F/F space opera game
(Anonymous) 2012-12-24 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)Seems worth bringing up. Discuss, if you are so inclined.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-25 03:01 am (UTC)(link)Re: F/F space opera game
(Anonymous) 2012-12-25 03:15 am (UTC)(link)Encouraging F/F would make a lot of sense on a long-term space mission. I've seen the idea pop up more than once in scifi. Basically, there's this type of chimpanzee called a "bonobo," and the female-dominated bonobo society uses sex as a way to maintain social bonds, resolve conflicts, and preserve hierarchies. Any kind of stress or new event seems to make bonobos want to have sex, and F/F sex is especially important to their society. They also engage in the most human-like sexual behavior of any primate, which is really fascinating. (/bio major here) So anyway, the theory is that for an extended space exploration or colonization mission, a crew of polyamorous women would be more stable than an all-male or mixed crew, especially if they were facing the stresses of cramped living and occasional danger. So you wouldn't necessarily even need aphro or something like that to encourage the women to get it on, if there's simply a lot of social reinforcement that says it's healthy and beneficial to have a lot of sex with a lot of partners. And characters could use a virtual reality holodeck to play out fantasy sex scenes.
Re: F/F space opera game
(Anonymous) 2012-12-25 08:02 am (UTC)(link)You could even have maybe occasional diplomatic missions where the characters are expected to have sex with female natives or whatever to show they come in peace or something like that.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-25 08:43 am (UTC)(link)There are plenty of DRs and memes where people can get a quick sex fix, so why not have a game where people can get some plot and worldbuilding to go with their porn?
I have a better idea, don't do this. We don't need a game like this. Just app at a regular sex game. City of Ariel would have people like you.

Re: F/F space opera game
(Anonymous) 2012-12-25 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)A) Want a sex-game: A plot & environment that's Space Opera with a primary idea of ladies getting together
or
B) An Average Game: A plot & environment that doesn't have sex as a key player, and instead simply has an all female cast. Sex would be welcome, but not a major player in the game (like in Amat where characters need to have sex to survive).
To be honest I like the second idea better? But it all depends on popular opinion/what the people who are starting the game want. In all honesty when I think of an ideal F/F game for me would be a focus on the plot (Sci-fi Space Opera) aspect and (since it's an all female cast) allow natural CR building work the F/F out for itself. I'd like to see all kinds of lady interaction ranging from deep trust and friendship to negative CR that frowns whenever they see each other in the hall. But I don't want sex to be discouraged by the idea that "Oh this isn't a sex game, stop having sex right now!" that seems to happen in some other games when people come across stuff they don't like. It's pretty tricky, but if everyone is nice (which is just me being extremely hopeful) I think it can work.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-25 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)My personal hope is not for a sex-game though. A sex positive game, absolutely (any imbecile crying about lesbian sex should get stomped out right away, as long as what they cried about had proper warnings), but not one that goes out of its way to give stuff for sex.
Definitely no "go to that planet and fuck the inhabitants".
A character seducing people, complete with sex, on a mission, Kirk style, would be absolutely one of the options that should not be discouraged, but it shouldn't be the main or only way.
Several reasons for this, main one that it gets boring quick. You'd have to variate, and that will lead to fetish planet of the month. Just no, let people have fetishes in their places (or the holodeck, or such)
My second hope is that it'd get plot. Proper plot. Generally episodic nature, but with an overarcing plot, Babylon 5 style.
Setting it on a space station instead of a spaceship might be a good idea, too. Have it at the border of several galactic empires, who all dislike each other, and that alone would give plots for a long time.
And there'd be fighter jet things that characters that have no special scifi ships in canon can ICly learn to pilot and then go out on missions alongside the grumpy, 'cougar' Tie Advanced pilots who are competing with the mecha-teenies.
My first PC game as a young girl was Tie Fighter, it probably showsRe: F/F space opera game

A space agency takes jobs to aid planets in need, mediate, and enforce peace between peoples. The ship on which the game takes place is charged with gathering a list of rare materials needed to save the star of one of the solar systems in their care. Every other month, the ship would land on a planet and explore the new setting to find the needed material. Each planet would have its own challenges, whether it's the environment, the people, or the need to solve an issue there before attaining the material.
In space and on the planets there could be an antagonistic company or pirate-like organization trying to steal the rare materials that they are trying to gather to save the star.
Most importantly, the female-only crew is just a company policy to prevent children from being born in the dangerous environment which will help the female relationships on the ship seem more organic and less forced.
The jam-jar aspect is explained that there were qualities within the character that the agency felt would help their mission. Due to the level of urgency of the mission, they can not return those who want to go back until the mission is complete. Those who drop disappear due to an error in the transporting system.

I bring this up because this issue killed Lovestruck, an all-male game. I'd really rather that this be discussed now than let transwank explode just before the game even opens. This game sounds amazing and I would rather it not die so easily.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-03 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)A few things about me:
-I would mod anonymously for the first few months. This is not because I am a big term wanker, but because I am somewhat worried about possible negative attention this might be getting.
-I am in Poland right now, making my timezone completely ass for most of you. I'd likely ask Voxaura (who offered above) for help, and maybe 1-2 more depending on how big it gets.
-I am sadly not the harshest application judge. This might be a problem, although I'm not sure about it.
I thought about having a google doc for me and possible co-mods to each go over apps, once an app gets approval from all of us that aren't on hiatus, they're in.
-I suck at pretty layouts. See this post. I'm terrible at them.
On the main issue that people are talking about
-I'd allow MtF characters (why wouldn't I?), as long as they are trans in canon. Futanari I would ban outright, and I won't buy explanations that posessing a woman once makes you trans or intersex.
-I'd discourage genderswapped male characters by putting a cap if we get too many. Genderswaps would require extra work. I very much hope that a possible flood of male characters will never even come up, though, because F/F game.
-I'd allow OCs. These will always be from the AU world, no jamjaring.
On the game
-I would probably go for a optimistic mood similar to the first Star Trek series or Babylon 5 (which is a big source of inspiration, I admit). Good endings are possible, although thousands or even millions may be threatened.
-Not a sex game, but OOCLY crying about other characters having sex would be strongly discouraged. If characters are stupid about having sex ICly, IC consequences are absolutely okay, though.
-I really think this should be an AU game, but if there really is big demand, I have a way for a jam-jary twist to put characters in there a different way. See way below.
-The main setting would be a space station, with about 100k women on board. Why only women?
Well, the station is located in a neutral zone between at least two human Space!Nations and a non-human one [for how it works, remember that space is 3D - you can easily have 6+ space empires all touch the neutral zone without it being forced]. One of the human nations has waged a horrific war against the non-human one, which is why the third one is offering this station as a neutral ground for peace talks, to prevent further wars.
Said alien race is not a race of rubber forehead aliens, but of insectoids, a mixture of Warhammer Tyranids, Starship Trooper Bugs, and Babylon 5 Shadows. The only fertile ones among them are queens, soldiers come in variants, while males pretty much only exist for mating and die within weeks without ever forming a true mind.
This species views humans from their point of view, as they do not think like humans and do not understand humans that well yet. They demanded the neutral space to be staffed only by women as a tactical ploy. Nuking a stattion with 100k bug queens would be a devastating blow to their race. And they think that human women = bug queen, for the most part.
From their point of view, their demand is equal to the equivalent of demanding the station to be staffed only by high-ranked politicans and military officers, which would make the destruction of the stations far more dangerous for the human side than if it was merely staffed by 'soldiers'.
This gives a strong IC reason for a female-only station. Not heeding this would create an intergalactic incident if the bugs spot it, which might cause said insectoid race to suspect treason, which might lead to war. And since the insects fight with relativistic objects, wars against them costs billions of lives. Why not just give them what they want?
[I noticed after typing this that this would give a rather strong impetus for transsexual characters to transistion if they haven't yet, especially if they fill important positions. I would still allow them regardless, likely due to a bureaucratic error, but such a character should know that they need to be very, very careful about it. I wouldn't give such characters trouble about this on purpose]
--------
The two human "space!nations".
One: A military dictatorship, Empire Style.
Two: A federation of goody-two-shoes dogooders.
The station belongs to One. Two had the war with the bugs, One smugly offered a neutral space.
The staff of the station is 99,9% from One, 0,05% from Two, and 0,05% from others (random nonhumans, including constructs, such as Glados). Since the staff is only women, they come from a variety of Imperial Spaceships and Stations. Many of them were moved because they were not good with authority, or were a thorn in the eyes of superiors, leading to the crew being more free spirited than most Imperial stations would be. This gives possible conflict with the home country, and allows lesser qualified/younger characters as well. Misfits work!
Characters would belong to various categories - food soldiers, pilots, science(&medical), diplomatic corps, engineering, stealth, or misc station workers, and have an education in this field before coming to the station. Characters can be rookies, but they should know SOMETHING that got them hired for. Since misfits often get moved to this stations, a character can be of that category and find work as a generic station worker who moves boxes or cleans.
The space station:
Located next to a planet, where a secret project is doiong archaeological research. The planet is mostly jungle, and provides most of the food in large automated farms.
The station has a small fleet of short-range (think X-Wings) and mid-range (think Millenium falcons) spaceships. The former can be away from the station for up to a week, the later up to three.
Plots:
As this is not a sex game, the plots would be mainly, well, plot focused.
The farms on the planet may run into weird trouble, some ancient relic may be causing trouble, a delegation from some alien/human nation may be visiting, and the like. All of these would be set up so that different characters can contribute. Fighting would not be the best and only solution for most of them.
No, ripping your shirt and going at it Kirk-style won't always work, either. Might work sometimes, though.Long term, the results of the plots will shape the overall diplomatic situation. There might even be a small war.
Or the station might be going independen-wait, we're not in Babylon 5Precursor civilizations or threats may also play a role.
------------
Characters are generally applied AU, have some sort of education in some imperial academy, and then get sent to the station for various reasons. How exactly your character gets to the station is one of the two samples, the other being a sample on a musebox or the like.
There are, obviously, alternatives to normal ways. Your character might be a young girl that pretended to be older than she is, got discovered in the training, raised a fuss, and managed to get assigned to the station. Or she might be an older mad scientist who got too Mengele even for the military dictatorship, and got demoted to this station.
Or maybe the character is a stowaway. Lots of reasons, but at the end, characters need something they do on the station to make their living, figuring out what this is would be the objective of the player.
------------
Powers, since everyone cares about that sadly:
Some sort of Force-like space magic would be there, usually used scientifically. It's mostly used for navigation, the bugs use it for intergalactic communication, but a character with abilities in canon can use it in different ways.
Overall, there is a power cap. You can be pretty much as impressive as Luke in Star Wars, but not much more. No, your Touhou girl cannot fight toe to toe with a battleship, nor can your Star Wars extended universe Jedi. They might be able to fight a mecha, though. Leia and Grahf might team up to take down a "Gundam", for example.
Pilots can control fighter jet things, but those are no canon gundams, not invulnerable, and are not SOTA.
This is a diplomatic station, after all. It's not equipped to win a war by itself.

Jamjar: As said, if there is a demand for characters to be not AU, this can be met. F/F is niche already, if AU makes it too niche, I'd be willing to compromise.
The compromise would be the jungle planet. In there, scientists discovered ancient ruins. These, in turn, had a dimensional portal. It's one-way only, and sometimes spits confused people out. These people get quarantined, aand then sorted to see if they can do something useful.
If yes, they might be sent to the station, to work there, after about half a year of training/quarantine/questioning/profiling.
This means that thecharacter has been in the world at least half a year and knows the basics, ensuring that the number of "what is this!?!?!??!" posts are cut low. The character can contribute at least something.
What exactly, how she convinced the military to not put her down or imprison her, would be the player's job, similar to regular characters.
Powers would be capped. Stronger characters find their powers weakened just like AUs. Sorry, Balthasar, your fancypantsy angel powers don't work as well here.
Yay or nay? I mostly thought to step up since nobody else seems to want to try for the main mod hat, and while I don't really like the position that much, I think the overall idea has too much promise to just let it go to waste.
FAIL. Now that's a good start, lol.
