[D] Reading an actual book

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Re: F/F space opera game

Guys, if the general consensus is for the game to not be a sex game, then why does it matter who's packing what under their clothes?

If pregnancy is such an issue, then why not just ban pregnancy altogether and put it in the rules that any attempt at making a pregnancy happen in-game will result in an automatic banning? Why can't we assume birth control exists in the setting? Heck, why are we even assuming that every single woman in the game, trans or not, only want nothing more than to toss off their pants and hop into bed together instead of, y'know, doing their jobs? If, based on the discussion I've seen so far, the agency they work for have strict policies against sex in fear of pregnancies, then I imagine the characters would be unlikely to have sex unless they honestly wish to risk getting in trouble with their superiors for any reason. Yes, I know it's supposed to be a f/f game, but if the space agency the characters work for don't want pregnancies, then it's reasonable to assume that they would frown upon their employees having sex if there's a risk that one of the women would get pregnant.

If we're going to follow the logic of "the point of the game is to have only vaginas!", then why not allow FtM characters who have not transitioned yet into the game? I mean, they too have vaginas instead of penises and that's all that matters! /sarcasm

If it's just to keep out players who will be offensive as fuck, then why not just require potential appers who wish to play trans* characters in the game to demonstrate their understanding on the topic and how they will be handling any possible issues in-game? Is it that hard to just reject those who have proven in their apps that they barely know shit about trans* people? In the event that someone who is offensive as fuck does get in, then why not ban them from the game when they start doing transphobic shit? Mods are there for a reason.

Also, speaking of transgender issues, if the society in the game's setting is so perfect for transpeople, as it seems people are arguing, then why are people worried how players will ICly handle pre-op transwomen in the game? If it's because of the fear that they might only want to play out a fetish, then why, as I mentioned earlier, not keep them out through the application process and/or just boot them out of the game? Also, not every person who wishes to play a transperson wants to apply offensive fetishes such as futa or "OMG WHAT A SMEXY TRAP" into their roleplaying. Not to say that there aren't people who want play trans* characters just to play out that sort of shit, but guess what? Chances are, there are people who would rather walk on an endless trail of Legos for all of eternity than play out those sort of things. It's a broad thing to assume that every single person who wishes to play out a trans* character is only interested in their own fetishes.

Another thing that I've been meaning to ask is how the hell would technology become so perfect in the setting? I can accept that, in a sci-fi setting, that technology would definitely have improved, but it it doesn't mean it has become perfect. Science is not magic. Technology always had, and will always have, flaws and limitations. Even if we fix the flaws and limitations that technology does have, there will always be room for more to appear. So even if transitioning and getting sex change has improved in the setting with the help compared to Earth today, there are still going to be limits and problems to consider. What those are, I'm not even going to try to go into since that's just opening a new can of worms.

This is my first time looking through this thread and I see this hot mess. Look, I don't even care if you guys choose in the end to make it required for MtF characters to go through a sex change or not. This is not going to affect me because I don't even have any transwomen I'd want to play right now, and if I did? I can live. It's just that some of these arguments that are for making the sex change required are mind boggling to me. If anyone would like to answer what I put in this post, please, go ahead. I would really like someone to clarify all this for me since I apparently seem to be missing something here.
