Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

so, on tumblr, games generally work like this: the mod/s come up with an original scenario (prison, 1950s spy agency, tribe of elves, superhero team, general apartment block full of supernaturals, whatever), and everybody makes new OCs to fit that setting when they apply

would that sort of OC only game get any traction on DW? why or why not?

That's the way most OC games work. It wouldn't be particularly popular in this sphere of DWRP because it's been fandom centered for a while, but there's no inherent flaw with using DW for a different kind of rp game.

it'd be a bit of an uphill climb if you advertise it only here, since yeah most of this side of dwrp is about the decent panfandom that you won't get in most other places

but like an above anon said, there's nothing forbidden about an oc game being hosted on dreamwidth in general. you just might have to dig around for a more amenable crowd, or settle for the game being a very niche thing here

Honestly, as someone who loves to play OCs and has a good number of friends who also do but find it difficult to do in DWRP, I don't think this would necessarily be as niche or unpopular as others are saying.

I think there are a lot of OC players (or people who like to play both OC and panfandom but only do the panfandom aspect here) who might come out of the woodwork if the premise was interesting enough. One of the reasons Fade Rift has stuck around for such a long time is because it lends itself so very well to creating OCs in a way no other game on the site does (though it isn't OC-only and it also has the benefit of being in a very popular existing fandom setting, so it's definitely not exactly the same.)

I feel like the traction here might depend more on whether the setting filled an interesting niche people are looking for/not sick of, rather than whether it was an OC game, but that's just me personally.

this type of thing is popular on ij, where there's less canon play. I think if someone made a game like this, it would help to advertise it on ij as well
