Thankee sai

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

Hey! This is the designated catch-all entry. This is not an invitation to spam to your heart's content. The same rules apply.

Vent all you like but just saying now, your opinion is an unpopular opinion for a reason - because it's irrational and dumb and possessive, and I pity the player for being "too fast" in your eyes.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
How is it possessive when I'm not even remotely related to the cast or previous player? I never even so much as tagged them or me them. If anything, I'm more sad for them that someone's already looking to replace them when they haven't even finished saying their goodbyes.

Maybe it's just me, but dropping a game or character has never been easy. I've never even been in that position before, but I don't think I'd like it if it happened so fast. Maybe a few days later, but not even 24 hours?

HAHAHAHAHAHA

if you drop a game there is no grace period

the character is free game as soon as you put in your notice

you're acting like there's some kind of etiquette here but this is roleplaying. this is a stupid hobby. we're all sad nerds playing pretend except we don't even go outside to do it

who

really

fucking cares

your turn is over, let someone else have theirs

you have no say in what happens in the game after you leave anyway

why would you care what goes on in a game that does not involve you anymore, by your own choice no less

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well. I grew up on games that did have a grace period and in an era that it was more common. Maybe that's why I find it rather rude and offensive.

Contrary to popular belief, once upon a time RP had a lot better etiquette in general.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
lmao dude i've been playing on journals since at least 2005 and i played in chats and forums before that

stop trying to wave your golden oldies flag. it wasn't any better back then. i promise

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, wasn't even trying to a little. I was merely stating that maybe that's why it bothered me so much. Because the games I grew up in did have these rules.

And I'm sorry to say, I've never seen such terrible behavior in RP until the last three-four years or so. Where I played, at least, no one would have thought to have done anything like that out of respect for the other play. Does that mean other games were exactly the same? Of course not. But mine were that way.

well, okay, i remember hideous wank all the time, mods that would shut everything down at the drop of a hat because they could, damning fake chat edits, backstabbing, and constant brps posts about each other, but let's assume you did come from a perfect bubble. you're in a whole new world now, grandma, and i hope you see now how dumb it is to raise a stink on someone else's behalf

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, my perfect rp bubble was pretty perfect and what I'd kill to get it back rather than deal with this kind of bs regularly. Okay, so wank and butthurt players happened, but not to the level that things happen now.

Maybe this Grandma is looking at things through rose-tinted glasses, but it doesn't change the fact that it's rude and they should be ashamed of themselves.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
it isn't rude though. it's you looking too far in to it and taking it personally when 1) you shouldn't and 2) it's not even your character

if it gets your flappy panties in such a twist then make a game where there's a required grace period and get the fuck out of the way of those of us who want to do some rping instead of sitting around and thumbing our buttholes for a week

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I was under the impression most games don't even have weekly app periods anymore so I'm pretty sure you'd be thumbing your buttholes regardless of when you reserved the character.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
if that's the case why are you so fucking offended then

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:11 am (UTC)(link)

Condescend harder.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so I was just lucky and played in games where people actually respected one another. Sorry the rest of you weren't.

da

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm impressed. You're a good condescender!

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I make a living out of it.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not everyone finds it hard to drop a character. Maybe you want a mourning period to honor the loss of previous CR - I suppose that's valid. But it's not really a big deal if someone else takes up the character, and simple enough to find IC ways to explain around.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Dropping a game is easy when I don't find it a good fit for me.
Dropping a game is easy when I find myself not posting anything for two weeks but don't miss it.
Sometimes I would feel difficult to let go of character A, but would drop character B easily and be glad someone take them up.
Not everyone care equally about different games and characters.

Now, if it's not even your character, why are you feeling second hand resentment for the person whose character is dropped and picked up? Let them side-eye if they want to, let them not give a fuck if they want to.
