with no memories of being there. THAT'S a little sketchy, even if it's technically okay.

But the moment you drop, your character is free. You can't expect to be the only one ever, especially if it's a large game or popular/rare cast.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
if you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Once, at old job, a colleague of mine quit. In the interest of tact and politeness, I decided to wait a day before asking if I could have his computer to replace my shitty one.

The computer was sniped by a less tactful co-worker.

Point in Case: Sometimes it doesn't pay to wait around. Maybe the person who reserved didn't want to be beaten to the punch.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
My god, you're an idiot. The MOST tactless and tasteless thing?

If I want to play a character that someone has finally given up, I am jumping on it, not because I NEED TO REPLACE THE OLD PLAYER IMMEDIATELY but because I want to, because I want to play that character and at this game and I'm excited to get a chance to. I'm sure that the cast mates are excited because they just gained their lost cast member back. Neither implies either way that a) I am being disrespectful or b) they never cared.

It's only that way if you PERCEIVE it that way like a whiny insecure fuck. All you care about is wah wah how upset that person (are they even?) must be when tons of people don't care, at all, so who are you railing against here, really? You're just airing out all your insecurities for people to see under the guise of a righteous complaint.
