ayrt and yeah, if you're good at the character nobody cares

reading everything isn't an expectation at all, it's more that people with comics faves tend to do that on their own out of MY BLORBO mindset. in c&c in particular it created kind of a unique atmosphere because a lot of people went to comic cons and so on, and socially it felt like a really big single-canon game that also allowed other canons, if that makes sense, where we'd all yap about new developments and experiences at cons and vintage finds and stuff like that

i don't play from comics anymore but i miss that aspect of it and haven't really found anything akin to it (in dwrp) since

i played from comics in c&c and didn't have this experience... good to know what i was missing out on by not being part of the popular kids circle

i'm not bitter, i'm just sad about it. i loved the game but i had no idea there was something like this happening for some people. finding out now has bummed me out a little that's all.

were you playing from an indie/generally smaller comic, or from 616/major dc shit with a big cast? bc the latter is where a lot of that stuff happened.

this might possibly out me to someone with godlike memory but i played a relatively minor batman antagonist for a while and some people in the cast and i had a lot of jokes about the noncanonical mini where he wore a velvet robe over full body bandaging for absolutely no reason. or the joker having magical bird powers thing. shit like that

it was less a party you weren't invited to and more like "man, anybody remember that happening? that was so fucking stupid" that you can only really get when everybody shares the same incredibly stupid canon material, but has enough to deep dive into different parts

can't imagine why you wouldn't be popular

it was a huge game, sometimes it felt like walking into a party where everyone already knew each other.

tbf i was also there in its heyday and yeah, that was an aspect but it wasn't really a malicious one so much as a "these people are all heavily entrenched in the same comics/canons and don't have as much to talk about with you if you aren't". they went to comic conventions together irl, they played from the same canons, they were in thespiderswalk together (the other comics game that didn't last nearly as long) etc. i wasn't in the inner circles either but you couldn't really take it personally

it also didn't help that some of those people would get absolutely mobbed whenever they'd make open posts and limited those in response for their own sake. i remember at least a couple of chars, back at c&c peak, would have network posts go into multiple pages. that's at least fifty individual threads with different people to juggle on top of keeping up with the five to ten plus network posts and open logs that went up every day

dwrp at its peak was an absolute beast and we all only managed by being neet no-lifers or college kids with relatively few time constraints

da but man it's always so wild to me to see people say this, college was when i was the most busy i've ever been so i've always been kind of sad that I missed out on the peak dwrp era as a result.

envious of all of you who had loads of free time in college because it's the exact opposite for me lol

weirdly enough one of the most reliable taggers back then (not lightning fast, but really steady) was a graduate student in some kind of neuro med field. which is insane to me

but honestly i wouldn't be too torn up for missing out, that was also peak wank era for similar reasons. really was a best of times worst of times situation
