rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

yeah im nosy as hell and skim the faq frequently and their answers are sometimes p vague but it seems clear there's a slow metaplot building. im one of the players enjoying the ride though!

long shot probably! but i recently got back into bg3 and i remember some anons talking about some kinda group rp with dnd elements. at the time there seemed to be a few interested parties, but did anything ever happen with that/is that still a thing? or does anyone know if there's anyone who runs dnd on discord or something and might be looking for players

I do want to play with you and your friends but you're playing from the newest fandom. I don't trust any of you not to drop within a month once it's lost its shine

found someone using my icons i explicitly stated not to use on my journal (i’m talking down to even the upload order), so i dm’d them and they changed quietly. cool. awesome. great. thank you, genuinely!

. . . but now i’m paranoid the icons they changed to are also stolen, but hey, i guess it’s not my problem anymore lol.

Does anyone else waffle between knowing what their character would do with a key decision in a thread? If there's two options both one might be slightly more IC or one might be rushing something that could be better as a slow burn? How do you usually decide?

I've tried going with what I think is the best or the most fun but sometimes that ends up being a poor choice for the actual thread. Usually I find out the other person was really expecting the other option and I zigged when I should have zagged.

i'd talk to the other person in the thread and ask them how it would go with either choice and what they're thinking of aiming for in terms of the cr, then go from there. sometimes it can lead to even better and more fun ideas too.

I go with my gut and roll with whatever happens next. I try not to plan out things in advance.

i've zigged into a slowburn or "the more IC but less collaborative choice" too many times when it turned out the other person wanted me to zag, and then they thought i was snubbing them or whatever for not mind-reading (???), so i'd suggest talking to the other person if it really is a pivotal CR moment

if it's just a meme, always go with the fun immediate gratification option unless you're already in communication

would definitely be a good time to poke the other player and see where their prefs lie. doesn't have to be a big thing, even just a little pm to the journal is fine. "hey so i've been thinking about this tag and i actually think it could go either a or b. can't decide which! any thoughts on what sounds more fun for us?" etc etc

if you really don't mind either option yourself, it's gonna be a win/win to find out what jives with your partner. no need to play guessing games if you really don't need to.

well, at least they actually changed them when you asked lol. sometimes people just completely ignore any requests like that and make things way more awkward

if you concretely know that the icons they're now using instead come from yet another dnt source, you could maybe give the other source a heads-up on the potential snatching, for they themselves to handle as they see fit? only if you want another ball of wax, tho. since yeah at least you're done and dusted ig

well if you did ask and they really are fine either way then at least they shouldn't be fussed about what they get, and you're now absolved of all responsibility if they do ghost on your pick anyway

this is why i personally have no patience with "idk let's do whatever!!" people in rp these days, and lower my expectations threading w/them to zero. either they genuinely dont know what they want and will make you carry the thread's entire progression, or they do know what they want but refuse to actually say it and get huffy or abandon the thread when you fail to read their mind

hopefully things turn out better for you in this case but yeah it's now out of your hands. if it's a meme, def either swing for the icly-wobbly but fun and quickly-gratifying option. otherwise, either choose the one you personally vibe more with, or idk do a cointoss. then proceed and hope for the best

personally i also try and minimise how much i rp with these people because eventually you discover you're doing 90% of the work for 10% of the reward.

i had someone ask me if they could use my icons and when i said no they did it anyway. there's a lot of people who think commissioning icons or spending a lot of time making your own is stupid, and therefore they deserve to use them anyway because it's silly for people to not let them or something. i don't get the thought process.

saw someone use "cw: heights" for a tag once. the character was just up on the edge of a tall building, innocuously hanging out. no threat of them falling, no graphic description of vertigo or whatever. just mentioning that the character was more than two feet off the ground.

remember that person who claimed to be triggered by profanity, but was playing a really foulmouthed homestuck character?

when i say "idk let's do whatever" it's because what i want is for the other person to just tag the thread so we can play. i want it to play out organically instead of deciding how everything is going to go ahead of time. if i absolutely can't work with the tag you give me or it's a one-way ticket to seriously negative cr-ville then i'll let you know, but otherwise? just fucking tag and let's rp.
