rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. (Anonymous) 2012-03-03 07:19 am (UTC)(link)Terraria RP?
(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)Characters finding themselves in the World of Terraria, only given a few basic necessities, having to rely on themselves or others for help (since Guide would just chill around and watch them do things while spouting helpful tips while being a dick).
I don't know what to do for communication, though. Multiplayer has a chat that allows players to speak to everyone, regardless of distance, so I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate that. NO cellphones or technological devices, that's for sure. Maybe magical journals? I would say face-to-face but given how large of a world Terraria can be, not everyone would be able to interact that way.
But uh right this turned into a ramble.
tl;dr: Terraria based game: YES OR NO?

(Anonymous) - 2012-03-01 19:24 (UTC) - ExpandRifts-based DR
(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)I had an idea for a panfandom dressing room based on the Rifts tabletop RPG by Palladium games.
Basically, rifts earth is a post-apocalyptic world charged with magical and psychic energies. This energy is focused through ley lines which cross the planet's surface. Where those ley lines converge are nexus points. Rifts are basically rips in the dimensional fabric which open along ley lines and at nexus points, and can lead to and from just about anywhere - another continent, another world, a parallel dimension, whatever. They're largely unpredictable and uncontrollable natural occurrences. People and creatures that arrive through rifts are called D-Bees (Dimensional Beings) and the planet is full of them.
By coming and going through rifts, characters could arrive and leave the world any time players like, and it's even possible that they could take groups of characters back to their own worlds, so there would be a pretty limitless number of options for what people could do and where they could do it. But there would also be region-by-region descriptions of rifts earth and some connected worlds. (Palladium has published a lot of world and dimension books to draw material from.)
So, for example, on rifts earth, Atlantis has "surfaced" (actually, it returned from another dimension) and is ruled by a race of demonic alien slavers who maintain a huge market there. England has become largely a domain of enchantment and mystical plant life with a huge, sentient Millennium Tree that is big enough that a whole city lives in its branches. The New German Republic is home to a huge corporation which makes mecha and power armor. And in Africa, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have appeared.
There are all kinds of native magical items and innovations like tattoo magic which some players might want their characters to get their hands on too.
I'm imagining that there'd be a combination of open posts which could give people inspiration and setting descriptions/prompts and then people could make individual character posts in addition. (So format-wise, it would be a bit like TLH.)
How does this sound to you, anons? Would there be any interest? I wouldn't want to sink time into it if no one likes the idea.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-02 12:14 am (UTC)(link)It's a kind of brilliant twist, because it's a Panfandom game, but every single universe a character might come from is actually just a 'game' played by the user. The Command.COM, Guardian, and whoever else has started salvaging sprites from all the games to help them keep Mainframe from falling into ruin. Everything you knew to be real is still real... just not quite in the way you thought it was before.
Once they arrive in Mainframe, they're more or less basic sprites. They can regain their old powers (or find new ones) by signing up to work for the Guardian (someone like Bob) or allowing themselves to corrupt into viruses (like Megabyte). There might be other optional paths people can take for the less heroic or villainous, such as becoming hackers, web surfers, pirates, and so on. They could also just go find a job at a shop and to day-to-day type stuff.
Events would be caused by the interactions of the faceless and unknown User. These might come in the form of software upgrades (adding something new to the RP), accidental software glitches (causing your typical experiment/curse type events), trojan horses (unleashing hostiles into the game), or whatever. On top of that, players could arrange to have their characters caught in a 'Game Cube' whenever they wanted. This is where it gets fun.
Say Mario, Cloud, and Sonic all get caught in a Game Cube together. That Game Cube is one about Lord of the Rings. Those three characters are adapted into different random roles in the game once they 'reboot'. Mario might end up as Frodo, Cloud as Gimli, and Sonic as Gandalf. They would then have to complete the 'game' in order to be returned to the normal RP setting. Fortunately even if they suck, they'd never lose and get nullified. One of the guardians will always intercept a Game Cube and will be around to save people at the last second if they aren't super awesome.
Dropped characters, on the other hand, would end up in a Game Cube and lose, thus resulting in being nullified. The Command.COM would take them in and do [INSERT HANDWAVEY STUFF HERE] to restore them to sprites to be returned into a Game Cube, so they can be 'reformatted' into their original selves.
Anyway, just an idea. I don't have time to run the game, but I came up with it driving home. Someone is free to steal it if they think it's neato.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-04 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)a worldbuilding game
(Anonymous) 2012-03-07 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)When the characters are apped into the game, they bring in one thing that changes the setting somehow. For example, Character A may be from a world where the roads are actually waterways, like in Venice, so suddenly the roads in the city are waterways and all the cars are boats. Or maybe Character B is from a world where everyone keeps dinosaurs for pets, so suddenly the nondescript 'pets' are all dinosaurs.
Along with bringing one change whenever someone is apped, once a month there would be a game of some sort, and the winner of the game would get to bring one change from their home world to this world. Also there would be other ways to earn the right to make changes, possibly through buying the right? And changes could be overwritten by other changes, so if Character A decided that he didn't like Character B's pet dinosaurs he could win a plot game and change the pets in the city to normal dogs or something else. The plot of the game would be that this is a new universe, but it needs to be shaped in a creative manner, and once the Gods are satisfied with the changes made they'll let everyone go home.
Does this sound interesting?
