Everything is under control

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

Concerns?

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.

Reboot-based game

So picture this. One day you're doing your own thing, the next thing you're in a Mainframe type setting. You've just been told you've been 'salvaged' from a Game Cube (not the Nintendo one) and your help is needed to restore Mainframe to its former glory.

It's a kind of brilliant twist, because it's a Panfandom game, but every single universe a character might come from is actually just a 'game' played by the user. The Command.COM, Guardian, and whoever else has started salvaging sprites from all the games to help them keep Mainframe from falling into ruin. Everything you knew to be real is still real... just not quite in the way you thought it was before.

Once they arrive in Mainframe, they're more or less basic sprites. They can regain their old powers (or find new ones) by signing up to work for the Guardian (someone like Bob) or allowing themselves to corrupt into viruses (like Megabyte). There might be other optional paths people can take for the less heroic or villainous, such as becoming hackers, web surfers, pirates, and so on. They could also just go find a job at a shop and to day-to-day type stuff.

Events would be caused by the interactions of the faceless and unknown User. These might come in the form of software upgrades (adding something new to the RP), accidental software glitches (causing your typical experiment/curse type events), trojan horses (unleashing hostiles into the game), or whatever. On top of that, players could arrange to have their characters caught in a 'Game Cube' whenever they wanted. This is where it gets fun.

Say Mario, Cloud, and Sonic all get caught in a Game Cube together. That Game Cube is one about Lord of the Rings. Those three characters are adapted into different random roles in the game once they 'reboot'. Mario might end up as Frodo, Cloud as Gimli, and Sonic as Gandalf. They would then have to complete the 'game' in order to be returned to the normal RP setting. Fortunately even if they suck, they'd never lose and get nullified. One of the guardians will always intercept a Game Cube and will be around to save people at the last second if they aren't super awesome.

Dropped characters, on the other hand, would end up in a Game Cube and lose, thus resulting in being nullified. The Command.COM would take them in and do [INSERT HANDWAVEY STUFF HERE] to restore them to sprites to be returned into a Game Cube, so they can be 'reformatted' into their original selves.

Anyway, just an idea. I don't have time to run the game, but I came up with it driving home. Someone is free to steal it if they think it's neato.

I approve of this idea.
