you are telling me. going to the wiki and seeing so many images unlinked...broke my damn heart. then them making us pay Premium Currency to access past events, even if we already played through them...

it could always be worse. just dropped a gacha for being pretty much purely ai art/ai prompts. i'm gritting my teeth like 'shit at least nori the card artist seems to be living their best life'

Tokyo Debunker.

once a friend pointed out that unlike every other gacha, not even their cards are copyrighted, and why don't they have character merch en masse despite being so popular right now...i couldn't stomach that shit anymore i will NOT lie. like the ai backgrounds are blatant but when i realised even the characters i thought were derivative but fun were just. spat out by some ai, and some of the warding card art was ai, it's like

why even bother, man. i know gachas inherently suck but at least i could justify supporting actual artists for the slop!!

those characters didn't strike me as inherently more derivative than any other gacha characters, too. yikes and/or lol

da but i struggled the same way with tokyo debunker. like i tried it, enjoyed the stories even if the gameplay was kinda all over the place, but when i realized the bgs were ai i struggled to continue because i know a few bg-only artists and it was too much for me for that. Finding out later that they started changing more things to ai was not unexpected but still sad.

It made me wonder if even the stories were ai-generated or even the character designs, though at least it seemed like the cards and some monsters were actual people behind them. I was bummed because I thought the voice acting was excellent too.

yeah, my stupid ass didn't realise the bgs were ai until i was already hooked otherwise. but i thought 'well at least maybe they're paying artists for the cards, right??? and they have writers and artists otherwise, right???'

this abomination was the beginning of the end for me, though. my friend who pointed out the lack of copyright notice at the bottom of their cards in general (and how ai laws in japan would prevent them from copyrighting characters they didn't even create but instead got shat out from ai prompting) also pointed out how MUCH of the art was ai...and i was just like

yeah okay that's. that's it. i can't sit here and ignore the obvious for My Blorbos anymore, this is gross. nier re[in]carnation eos'd but this shit is popping off? no thanks.

I dropped it fairly early when I noticed it on the homescreen gate (the shadows of the cat on the gate doesn't match the ground) and after that I couldn't stop noticing it and had to give it up because just playing it made me feel like I was betraying my friends who work hard to make their art and made me uncomfortable.

It really is tragic how this is popping off while other canons keep dying out, but I guess when your overhead is low because you just autogenerate it, it's no surprise.

yeah...i can't believe i didn't notice how goddamn egregious the ai backgrounds were. but i am not very clever at all, so like, it tracks for me lmao. but once the benefit of the doubt's worn off it's pretty clear that tokyo debunker is really just soulless. which sucks, because the narrative at least had me eager to learn the answers to questions, but all that is NOT worth the rot on my soul to play ai slop.

it really is miserable that so many genuine artistic endeavours struggle to stay afloat, but here's this churned out muck that's got a huge fandom that doesn't seem to speak up at ALL about it (from the artists i've still got on my twitter, anyway). absolutely fucking soul crushing, tbh

TO BE FAIR I was doubting it at first because I thought okay, maybe I'm wrong and it's just poor editing skills because I have seen people accuse actual artists of being AI because the shadows weren't perfect. It really isn't worth the soul rot.

Oh that's too bad. I feel this isn't a surprise because people can and will try to excuse things they enjoy, but don't realize how it encourages more content to be like this in the future.

da and wait, seriously? i thought a lot of the art i saw was pretty low-quality but i assumed they were just cheaping out on the art and cutting corners... knowing they're actually using ai is a great big yikes.

that's a huge shame when some gacha that had genuinely gorgeous art made by real artists (yumekuro, akuaya, ransute) ended up shutting down. they deserved the popularity, not this ai garbage.

i mean a lot of the generic card art is kind of lacklustre, but i figured it was just style, they're still an up-and-coming studio, etc
but the warding cards are where it shines through as ai. especially some of the newer cards are just...weird. like they also collaborate with actual artists, but given some of the details, i have to wonder how much is even artist-done and how much is ai on that front too.

the lack of copyright notice down the bottom is what sealed the deal on how much of it's ai, though. like every modern Big Gacha seems to have the little copyright thing down the bottom of the art. but zigzagames can't because they don't even own their own characters, it's ai slop! goddamn! the cheek in this day and fucking age!

yeah, see, i thought the art was just mid because they were a small studio that didn't have the budget to pay for highly-detailed stuff like some of the bigger games have, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself since i'm all for small studios shooting their shot with making games! but i'm looking at a bunch of the cards now and you're right, i'm seeing a ton of really blatant ai tells in them.

tamayura from yumekuro/dream meister and the recollected black fairy! it was a cute little otome rpg that sadly eosed at the end of last year. i didn't wind up playing it for too long since otome stuff really isn't my jam but the art was absolutely beautiful and the gameplay was pretty fun for what it was.

oh my god tamayura looks like he's what zenji kotodama wishes he could be...why is this the first i'm hearing of this gacha, i am so sad...that card's STUNNING.

right? you probably didn't hear of it because it never got an english release (and i don't know if it ever got any fan translations since i speak jp so i just play games without needing translations), but like i said, even though otome isn't personally my thing, i had been hoping it would do well just because the art was so lovely and the characters were cute from what little i played. it's really too bad.
