he had a long, meandering letter to addressed to the pope posted to his personal journal. i read it once and it was about forgiving the devil. pretty standard religious stuff if not for the fact it was squashed in between "100 waifus I'd like to fuck" and his personal xanth books rank list. (if you don't know the xanth books they're the ones piers anthony got flack for bc of the eroticism of most, if not all, of the under aged female characters)

da

yeah for anyone who isn't aware about the xanth books, "underage" isn't like a 15 year old

it's a 5 year old

The Xanth books weren't where Anthony had the worst underage sex issues. His standalone novel Firefly was. Between the anal rape scene and the CSA court case where the judge basically said 'because the five year old initiated it, this is fine'...Anthony was really fucked up, and anyone who's still a fan of his work in TYOOL 2025 ought to be shunned.

nayrt but as someone who does enjoy fucked up content, that book is what made me stop reading Piers Anthony. it was just a realization of “oh it sounds like you actually believe this” because it’s not just the judge letting him off. his defense was something along the lines of “she approached him for sex and they love each other, so it’s not rape because that’s the bad sex her sexual abuser had with her. also by separating them you’re causing more harm to her because she needs her lover to fix her” in the courtroom which moved everyone in there.

this also came after i finished another series where the last book had a character that was a judge who liked teenage girls but it was ok because he only looked and didn’t try to have sex with them. he ended up falling in love with a with a teenage prostitute and they got together in the end because the teenager ended up in one of those “a day inside is a year outside” places. which meant at the end of the book she was legally an adult despite still a teenager, and it was treated as a reward for the judge for helping the main characters out.

xanth books weren’t as bad which is why i didn’t really think too much of it when that was the only series i read from him, but in hindsight after my realization, it was weird. no one ever has sex with a underage character but there is a lot of adult women expressing interest in little boys and waiting for them to grow up.

my first introduction to piers was the mode series. a teenage girl who self harms and is oversexualized after a gang rape. they travel through universes and she winds up married to an adult via proxy. but firefly was housed in the area i used to go to read dean koontz, that horror genre that they'd fit him into. i really wish i'd missed that book, because that scene with the girl really turned my stomach. and i got into xanth when a girl i knew who was a bit older than me let me stay with her and she just so happened to be a csa survivor who'd wound up with a boyfriend who'd found a harddrive with porn of her on it as a child with her uncle, so... i'm not surprised she was into it.

as an adult now, it makes me sad. as a teenager, i didn't really understand it all, but i got that it was fucked up and i wound up distancing myself from her. piers anthony is tainted for me, and it's all about his writing and the fascination he has with sexual exploitation of minors and how it's all 'okay' in his books.

at least other authors that have child/underage sex shit know that it's fucked up and don't excuse it. dean koontz has a weird incest/mother thing that crops up in a lot of his writings. stephen king's whole coke-fantasy and all the things he wrote, like dolores claiborne and the gangbang from it, he at least writes it like it's a terrible thing. piers just glorifies it.

That series with the judge you mentioned is the Incarnations of Immortality. Now, if you go to Killobyte or certain books in his GEOdyssey series, you also can see he has a piss kink. Specifically, he's into men watching women and girls urinate.

Which is a fucking shame, because Killobyte was one of the first instances I came across of disability rep in sci-fi, with both a wheelchair user and a type one diabetic for main characters.

In short, I am shaking your hand, as someone who went through the same thing.

I read a lot of anthony when I was 12 because whenever I read him going "see it's okay because-" I didn't have critical thinking skills and went um, I guess so?

in the modes books the tween protagonist, on her quest to find a state where she could legally marry an adult man, reflects on being assaulted by a friend's father when she was a toddler and gave her toys and how she knew she should feel bad but, actually, she liked it. and the interdimensional character she talked to said her dimension put shame into beautiful things and "in my dimension, fathers often play such games with their daughters".

it took reading the xanth book where the muse cleo's backstory was shown in flashback and she was cursed as a baby to be ugly but would "find her curves", and was an ugly knobbly youth who did in fact find a pun-based thing that made her hot and voluptuous, and then at the end of the flashback the book was like btw, she was four years old!!! for me to go wait. wait. no. it's not okay. none of this is okay. no more of this.
